It looks like you are correct, FSN will cover it. Doesnt specify regional or nationwide however.

Nice idea, but, regrettably, not sure the game will be competitive. DR has only six starters back (3/3), and, no one to take Willis' place. Having said that, Coach Florence always seems to find a way (and, there are two more Lokeys on the team this year).

From what I remember it wasn't competitive last year either.

Interesting....wondering why they're televising it. There's plenty of better games than that to televise.

i understand the contract, but why televise a complete blowout?? even when DR had their players last season, it was still a blowout...this year will only be worse with DR only returning 6 starters on offense and defense................

Denton Ryan only lost 2 games last year....to Carroll....they are the ones that took out Irving MacArthur in the playoffs....check their overall record before you dis them...you would be looking up at them in the win column...

DR.......I think you'll find most Dragon fans on this board have a ton of respect for your team, Coach Florence and his staff. Wish you all could figure a way to stay 5A in the next realignment.......We love the rivalry!!

Good Luck this season (except against us of course)...... :)

dgnbkr---i think you have seen my many posts over the years on this website and would know me a little better than that to "take a shot"(as you said) at a great program like Denton Ryan....i was merely going on what i witnessed on national TV last season, plus with what other posters on many football websites are saying about the game....i do have a little more class than that--not much, but a little.....who knows?? DR just might kick the crap out of SLC...i don't think it's going to happen, but it's possible....don't insinuate something from my post that really wasn't the case.....having nothing but respect for DR just like i always have(even many years while they were still in 4A).................................

DR certainly learned from the ESPN game last year. The regional championship game in December was much more competitive and the score would have reflected that fact except that SLC's underrated defense in the red zone was just too tough (how many times did Willis get stopped on fourth down)? Interestingly, DR fared better statistically against SLC in most categories - points allowed, yards gained, yards allowed -than did Abilene, Lufkin, or SV. For example, I thought SLC dominated Lufkin - a few big plays made the score closer than the game really was.

Willis of course was the key last year for DR. Having seen the DR spring game, it's fair to say that the two quarterback candidates (Timney and Knight) aren't close yet to Willis' level of play. When you throw in the fact the entire offensive line is new, one has to expect struggles early on (v. HP, Lincoln, etc.). The team should get better as the season progresses, and, at the end, be competing for a playoff spot.

the stats in the second game weren't as gaudy, mainly because joflo decided that they weren't going to win a shootout and so changed defensive schemes. they normally ran mostly man in press coverage, but in that game backed way off and allowed slc to turn into a drive it down your throat team. they forced daniel and luna to play smash mouth, and they did a great job of it. the slc defense was asked to make some big stops and they did time after time. they smothered willis and took away his open field threat by keeping him contained and not overextending themselves. i thought it was one of the most dominating games we played and it was made more satisfying because the showed they could play smashmouth if they had to.

BTW, a word of caution to all of the players - while the new Denton stadium is beautiful, the concrete stadium walls are a VERY SHORT/DANGEROUS distance from the playing field. Anyone running full speed toward the sidelines has to immediately slam on the brakes or a collision will occur with the wall - and we know who wins that battle. In my view, unless padding is added to the walls, it's just a matter of time until a serious injury occurs.

I noticed that last year, we are all used to the enormous sidelines at Dragon Stadium too. The sidelines at DS are bigger because its made for soccer too.

The Denton soccer community was not pleased with the fact the field is not large enough to play soccer. Not sure how that happened - one of the primary reaons for building the stadium was to generate revenue from playoff competition. One would think that would have included soccer games, but, apparently not. In any case, room for soccer or not, the walls are definitely too close to the field to safely play football.
