Thought I would put this out there. I did not go to College Station over the weekend. Which players stood out, which ones were disappointments? Any teams suprise you with their talent, which ones under performed?

i am curious to know as well - How did Greg MCelroy not make all-tournament team ? he is a superhero -- must be Houston bias.

i can't answer specifically about mcelroy, but generally the a-t teams are comprised of players from the successful teams. the team is made up mostly of teams that went the furthest, so baytown lee and bay city have more than abilene and colleyville and so on down the line. since no group or individual could realistically have seen every player on every team, they probably have reps for each pool submit their favorites and then if a team goes all the way to the finals, all 4 of their players are selected. not very scientific, but then again since it is all for show anyway, not to much heartburn is created.

Surprised that Snead made the all tourney team as Stephenville didn't even make it to the championship bracket

MCelroy throws a nice ball, but overall he didn't impress me that much. Jacobsen was the correct pick from SLC for all tourney.

Am I hearing that SLC did not win the 7 on 7. All I have been hearing here lately is how much better the current qb is than Daniels , and those wide- outs are this year than all the others teams players........who won the 7 on 7 ?

SLC was without Renfro and a few defensive players....also, the type of game that many high school teams play in 7 on 7 does not translate to the type of game that is played on Friday nights.....such as underhand tosses where QB's run up to the line of scrimmage and underhand it to a receiver to get first downs, dinky passes that would hit lineman smack in the middle of the back ect......

In other words......those 7 on 7 games are fun and everyone wants to win.....but I doubt that coaches take it seriously.....

63 teams did'nt win....unless my math is fuzzy....I guess an even greater number did'nt even get to make the trip...and wow...more than that don't even play 7 on 7......I know one thing..Carroll has as good a chance to be playing late into December as anyone else...don't ya think?..... or maybe you don't think before you post.....;)

Anyone that tries to make a major point about 11 man football by using summer 7 on 7 doesnt know much about 11 man football. Lets see...

1. Running game
2. O-Lines / D-Lines.
3. Special teams.
4. 100 yard field
5. ECT....

I like summer 7 on 7 because its gets alot of the skill kids out there running around and staying in shape and gets them in the football "state of mind." Plus, its like SKEL drills for passing. It cant do anything but help a team get better in the passing game and the LB's and DB's to get in shape for pass coverage.

But No Way, No How is summer 7 on 7 a reflection of 11 man football. Night and Day. But, it helps get the skill kids in shape and working on some timing. :)

Most of the High School coaches are really on Pins and Needles waiting for one of their skill kids to tear an ACL.

Saw all of SLC's games.

On defense, just like last year, the lbs were outstanding - quick and fast and covering receivers well. The dbs were having some difficulty staying with the outside receivers - sometimes because of picks.

On offense, the star was Jacobsen - incredibly quick and outstanding moves. Ironically, his drop ended SLC's last chance for a comeback against Wylie. Its early, but McElroy isn't yet in Daniel's class - he is accurate but doesn't have the zip that Chase did. Actually, young Dodge had more zip on the ball than McElroy. He played one series in each of the games and I believe SLC scored on all of them except against Wylie.

No question SLC will be playing in December.

Are you saying that Dodge is better than McElroy

Talking about injuries, I think Conroe took a big hit. Conroe's big 300 lb. fullback Mo MacArthur injured his knee in their first game against Lufkin. He was running a pass route when his own player crashed into his knee diving for a pass reception. He could not walk or stand on the knee and had to be assisted off the field. I did not see him the following day with the Conroe team. He was projected to be a big part of the Conroe offense this season.

That is the chance you take when you play anytime.

Honestly I think Dodge looked better than McElroy. They both looked good, but I think Dodge looked a little better.

I thought McElroy looked horrrible. I dont see how any of you can think that this kid is better than Daniel??? Thats verrrry optimistic, I dont know much about this guy, all I know is what I saw in college station, and I was NOT impressed.

quick go06, get on the horn to all those d-1's that have already offered him a free education and those that are getting ready to and tell them what you saw. they must be crazy. i am really hoping you can talk the macster out of offering him, cause i'm afraid he would take it, and end his growth as a qb.

McElroy and Dodge were both very good. Believe me, DR would love to have either one this year. The noticeable difference was the quickness by which the ball got to the recievers on an out pattern - Dodge's velocity was very similar to Daniel's. And Dodge has matured physically - saw him practice last summer and he is much bigger now than he was at that time.

having watched todd and riley throw for several years, it is remarkable how similar they look with a football in their hands. if you blur your eyes a little, or if you are like me and just take off your specs, they look exactly alike. arm strength will not be a problem with mcelroy. he has the strongest arm of any dodge coached qb's. he is learning every day about touch and has improved tremendously.

honestly I don't know why you dont think McElroy looked good. I thought he had a really good arm. I dont see how you can even compare Dodge and McElroy. They are in two different leagues.

Size, arm strength, accuracy. Dodge was probably throwing the ball as hard as he could, and McElroy can still embarass him.

I hope everyone holds the opinion that Mc will struggle..... ;) It's great that we have 2 quality guys to choose from...I believe Coach Dodge will give Riley some quality PT this year...
