that kid was pretty quick
he ran the 400 and the 4x400
of course i was against him in the 4x4 since they had to get 7th or 8th for us to win

another amazing thing is that our all district defensive end anchored the 4x100 relay that qualified for regionals and he's sitting at 230 pounds

Tell me more about AMC's 2006 football team since we face off in non-District play. You don't have to go into the details like..the QB benches 400lbs...just who's returning and who do you think will step up this season. Times in the 40 are O.K.
Thanx in advance.

O line is where it gets interesting this year to me (especially as dad to an O-liner)...

Two returning starters at guard, lots of strength and quickness in those two. one of them set an all-time Consol record time in the shuttle run for the 240-275 lb weight class, squats 485, benches somewhere around 300. both are around 6'0" - 6'1" and weigh in around 250 or so.

one 08 senior to be that got limited playing time last season, but is someone I expect big things from. Big kid, 6-3 or so, 275? I'm not sure if he'll be center or tackle.

We'll need to see two of the 08 juniors to be step up. I think I know who they'll be. The coaches have a way of always putting together a great O-line. So, no worries.

D-line looks strong, 4 quality linebackers. several 08 juniors to be that can play DB and hit with a passion. They'll contend for starting jobs.

Szymanski is just a great athlete.

a&m consolidated1,

Your points on the A&M Consolidated players are well-taken. I verified the time for Hanks. It is my understanding, each athlete ran 3 times and one of his runs was a 4.7 as he slipped on takeoff; however, his best time was 4.59. It should be noted these times are on a track with track shoes. Also, there was a strong wind blowing on the day of 40 testing and they ran with the wind. He also ran a 8.04 40 yard shuttle (school record for his weight class and beat Detron Lewis in head-to-head competition in this event) which wouldn't translate from 4.79 type speed. Hanks 40 time at the start of offseason was 4.61 and I would assume he would become faster, not slower with Coach Huff's offseason program. He is also the District 13-AAAAA powerlifting champion (198 pound division) and has a standing broadjump of 9' 6". After spring testing, Hanks won the #1 overall athlete in the A&M Consol football offseason program and he wouldn't achieved this ranking running a 4.79.

As mentioned by A&M Consolidated1 above, some key A&M Consolidated players for the fall: Parish, Dudley, Syzmanski, Lewis, and Palmer, and Carter are very special athletes that will lead this team on the field.

LB Parish (6-1, 218) has scholarship offers from BIG XII schools and will most likely have double-digit offers after Spring training. His closing speed is exceptional and he has that "pop" when he makes contact...great kid on and off the field. He missed making the regional powerlifting meet by 5 pounds and yet he can dunk a basketball. He throws the shot-put and runs sprints on a very competitive track team. Athletic enought to play DE, LB, or Safety. 1st Team All-District as a Junior .

LB Dudley (6-2, 221) has offers from BIG XII schools (and other D-1 programs) and is getting better each day. Extremely strong and fast. Dudley is an outstanding student and competed very well in powerlifting while improving his quickness and speed in the offseason program. Bench is 355, squats 490 pounds and has 4.54 speed. He also is a leader on and off the field. He graduated from a competitive leadership program sponsored by the Bryan/Collge Station Chamber of Commerce this Spring and has several academic honors. 1st Team All-District as a junior.

WR Detron Lewis (6-1. 195) is fast, outstanding leaper, and great hands; his best attribute is his body control catching a ball in traffic as demonstrated by KT2000 photo above. Lewis is a tremendous track athlete and was A&M Consolidated's basketball MVP. Great kid on and off the field and is a competitor in every sense of the word. He has "it" ; he will play on Saturdays in a BCS conference. Plays 7-on-7. All-State Honorable Mention and 1st Team All-District as a junior.

Daniel Palmer (5-11, 200) is fast, has great vision, and can cut on a dime. He is very powerful for a back his size. Palmer has explosive acceleration and can take it to the house on any play. He can run up the middle in traffic or run in space on the outside. Outstanding track athlete and is a kid that could play DB at the next level too. He is an exciting player to watch as he often amazes you with his moves and power. 1st Team All-District as a Soph.

Matt Szymanski (6-1, 195) is the best kicker in the country. He has scholarship offers from all over the country (Oklahoma, Tennessee, etc.) is currently committed to Texas A&M. He nailed a 61 yard FG v. Euless Trinity (without a tee) in the State Semi-Final game and was 4 for 4 in FGs at Texas Stadium v. Richardson Berkner in the Regional Championship game. He gives A&M Consolidated a legit shot to score anytime the offense reaches midfield. He is a very good 400M track guy. Rarely are his kickoffs returned as they tend to go deep into the end-zone. If he wasn't such an outstanding kicker, he could be a very good safety. All-State and 1st Team All-District as a Junior.

Caleb Carter (6-0, 190) is a fast athlete with great hands. He can play either safety or WR. He is a tremendous all-around athlete. Tranferred from Hearne during junior high and I even have some video of him playing Pee-Wee football at Hearne and he has always been a play-maker. He made the big catch versus Harker Heights to win the game with less than a minute. He is best suited to play safety or wide receiver, but could step on the field wherever he is needed. He is only only beginning rearch his potential.

