There's another Seguin fan and I'm sure a few of us 26-5A guys will check in...and espouse our dominance!:p

I think I've seen a few Austin Bowie fans and I know there's a San Marcos fan out there. Westlake has several fans.

That will be pretty upsetting. I want to talk football with those who know their teams best. At least last year in 25 we had allof the Clemens fans.... they grew on me.. good guys.

Now if these Seguin guys can grow on me!:p

It will be like always. You'll see some new posters in 25-5A to start the year and you'll see a lot more for the teams that make the playoffs. You'll have to get a lot of your info from San Marcos and Westlake.

We've had a lot of good teams. Just had to play Judson in the first round all the time. I'm not sure what we've got coming back this year. I know we've got a couple good running backs and our defense is always solid.

I know we owned Seguin when y'all used to be in our district. Here's to a repeat performance! :D

BTW, what happened to Sequin when they switched districts a couple years ago? Did they change coaches? Because I remember they were the worst team in our district just before the switch to 26-5A. I lost track of them after they left and just noticed them winning more.

I remember when their band won some Austin competition and they were going crazy because it was the only thing the entire school had won in about 3 years. This was around 2003.

They hired Jim Carson, who used to be at Odessa, and he's improved the program.

I think getting rid of Bubbacoach helped, too!:p

The last year we were in the Austin distirct was Coach Carsons first year. I do not remember if any of you remember that year but we showed great improvement in one year.... we didn't win but two district games but we lost a ton of close games.... we took Westlake to the wire and even had a fieldgoal lead going into the 4th quarter, I believe.

The next year we switched district and the competition wasn't as good but we were still much improved. That year we beat San Marcos at home, the previous district champs, and almost beat Clemens and won the district championship.

I think last year I seen overall improvement and this upcoming years team will probably be the best team we have ever fielded.

A little about the Mats:

Over the last couple of years, our defense has carried us. The 26 guys wont admit to this and will attribute it to a sub-par district, but I have seen teams play, and our defense has been consistently one the best and hardest hitting defenses year in and year out; Top 3 in the area good. Next year, I think we will field our most talented defense yet..... a great player at all 3 levels. We have the only first team all area defenders from the Express News all area team returning, a linebacker and a corner. We have a d-end that is a freak of nature. Our linebacking core is going to be stacked and our defense of line is going to be good. Our secondary is going to be damn good, too. It will be a fast defense that swarms to the ball.

Our offense has been sup-par over the past couple but I think we are finally going to have the talent needed to be succesful this year... I pretty stoked about the offense this year and like I said in another post, I expect it to go from bad to very very good..... here is a breakdown I gave in another thread.

Our all state cornernback, Desmond Jackson, is playing both ways for us next year. He will be playing corner and qaurterback. He is 6'1-190 lbs and probably the best athlete in the area coming into his Senior year.... maybe the best overall player (Minus Fanuzzi, maybe... who knows with the injuries) returning in the SA area. The kid is as fast and athletic as anyone I have seen... think James Henry type sprinting speed but I think he has more shifty-ness. I don't know how he will run the quarterback and the offense but I know he can throw hard, far, and accurate (pick up games) and with his athletism I know he will be able to make plays on his legs.

At Running back we are returning a 1,000 yard rusher. He has a pretty nice year last year and the extra year of experience and practice will only make him better.

Reciever is the posistion that really has me excited this year. Calvin Caad is our returning big time reciever, he had 10 td catches last year and is very fast and athletic with good size at 6'1 175. We have another big reciever named Dexter... he is 6'4... not a lot of speed but he is big with nice hands and can go up and get the ball. The huge addition we add is Michael Martin. He is our standout basketball player who gave up football after his freshman year to play basketball.... he recently decided to play football again and the guy is 6'6 210 with sprinters speed and very good jumping ability (see below link). He used to make a ton of great catches as a freshman and has always had good hands and cordonation. http://sasports.com/images/variouspics/seguinmartin.jpg This is a picture of him dunking as a sophmore two years ago... imagine this on the football field.

A little, but at the same time what did ya'll do in the first round both years against the third place team out of 26-5A. The competition level had alot to do with it. You would not have made the playoffs either year in 26-5A. (Nor would any one in that district.) You do not have to agree, but know it is fact.

I know Bubba. I just wanted to pull your chain. That game at Hays was extremely cold, too. Judson was fortunate to win that game on their way to a title.

Yes, Seguin looked better because they were playing pitiful teams, but they were still better than before.

I was shocked when you guys took Westlake to the wire. That was the 6-4 Westlake team in 2003 that lost to North Shore in the semis and probably got that far only because ol' boy from Madison got hurt.

We admitted you had a good defense, but it was not Top 3 good last year. You can't claim status like that playing chump offenses. Judson and SV had a better defense and so did Clemens.

You put Clemens, San Marcos, or Seguin in that district and let them play the week to week battles that improve you.... you do not know how good they would have gotten. San Marcos started out the season as a better team than Madison last year and they proved that by beating them... if they played the same schedule as Madison... Judson would have been on the outside looking in.

Oh, so coaching is the reason for improvement when it is beneficial to your arguement?  lol

Or, we might say it had something to do with a more competitive district that improves you week in and week out? I think anyone will agree that playing inferrior teams will stunt your development as a team.

Wouldn't you agree that in football a good consistent offense will help leads to better numbers on defense? A better offense can keep the ball on the field and the defense off the field.

We're talking about if Seguin had one of the 3 best defenses in San Antonio last year and if any of the 25-5A playoff teams (Clemens, San Marcos, Seguin) could've made the playoffs if they were in 26-5A last year. 26-5A won all 6 playoff games vs. 25-5A the last 2 years and won 5 of the 6 games vs. 27-5A.

Carson came to Seguin from Midland Lee and not from Odessa.

Also, the Seguin game in 2003 vs. Westlake was a closely contested game, and had Seguin had a QB, they may have won.

Westlake's 2003 team didn't make run to the semi-finals because David Edward's broke his neck. The injury that Westlake suffered to RB Tyler Campbell was probably much more important. It forced the Chaps to throw the ball and change their offense. Teams did not expect the new pass-heavy scheme and overplayed the run due to old Westlake tendencies.

Then they ran into the North Shore buzz saw and were pummeled. :(

Madison blew Clemens out and would've won even if James Henry had played. It was worse than if he played, but they were destined to get beat.

You cannot say that for a fact. James was as good a player as there was in region 4 this year and it hurt Clemens' offense tremendously when he went out. Would Madison have beaten Clemens without Caflish? I think not. He was totally dominating in that game with his arm and legs including the long KO return!

I said it then, and I'll say it now, Madison deserved to win that game. They outplayed us in every aspect of the game. Clemens did not come to play and they got their A$$E$ handed to them!

Funny!:p No R-back would have made a difference in that game. Barry Sanders wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference the way that CJ's D dominated that ball game and you know that for a fact. Judson came to play and our kids didn't and took the worst beat down that they ever have for it.

The really sad fact is that Lenhof will remember that *** whoopin forever as it was the last game that he coached!
