Ricky Williams' hearing had to be moved to an undisclosed location in New York to avoid reporters today.

Daunte Culpepper will meet with Dr. James Andrews for a status check on his knee later this week.
Culpepper met with the Miami media for the first time Monday, but didn't say anything meaningful. The Dolphins still need to find a quarterback to run the team while Culpepper heals. Apr. 10

Jimmy Smith considered retirement this offseason.
Still getting it done at 37, Smith showed no difficulty getting open last season. He dropped plenty of passes, though, and figures to give up some production in 2006 to Jacksonville's younger wideouts. Apr. 10

Fred Taylor is not participating in the team's offseason training program.
The 30-year-old hired a private company to run his workouts and reportedly looks slimmer at 225 pounds. "I worked out with the team for eight years, and it might sound a little selfish, but now it's time for Fred to take care of Fred," Fred said. Apr. 11

The Patriots don't appear interested in bringing Doug Flutie back.

Kyle Vanden Bosch recently underwent shoulder surgery that will force him to miss the next two months.
The Titans hope he can participate in June minicamps, but getting him back for training camp is the goal. Vanden Bosch had a history of knee problems before joining the Titans. Antwan Odom could pick up camp snaps with the first team. Apr. 11

Coach Nick Saban testified on behalf of Ricky Williams Tuesday.
The coach has supported his back ever since Williams tested positive. No timetable has been set for a decision, but Williams' lawyer said he was "optimistic" about the impending outcome and had offered "compelling evidence" that would "undermine the integrity" of the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Colts safety Bob Sanders is recovering from a biceps injury that will keep him on the sideline until training camp.
Sanders, a Pro Bowler in his second season, has struggled with an assortment of injuries since he entered the league.

Marvin Harrison is still recovering from a wrist injury that could keep him out of summer minicamps.
He'll either return in June or by training camp. It's uncertain whether Harrison underwent surgery.

The agent for RB Willie Parker has inquired about a new contract for his client.
Parker will play for a $445,000 salary in 2006, then would be eligible for restricted free agency after the season. His agent Elbert Avery met with Steelers negotiator Omar Khan .

Daunte Culpepper - QB - Dolphins


ProFootballTalk.com hears QB Daunte Culpepper may miss most of 2006.
Rehabbing from knee surgery after tearing his ACL, PCL, and MCL last season, Culpepper initially felt he'd be ready for the start of the upcoming campaign. However, there have been recent reports he won't be able to play at all this year. The Dolphins have pursued Joey Harrington and Tommy Maddox as insurance policies and currently have only Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin, who's in NFL Europe, on the active roster.

Donnie Edwards - LB - Chargers


The Chargers are reportedly shopping LB Donnie Edwards.
It takes a lot to make Chargers fans mad, but this on top of Drew Brees would do it. Safety Hank Milligan and safety Sammy Davis are also reportedly on the trade market, which means they are all at risk to get cut after June 1st.

Richard Seymour - DL - Patriots


Richard Seymour and the Patriots have agreed on a contract extension.
Expect Seymour to be among the highest paid defensive players in football. The contract has been sent to league office for review, but may not be official until August because the league doesn't allow contracts to be re-done twice in a year and Seymour got a pay bump last August.

Rashaun Woods - WR - Chargers


Chargers acquired WR Rashaun Woods from the 49ers to CB Sammy Davis.
The disappointing 2004 first-round wideout barely made the 49ers roster in his second year before getting hurt. This is probably a deal of convenience that includes two players on the roster bubble. Perhaps the Chargers can revive Woods, but he'll have to fight just to make the team.

Richard Seymour - DL - Patriots


Richard Seymour will receive a first-year bonus of roughly $12 million and combined guaranteed money of $19 million in his contract.
It was a win-win for both sides. Seymour got a smaller bonus, but more money in the first four years of his contract than Jevon Kearse. The Patriots didn't have to break any records and can use their extra cap space on Seymour this offseason. As long as he's healthy, he should finish this deal.

Fred Taylor - RB - Jaguars


Fred Taylor is concerned the team will cut him.
"There are 31 other teams in this league, and I'm good enough to play for somebody," Taylor said this week. Taylor doesn't put much faith in owner Wayne Weaver and coach Jack Del Rio's public belief in him. "If they say something, it doesn't necessarily mean you mean it a week later. It's all hot air until it happens."

Ron Dayne's three-year contract voids after two seasons if he reaches 2,500 yards combined.
That's going to be tough with Tatum Bell and a possible rookie first-day pick lurking. Mike Shanahan prefers using one workhorse to carry the load, though, and Dayne is the current favorite.

