T.Lee, Copperas Cove and Spring Westfield all go 0-3 at College Station, surprising but probably not indicative of the regular season this fall.

Colleyville Heritage and Abilene are playing for the consolation or third place game.
Bay City and Baytown Lee are playing for the Championship

I'm going to be a cynic and say, I sure hope so! I'm going to keep it real since Cove plays Judson in Game 2 and the other 2 teams play in D1 and are strong threats to the Rockets.

probably not an indicative of the regular season?? that was the understatement of the year!! anybody that has watched any 7 on 7 football knows it means nada when it comes to the real season. 7 on 7 is not even 1/4th like real football and i should not even have to explain.

I remember a couple years ago a school from our district played for the 7 on 7 finals, Namaan Forrest, and they didnt even make the playoffs that year.

Odessa Permian won the 7 on 7 championship in 2003, but failed to make the playoffs that same year. I wouldnt read too much into these results.

They made it to the championship bracket where they beat Beaumont West Brook 13-7. In the second round they beat Beaumont Ozen 24-13. Memorial lost in the next round 38-32 to Bay City.

O.K. 5Aers, please bear with my ignorance but what is the IMPORTANCE of these 7 on 7 tourney's?????

The 7 on 7 is just a good way to get your offensive and defensive skilled people some valuable off season work. Believe me 7 0n 7 is fun to watch, but what happens in the regular season is the most important and is what people remember you for, not 7 on 7 championships.

On the other hand, we did have our best season in 5 years (tied for 2nd place in district but missed a playoff spot on tiebreakers).

No doubt. Thank goodness we haven't suffered through any 0-10 seasons like Plano did. Just going 25-25 the past 5 years is bad enough.

Coppell sucks at 7 on 7, I played my senior year, when I switched to tight end. I had to play both offense and defense, cause we never have a defensive turn out...

Although Lee was disappointed it could not do better at defending its title, it was not as bad as it looked. Lee scored the 6th most points of the 64 teams in the tournament, championship or losers bracket. Hopefully we won't play any run-and-shoot teams with impenetrable O-lines.
Congrats to Baytown Lee and Bay City on a great tournament and to Celina, Friendswood and Brownwood on their play against Lee.

The Raiders did score a few points, they had to because their defensive secondary could not stop the other teams they played. I don't know if Lee had all of thier regulars there are not, but if what you guys had in College Station on the defensive side doesn't improve by the start of the season, a good passing team is going to give you some trouble. Your offensive is as potent as ever, so maybe you can just outscore teams.

Unless you run the spread offensively and man under two defensively 7 on 7 is almost a waste of time. You have to run a defensive scheme that you will probably not run in the regular season to be competitive in 7 on 7. Why waste time teaching your kids that stuff if you never plan on using it?

Everyone was there and they gave it a good effort, but we just didn't have the cover speed that we did last year. I still think it is early to push the panic button, as some of the holes we had in pass coverage should make for good run stoppers in the fall.

Even if you only throw 5 passes per game, these skills definately help. What's the old saying about practice and perfection? I suppose you think it's a waste of time for a guy like me that only plays golf 6-8 times a year to hit the driving range or a putting green.

Well, I think you took that a little out of context but that is o.k. Kids can go out on the field and play pass and catch anytime and you are right that does help in some ways. My point was why waste time doing things you won't normally do just to be competitive in a game that matters to no one and has no bearing on the regular season. As for your golf game--I have not seen you play so you would have to answer your own question--Is it a waste of your time? And if so, and you want to be competitive in golf, shouldn't you devote your time to that pursuit?

i almost agree with that statement. not to mention you could suffer a big injury to one of your skilled position players due to 7 on 7 play. i do see the benefits though so i am torn. again, people that try and get an indication of real football when looking at 7 on 7 results need to get a football iq. there is not even an offensive and defensive line going at it in 7 on 7 and there is no hitting and no rushing and i could go on and on how it is not close to real football. 7 on 7 can be beneficial but some read way too far into it. it is nothing more then a glorified flag football game to me. do not get me wrong, i think 7 on 7 has its pluses and it is entertaining to watch.

I'm just saying that w/out calling it 7 on 7, that's all we did in the summers to keep our hands on the ball and help stay in shape! That was a few (ok - 28) years ago and we didn't have to compete w/NCAA 2006. This is a vehicle that keeps the kids active and participating. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions! lol :D

Make no mistake I do not discredit anyones opinion--that is what makes this country great. I appreciate your response no matter if it fits with my views or not. Where I am from I know that 7 on 7 has proved to be more trouble than it is worth. You can't coach your kids on the field so you have some dad or another kid managing the sideline--that never seems to work out the way you had hoped. Also depending on where you are playing there is way to much negative stuff happening(trashtalking, players being individuals and being selfish) I think it would be a much better thing if the coaches that see those kids on a daily basis actually had more input in the 7 on 7 game than strictly standing back watching.

Well, I would rather have these kids playing summer 7 on 7 and staying involved in athletics during the summer and working together and playing together then staying at home playing PS2 football and get Fat and lazy or running around town and getting into mischef (like alot of kids do) when they have nothing else to do.
I think summer 7 on 7 is Great. Get all the kids involved in something. Heck, they need to find some summer games for the big beef boys (O-line and D-line players). :)