There are 12-15 more seniors on this team that are very good 5A players and will contribute to this football team's success in '06...several not mentioned here will have the opportunity to play on Saturdays.

There are several outstanding underclassmen (Class '08) worthy of mention on the A&M Consolidated football team: OL Matt Fitzpatrick, OL/DL Jordan Dalton, QB/Ath Domanic Preston, DB Brandon Groff, Ath Marshall Cashion, and DB Spencer Sprague). Fitzpatrick was the only sophomore on the varsity last season and was a starter. Outside of Fitzpatrick, these sophomores were key players on the JV district championship team.

A&M Consolidated players have outstanding chemistry among themselves and with the coaching staff...it is an enviroment of trust and respect. The coaching staff has remained in tact from last year's State semi-finalist finish and the A&M Consol players respond to their coaches with hard work and buy-in to the program. The Head Coach, Jim Slaughter, was recently inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor.

Other trivia....4 sets of brothers on the A&M Consolidated football team: Jackson (Cleavon and Curtis), Hanks (Clayton and Cole), Cashion (Mason and Marshall), and Sprague (Gable and Spencer). The seniors that DID NOT play varsity as sophomores have a 70-2-1 record since 7th grade in "district and playoff" games. These seniors were undefeated in district games(both "A" team and "B" team) during their freshman and JV seaons. In junior high, (College Station has two junior highs), not counting the game played against each other, the kids on the "A" team were undefeated against outside foes in both their 7th grade and 8th grade years. When the College Station junior highs played each other...one junior high won the 7th grade game 20-7 and the next year in 8th grade, the other junior high won by an identical score of 20-7. The only district loss for these kids since 7th grade was a 21-14 loss to Copperas Cove last fall. The other loss was a 28-6 loss to Euless Trinity in the State Playoff Semi-Finals.

I agree Detron is without a doubt the best football player and the overall best athletic performer at A&M Consolidated...he is a major D-1 prospect in football, basketball, and track. Lewis is the best overall high school athlete that I've seen in person since Palestine's Ivory Lee Brown (Adrian Peterson's uncle) circa 1986. Brown was a all-state RB, basketball player, and ran track. I first threw a football to Detron when he was in 5th grade and I knew then he had "it" as he caught the ball with such natural ease. CJ Parish is not far behind Lewis...a powerlifter, shot-putter, and a sprinter on the track team...on top of that, the guy can also dunk a basketball. Both have that "fluid" athletic movement. Palmer is in the same athletic mode as Lewis and Parish. I watched Palmer carry the ball as a 6th grader in pee-wee football and knew he had "it" when it came to playing football. Palmer has tested as fast as 4.41 in the 40 at a Nike Camp held in Houston last summer. Without a doubt, you're on a team with some very gifted athletes (several not mentioned here) and I'm sure you're one of them. The A&M sophomore class has some great talent (Derrick Lewis and others) coming up too. I spoke with the dad of an incoming freshman this morning and he told me that the freshman class is exciting to watch too. It is a great time to be part of the A&M Consolidated football program.

A&M Consolidated measures its athletes and there is a TOP 10 ranking. I've been told by a Tiger Club officer that points are given for offseason testing in such areas as the 40, 80-yard shuttle, pull-ups, standing broadjump, bench, squat, clean , etc. The Top 10 overall football offseason performers are recognized by Coach Slaughter and the coaching staff. Coach Huff does an outstanding job of getting the A&M Consolidated football players in top physical condition and athletic condition.

i agree, i see derrick lewis also contributing to our team this year as a coming up year as a sophmore, in the freshman division of the 100 meter dash he broke our school freshman 100 meter record that was held by current runningback j.j. mcmurry, note that he and detron lewis are both cousins

Detron is the game breaker.......was the worst feeling when Waco was up 25-10 with 6 minutes left? Two big plays by him and Consol pulled out the win. That game was our season right there.......

Almost felt as bad as the Waco loss to John-Tyler in OT during the 2000 quarterfinals. Almost....

I was at that Waco/consol game shooting the massive number of pictures I shoot. I was standing near the end zone when waco scored their 25th point. Next to me was an old Consol LB from many years ago. I just looked at him and said, Bud, we're going to win. He just stared at me like I was smoking crack. "you think so?" "yep, they're going to let up thinking it's in the bag."

While those two lewis passes were crucial to the win, the onside kick recovery by Clayton Hanks made the victory possible. No onside kick recovery, Waco runs precious seconds off that clock that we never get back. That was an outstanding game.

Waco is going to rip the hell out of 4A this year. I predict they go deep into the playoffs, surpassing Cove in the process.

Waco's route in the 4-A playoffs is going to be much easier than Cove's. And, I hope you are right....

If we get past Ennis/Corsicana in the 1st round......we should have a very good run.

Cove is going to be facing Waxahachie/Arlington Seguin, Highland Park, Texas High, Stephenville in D-1.
