The scuttlebutt going around now that the new scoreboard and jumbotron for the South endzone could be built and ready in time for the season. It will replace this old gal (http://www.collegegridirons.com/big12/texas_tunnel.jpg) and supposedly will be the largest in the world. Currently, the scoreboard at Arkansas' Razorback Stadium (http://www.collegegridirons.com/sec/images/razor152.jpg) holds that distinction at 30 feet by 107 feet. The new board at DKR is rumored to be 50 x 150. Compare that with the renderings for the new board (http://www.aggieathletics.com/index2.php?&CAT=FAC&pageID=1505) aggy is putting up at Pyle Field that will measure 50 x 70 and you can quickly see that the new board at DKR will be a freakin' monster.

A month ago, the Miami Dolphins unveiled their new scoreboard, hailed as the largest high-definition video screen in the world. By July, when the Texas Longhorns' new scoreboard is expected to be in place at Royal-Memorial Stadium, the Dolphins will have to be content with having the world's second-largest big-screen TV.
The University of Texas' high-definition LED scoreboard will be 134 feet wide and 55 feet high and will replace the 10-year-old, far smaller scoreboard in the south end zone. The Dolphins' largest scoreboard (they have two) is 140 by 50 feet, according to Mark Steinkamp, marketing and sales support manager of Daktronics, the South Dakota company that designed both boards.
The Texas scoreboard is the centerpiece of $8 million in audiovisual improvements that will include a new sound system, two 20-foot-wide displays in the north end zone and LED banner displays on the east and west facades of the stadium.
Notable LED displays in stadiums:
Team Width x Height Square feet
University of Texas* 134 x 55 7,370
Miami Dolphins* 140 x 50 7,000
Atlanta Braves* 79 x 71 5,609
University of Arkansas 107 x 30 3,210
Ohio State University 90 x 30 2,700
* Denotes high-definition displays

Supposed to be up and running for the UNT game. I believe it will be done in July and then tested in August. The old board is being taken down now.

WoW!
It goes to show, you win a National Championship, and the alumni start writing checks!
I'n not sure which side of the field that's on, but they may have half the field in the shade.

You might want to rethink which team will be getting whipped. All those alumni checks being written at Texas might very well still be burning up alumni pockets if Troy Smith hadn't got one of his own. Maybe it was mac that shelled out the $500 in 04'.
