Guess I haven't paid attention lately. Go to lobosfootball.com and look at the projected roster for next year. Count how many kids over 200 lbs. Not very many. May not be a problem for skill positions (yea whatever!), but the d and o lines are in trouble.

Cmon King, don't be so pessimistic. We will be basically the same size as last year we just won't have the depth. Big Tackles(both 280 +), small center(200) and gaurds(215-220) on the Oline. I think our defense will be very good again. I think we will have three playmakers on our front 7 on defense in Guinn(210-LB,Dline), Hatcher(200-LB), and Brown (240Dline). The O will be the big questionmark this year.

If we can find some receivers I think our offense will be fine b/c we all know Miles has a great arm. I just hope he doesn't throw as many INTs as he did in his limited playing time last year. Our backfield will be talented also. We've all seen Mark Johnson, small but very talented. Aubrey Wickerson has alot of potential at RB if he can stay out of trouble.

Man, with all the drug war violence, I'd say Laredo is in the crapper until they get a handle on it! No offense Laredo folks, but I use to enjoy going to Nuevo, but I don't think you'd be advised to cross the bridge these days...

Just remember this, Judson has a bunch of hardware in there trophy case and most of that damage was done with undersized, speedy linemen on both sides of the ball! I'd take a 5'10" 200 lb quick lineman with no body fat over a 300 lb over weight, slow lineman any day in HS football!
SV has never had huge lines with the exception of Cory Clark a couple years ago, but they still manage to dominate the line of scrimmage in 95% of their games even when they are seemingly outmanned at the point of attack. It is because of their quickness and the technique that they are taught.

Maybe this year we won't be carrying the burden of high expectations. It will be a plus for this young inexperienced team. Maybe they will have the attitude of proving everyone wrong, which I think can be better than proving everyone right like the last few years.
Longview has always been small up front but quick. After the non-district schedule the players will be battle tested and ready for district.

I think we have a typical Longview team. I said earlier that if we found some receivers our O would be ok, but then I was thinking about Malcolm and that he didn't even have 1,000 yds passing his senior year. I should say I just hope we have a good RB and Oline.

WM would have to a whole lot better or we would have to be a whole lot worse for them to beat us. I don't think either one of those are happening. It wasn't just ouir talent that beat them last year....they got outcoached too. It will probably be a good game. From what I understand they lost alot of talented seniors from last years team.

these are the same fans that attend the games---no wonder we are in trouble!!
Looks Like some longview fans will try a different approach this year!!! That way if you don't have a decent year, you didn't expect too. whats up with ya'lls board ? I go there from time to time but it is dead , is there nothing else going on in longview?or did that many longview fans just give up on the lobos after the Garland game? Are the lobos going to have a 7on7 team? If so will they compete in the LUFKIN tournoment? or will ya'll still try to just run the ball with Ivory and (I forgot his name already)

not a different approach for me, brother...whether or not the expectations are high, i have always kept a low profile on all of the "trash-talk" and bragging(for the past 3 or 4 years, anyway).......Ivory is gone, as well as McGee, so you won't see any running from them in a Longview uniform.....7 on 7?? don't remember us ever having a 7 on 7 team...i don't know why?? don't know about the website, don't go there much anyway--too many homers and trash-talkers... and yes, there is nothing going on here in Longview...did i answer all of your questions......peace.............................. .

the last year we had 7 on 7 was 98' I think. They stopped having it b/c there was a fight involving our team and it hasn't started back up. King and Collins don't want to support one.

I have looked at the lineups in the past and I do not remember us being this small all around before. I know that we are usually small up front but what I see is worse than usual. I say that because of the type of offense that King uses. It is just scary to me. As far as downing the team early, No I am not. Just think that it will take a lot of work. This club will be new on both sides of the ball.
So I am not a naysayer, just a "realist" and expect us to do fairly well this year.
Rclisle, you really need to go watch WM's spring game if you can. I have a friend over there who is pretty realistic (he almost called last years game exactly). Anyway he says that this should be one of their better teams in the last couple of years...esp where speed is concerned.
Longview does not have a 7 on 7 team. I asked King and Collins specifically if we could get one together and they said no. They may however have one put together to do one on one with other schools.
dont worry bleed, I will "KEEP HOPE ALIVE":D :D :D

I think size is the last thing we need to be worried about. I think we need a much more disciplined team that doesn't have almost 100 yds in penalties in the first half of a playoff game and doesn't get a personal foul everytime they get mad. That is one reason we had a few very close games last year and shouldn't have.

yes, i am a "realist", just as Kingwolf is, but the very few times that i went on the site, it was just a bunch of childish arguing and "beating of the chests"...sorry, that is just flat, a$$ boring to me...the SAD thing is that most of the "trash-talkers" on the site were our OWN football players!! wonder how much talking was going on after we choked to a team who isn't even near the caliber team of what we have..don't care if they have won 2 times over us or not, we should have completely dismantled and destroyed SG both years--that's pathetic!! OK, let me calm down a little...back to the subject at hand, you said that i have "written them off for the next couple of years"???? how the hell did you come up with that?? we lost practically everyone. doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure the scenario out. we are not expected to do anything this year. that's fine with me. i would rather be an "underdog" anyway, so to speak. this will be a rebuilding year for us, next year will be better, but not by much..that's just the flip side to football--you can't keep the same horses forever, they graduate, and you have to rebuild. but, like i have stated before a few times, we still should win district, our district isn't really that strong anyway, IMHO....haven't written anyone off, brother.....i will be there as a Lobo, through thick and thin

Just curious. With other schools so close to Longview, like Spring Hill, Pine Tree, Marshall and Hallsville, do you lose many player transfers to those programs?
Lufkin does not have that problem because there is no other schools close enough, except Diboll or Huntington that play football.

You said about a month ago that "the next few years were going to be pure hell". That's why I said you had written us off.
I just disagree with that. I am realisitic but also optimistic. We will have a slightly smaller but very good defense again. Our O will be a question mark though. Miles has a gun and if he can hit some receivers we will be ok.
Our main problem this year will be depth. If we have any injusries that will really hurt us.

yes, i will admit that i did make that comment---am i lying?? think about it.....the next 2 years will be an uphill climb compared to what we have had the past 2 seasons...that's what i meant by "pure hell"...but, oh yea, i'm just as optimistic about our chances to do something as you are. it CAN be done, that's a given. i've seen it happen too many times over the years with many different programs...it is possible, anything is.......BUT, just in case that doesn't happen, look at the bright side--we're not predicted to do anything anyway........we won't be as strong as years past, but hell, we didn't do anything with our talent even when we had it...this team has just as good as a chance as any of them, i guess??

Not really. But within 15-20 minutes we also have Gilmer, White Oak, Gladewater, Kilgore. A lot of potential for people leaving. doesn't happen that i know of alot. we usually get the good players from those programs until they all started playing so well other than Pine Tree. they will never play well.

I think we will be competitive next year if we are healthy. The last few years we have had depth and could withstand some injuries but I don't not this year. I agree it may be uphill b/c we will have young players all over but maybe we can improve each week and be ready for the playoffs. The next year is year that I think we will rebuild. I saw some freshmen games last season and it didn't look good. But I think they actually had some good wins though.

The coaches have the said the last two years that the teams were very close and had great chemistry. Less talent is a certainty but maybe the low expectations will drive them to work hard. I'll take hard work and grit over talent any day.

they didn't look pretty but I think they had a winning record. but we all know how things change over three years.