James Harrison - LB - Steelers


Steelers signed LB James Harrison to a four-year, $5.5 million contract.
Harrison is a classic example of why the Pittsburgh front office is so good. He was an undrafted player who developed for three seasons on the practice squad before filling in beautifully as a replacement starter last season. He wasn't a free agent for two more seasons, but now they have him locked up at a cheap price. He will probably be a starter before the deal is up

Jeremi Johnson - RB - Bengals


Bengals re-signed FB Jeremi Johnson to a one-year, $721,000 contract.
The restricted free agent received feels from San Francisco, but no offer sheet. Johnson is perhaps the best young fullback in football, so it's good news for Rudi Johnson owners. The Bengals will rely on their running game more than ever with Carson Palmer hurt.

Carson Palmer continues to perform light throwing at jogging at the Bengals training complex.
So far, so good with his rehab. That said, Palmer underwent nearly the same surgery that Daunte Culpepper did, except two months later. Some Dolphins observers fear Culpepper will miss a big chunk of the season.

His contract has been reported a few different ways. The odd part of Clayton's report is a reported $18.6 million option bonus will be paid in 2007, instead of this season, when the Patriots have a lot of cap room. Apr. 14

Chargers GM AJ Smith has confirmed that he's attempting to trade Donnie Edwards.
Edwards, as consistent a tackler as there is in football, turns 33 this month and will cost $3.55 million to any team that wants him. San Diego is looking for a first-day pick, which seems like a reach. With so much cap room, it's another curious move by Smith. What's the rush to deal a solid starter? Apr. 14

Bengals safety Madieu Williams (shoulder) hasn't been cleared medically for football activities.
He's been hurt for six months, so it's a concern. A star as a rookie, Williams was lost for the season in October last year. He is working out now, however. Apr. 14

The Chargers have confirmed they are trying to trade Pro Bowl special teamer Hanik Milligan.
Drew Rosenhaus has instructed his client to hold out and wait for a deal. He never plays at safety, so it's debatable what anyone would offer for him in a trade. Apr. 14

Darius Watts appreciates the public support his coach and quarterback have given him recently.
Public support will only get you so far. The drop-prone 2004 second-round pick was inactive the last ten games of last season after a decent rookie campaign. He's entering a make-or-break season. Apr. 14

Chargers LB Steve Foley is 100% recovered from an abdominal strain that slowed him last season.

Coach Jeff Fisher took starting linebacker Keith Bulluck to task Friday for missing offseason workouts.

The Bengals have agreed to a six-year, $7.5 million contract extension for FB Jeremi Johnson.
This is not a repeat. Johnson signed a one-year deal only a day ago before coming to terms on the long-term deal. It's also mentioned on the Bengals website. Johnson will make $2.4 million in the first year of the deal, making him the highest paid fullback in the league. Great news for Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry Apr. 15

Chargers DE Shaun Phillips was arrested Friday after he scuffled with a police officer.
Phillips was charged with resisting arrest. The officer reportedly saw Phillips with a woman in a headlock before approaching. Phillips had seven sacks last season as the team's top backup at outside linebacker. Apr. 14

The Titans have a few more days to respond to the NFLPA's greivance regarding Steve McNair.
Agent Bus Cook reiterated Friday that McNair is still barred from working out with the team. Depending on Tennessee's response to the grievance, there could be an expedited hearing before the NFL Draft regarding his status. Apr. 14

The Titans have hired a trainer for QB Steve McNair.
The team responded to the NFLPA's grievance by paying $110 dollars a day for their expensive signal caller to work out. McNair's agent Bus Cook said it'd be in the best interest of the Titans to let the quarterback train with his teammates or release him. Billy Volek and Matt Mauck have shared time with the first-team offense at minicamp in McNair's forced absence. Apr. 16

The Browns expect Braylon Edwards to be ready by week one.
Edwards tore his ACL December fourth and may miss most of training camp. "Edwards’ injury was basically a nine-month injury," coach Romeo Crennel said. "We’re saying and expecting that he will be back at the beginning of the year. If he makes better progress before that, good." Edwards probably won't be 100% until 2007. Apr. 18

GM Mike Tannenbaum says Chad Pennington will not be at full strength for June minicamp.
"I wouldn't feel comfortable characterizing exactly what he'll be doing," Tannenbaum said Friday. The comments mark the first time Jets management has spoken about Pennington this month, who's recovery time from shoulder surgery will be at eight months by the June camp. If Pennington is able to return for next season, he'll battle Patrick Ramsey for the starting job. Apr. 22

San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders says his city doesn't have the money to fund a new football stadium.
Sanders says he'll try to open the door for the Chargers to relocate to San Diego county, which they'd potentially be able to do after the 2008 season. "I believe the Chargers are committed to San Diego, and I want to keep them," he said. "But I think the best shot at doing that is by releasing them from the lease agreement." Apr. 22

Cedric Houston was involved in a car accident Friday night.

