IMHO the '04 version of SLC was much better than '02. The only clear superiority of '02 was (by a fairly good margin) the kicking game. Remember Luna started as a sophomore in '02 - was a pretty nifty back, but not near where he was as a senior. Same for Daniel - started as a slot receiver as a soph. -- decent, but not a real threat. Daniel was a much more dangerous qb than Wasson - though both were great. I felt LP was fortunate to have scored 30 against the '04 SLC D -- the '02 Pack should have scored 44 against SLC - but were shut out over the last 1.5 quarters (largely by self-implosion) and were held to 30.
The matchup I think most want to see is '03 GP NorthShore against '04 SLC - have that winner play the Midland Lee team from '99 or '00 - which ever was the better year.

01 Lufkin vs 02 SLC (reggie mcneil vs Chase Wasson)
01 Austin Westlake vs 04 SLC (these teams were built very similar and played the same way for all season except for one half of the Lufkin state championship, this team deserves alot more credit then it gets)
03 North Shore vs any high school football team ever (straight up)
03 Leander vs 03 Allen...again (i'd like to have some form of a home and home series with them. This game was fun to watch and i'd like to see what both teams could bring to the table year in and year out)

For me...it would have to be..
The 1927 11-0 Longview Lobos...Had only 2 points scored on them all season Againist the 1937 14-0 State Champion Longview Lobos
Had Longview been a Class A school in '27 I definately think we wouldve won State.
Also would have loved to see the 1975 13-1 Lobos againist the 1997 14-1 Lobos. Thatd be something to see for any Lobo fan.

Yeah it would have been intresting to see them take on some out of state competion. Seeing as no one in Texas could even come close to truely giving them any competition maybe someone from anothe rstate might have been able to.
03' North Shore Offense vs. 03' North Shore Deffense.
I know a lot of NS fans have wondered how that oen might turn out. How would the stingy Mustang D handle the potent Mustang O? As much as I loved the offense I have to say I think that D was the one unit that could have shut that offense down.

It's funny you mention Westlake - because they were a formidable foe and were extremely similar to the '02 SLC team that nipped Lufkin - keeping the Pack from repeating.
Lufkin's '02 team was pretty salty - not quite as good defensively as '01, but pretty potent on O. The bottom line, however, is there was absolutely no D in the nation that could stop Reggie once they got a bit winded. Reggie's 4th qtr. against Westlake was simply the best offensive performance I've ever seen at the hs level - if that game had gone 2 more minutes - he would have scored a couple of more times. Take that effort away (ala Lufkin '02) -- and the Westlake game certainly goes down to the wire - just like the '02 SLC game.

not that in any way was reggie all by himself on that state champ team, but he was one of the rare players who could put a team on his shoulders and will away a likely loss. he had several games like the one you described. no team can replace such a talent, and the year after his graduation, it takes a great coaching effort to get the returnees to take the stick and fly. coach outlaw has shown his greatness by bringing the pack to the top again and again.

Nice tournament! That Yates vs. Permian was the one I was going to throw out there. I think Yates takes it barely. That Mojo team was the one that outscored their opponents 620-97 so it would have been close.

I think it would be a toss up. Both sides of the ball had it all. Size, power, speed coupled with experience, wanting to prove something to complete their "unfinished business".
I never saw them scrimmage - but I will bet they were competitive.

4 DRBs,3 Captain's masts, and several alcohol related incidents later.......
I still made E-5 in less than 4 years...and quickly lost it...along with E-4....and somehow made that back....but never got my second chevron back. Believe it or not I was a pretty squared away sailor. That saved my butt plenty of times. I wasn't a dirtbag...I had outstanding evals...and PT scores....I just had a bit of trouble keeping my big trap shut at times...and the beer only made that worse. I used to joke with the E-2s and E-3s in my office....and tell them "I can make 2nd class twice, before you can even make it once." hahaha
So to sum it up ...yeah...I spoke to the Command Master Chief a few times....we go way back. lol

We got to the Ouzo as quick as we could....I guess we've hijacked this thread...I guess a good unrealistic game for us up here would be Carroll vs. Judson or Northshore or maybe the Woodlands...somebody that we don't see because of the D-1 D-2 thing...

Ouzo is a Greek Liquor...it supposedly has some type of opiate in it...I don't know..a lot of guys got pretty silly on it...When your a sailor, you get pretty bored on a ship & tend to cut up a bit on liberty...I usually liked to do the tours & see the sights, but occasionally had to run with the dogs...& howl at the moon...

Clemens came back and beat SV in the 2003 playoffs. Clemens sqeaked a win out but if I remeber correctly, they would have smashed SV if they did not have so many damn turnovers.
Clemens was great that year. SV was great last year. I would like to see that game.