Kyle Boller has "no doubt" he'll be the Ravens starter next season.
Boller says he's added 20 pounds of muscle (of course) and has been working with Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton. He added that he would welcome the presence of Steve McNair. Apr. 23

Ricky Williams made his first public comments since his drug appeal hearing Sunday.

Nick Saban and Ricky Williams met to discuss Williams' future Wednesday.
Saban reportedly doesn't want Williams to play in the CFL, but was hoping the two sides could come to a "mutual" decision. The Dolphins have to give Williams written permission to head north of the border.

Javon Walker - WR - Broncos


NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Denver and Javon Walker have reached agreement on a five-year, $42 million contract including $15 million guaranteed.
Walker, who will sign the deal Monday, will reportedly make $24 million over his first three years in Denver. We're surprised the Broncos paid so much, but they must feel confident in the health of Walker's knee. It's an ideal long-term landing spot because Mike Shanahan should help Walker produce like a No. 1 wideout. Deion Branch is smiling somewhere.

Vince Young - QB - Titans


The Titans plan to bring Vince Young along in a similar fashion to Steve McNair.
McNair played the final three games of his rookie season and started toward the end of his second season before becoming a full-time starter in year three. Young is probably further along than McNair was at the time, but Billy Volek should be the week one starter.

Charlie Frye - QB - Browns


Charlie Frye stands atop the Browns depth chart at quarterback following the trade of Trent Dilfer.
Frye looked very promising as rookie in a fine performance against the Jaguars and in wins over the Ravens and Raiders. He could put up QB2 numbers during Cleveland's easy early schedule, but the Browns offense still looks a year away from being average.

Marques Tuiasosopo was mentioned in trade talks before the NFL draft, but may now be the No. 3 quarterback in Oakland.
Tui will battle Andrew Walter for the backup job behind Aaron Brooks. Walter is believed to be the team's "quarterback of the future" and we wouldn't be surprised if he became the starter this season.

Derrick Gibson is likely to be a reserve after Michael Huff was drafted.

The 49ers reportedly extended Ken Dorsey's contract for a year at the request of the Browns before trading him.
Dorsey is now under contract through 2007. The Browns must view him as a viable candidate to be their backup.

Bills signed franchise CB Nate Clements to a one-year, $7.2 million contract.
Clements signed so he can participate in minicamp this weekend. The 2004 Pro Bowler still hopes to get a long-term deal, but he may have to wait until 2007. On paper, the Bills secondary has a lot of room for improvement this season.

First-round pick Jason Allen will play safety primarily at Dolphins minicamp.
The Miami Herald said the team plans to use him at cornerback initially, but it appears they are grooming Allen to have position flexibility.

Tatum Bell - RB - Broncos


Broncos GM Ted Sundquist indicated the Broncos plan to use Tatum Bell in a similar rotation role as last year.
"You have the speed/breakaway guy (Bell) who seems to be at his best when he carries the ball one to 10 times, and then you've got the power guy on the inside," Sundquist said. It worked well for Denver last season, who finished second in the league in rushing. It also led to highly inconsistent production for Bell's fantasy owners. Its interesting to note Denver targeted Laurence Maroney with their first-round pick before trading up for Jay Cutler instead.

Ron Dayne - RB - Broncos


Denver GM Ted Sundquist admits the team plans to use Ron Dayne in the same role Mike Anderson had last year.
Anderson finished with 56 more carries than Tatum Bell last season. Look for Dayne and Bell to have a similar split in 2006, with Dayne getting the goal-line work.

The AP reports that Daunte Culpepper is "running and throwing" in Miami's offseason program.
He also received a "favorable report" when examined recently by Dr. James Andrews. Running and throwing is very vague, but Culpepper sounds to be ahead of Carson Palmer in his recovery. Culpepper underwent surgery in November, but his availability for training camp is very questionable.

The Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel report that Joey Harrington will be traded to the Dolphins this weekend.
The Sentinel says the deal will be completed Friday. Terms aren't available, but its believed to be for a 2007 second day draft pick. Harrington is expected to sign a two-year contract with Miami. With Daunte Culpepper recovering from a torn ACL, Harrington will run the Dolphins all summer and is the favorite to be their week one starter. If he plays well initially, it could set up an interesting decision for Nick Saban. May. 12

Chad Pennington says he is "full go" in his rehab of a torn rotator cuff and can already throw "every route in the playbook."
Pennington is attempting an unprecedented return from two rotator cuff surgeries. "I'm trying to get better than what the old Chad Pennington was," the QB said. The optimism is laudable but its worth noting Pennington's arm strength was not the same in 2005 after his first surgery. Patrick Ramsey has a legitimate chance to win the starting job under the new Jets staff. May. 12

Jaguars RB Maurice Drew and Bears CB Ricky Manning Jr. were charged with assault for allegedly engaging in a fight at a Denny's last month.
Everyone knew about Manning's involvement, and Drew was rumored to be there. His handlers shrugged it off as coincidence before the draft. Manning was already on probation, so could be in more trouble than Drew, who was taken in the second round by Jacksonville.

Joey Harrington understands he will be a backup in Miami once Daunte Culpepper is healthy.
Not that we had much doubt, but it's clear Harrington was told there wasn't going to be a true competition. "I am in a situation where I need to be prepared to play if I need to, but I also need to be prepared to be there for the team if Daunte is healthy and ready to go," Harrington said.

The Dolphins will allow Ricky Williams to play in Canada if they get written assurance he will be released when the CFL season ends in November.

He could earn $300,000 there plus endorsements. Williams is currently in Grass Valley, Calif., teaching at a yoga school. Sometimes the joke just tells itself. May. 19

The delay in Steve McNair's grievance decision could rekindle trade talks between the Titans and Ravens.
The two teams haven't come to an agreement concerning McNair's value. Baltimore offered a fifth-round pick during the draft and was denied. League execs believe a second-day pick should be enough to acquire the aging quarterback, but Titans GM Floyd Reese's compensation demands are reportedly higher. A conditional pick, similar to the one dealt for Joey Harrington, might work.

The van driver then re-entered his vehicle, put the Honda in reverse, and smashed the front of the citizen's truck. The driver of the Honda van was allegedly Jake Plummer.

If Holmes started the regular season on PUP, he wouldn't be able to play until week seven. The elephant in the room here is Holmes' salary, which was reduced to $710,000 in March. It's very possible the salary will be a retirement gift.

Lewis recently completed 500 hours of community service as punishment for last year's federal drug plea bargain. Coming off a career-worst season, the former 2,000-yard rusher has Mike Anderson added this offseason to backfield. Jun. 5

Coach Brian Billick is confident Ed Reed won't hit the 2007 free agent market.

Johnathan Sullivan - DL - Patriots


FoxSports.com reports the Patriots acquired DT Johnathan Sullivan for WR Bethel Johnson.
The #6 pick of the 2003 draft will be a stern test for Bill Belichick's ability to maximize talent. A former teammate of Richard Seymour at Georgia, Sullivan will compete for a roster spot at tackle behind Vince Wilfork. It's a no-risk move for the Patriots, who had no plans to use Johnson. Jun. 5

Steve McNair - QB - Titans


Steve McNair isn't expected to visit the Titans facility Monday.
Per an arbiter's ruling, he's eligible to return but must first pass a physical. The Titans' reasoning for withholding McNair, who failed a physical because of a torn pec after last season, was that he could get hurt and hold the team liable for his $23.46 million cap number. Titans trainers are currently on vacation. Jun. 5

Bills claimed QB Kliff Kingsbury off waivers from the Jets.
Kingsbury, waived May 31, could compete with Craig Nall, Tory Woodbury, and Craig Ochs to be Buffalo's third quarterback. Jun. 5

A.J. Nicholson - LB - Bengals


A.J. Nicholson posted bond and was released from jail over the weekend.
The former FSU star linebacker is accused, along with ex-teammate Fred Rouse, of burglarizing the apartment of Seminoles RB Lorenzo Booker. In an affidavit, Rouse confessed to the crime and "said he heard glass break and a short time later A.J. Nicholson returned carrying two portable stereos, a DVD player, and a pair of headphones." NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Priest Holmes (neck) "could be this year's Tedy Bruschi."
Schefter reports the Chiefs are willing to wait as long as the former All-Pro needs to rehabilitate, even if it he isn't ready well into the season.

49ers signed QB Shaun Hill.
Hill, most recently of the Minnesota Vikings, worked out in May with the Colts. In San Francisco, he'll compete to be the Niners' third-string quarterback. Jun. 5

Chad Johnson - WR - Bengals


Chad Johnson was taken out of practice on a cart Friday with an apparent groin injury.
The Cincinnati Enquirer says he fell hard, and is probably taking an MRI. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis predictably downplayed the injury, "He goes down quite a bit, but he usually pops back up... He tweaked a muscle. He's fine." With minicamp ending Saturday, the Bengals aren't required to update Johnson's condition before training camp.
