There isn't a person on this board who knows what's going to happen in December. We have somewhat of an idea how our teams will play, but there are too many variables within a game to KNOW what's going to happen. We only THINK we know what's going to happen.

There is a a chance if they go Div II, no chance if they go Div 1, that choice will go to Westfield hands down.

Westfield has to prove some consistency. They have talent, but I'll be surprised if they match last year. In 1999 Garland beat Katy in the Div. 2 state game and had 14 starters back in 2000. They struggled all year and went out in the first round of the play-offs. I think last year was the first time Westfield was competitive since 1996. They need to prove themselves and IMO I don't think it will happen.

I would rather see a Katy/Lufkin State Final or Katy/Tyler Lee (imagine the sea of RED!) just to see someone different. I don't believe in revenge/rematch Finals 'cause half the team graduates the following year. You gotta beat 'em in THAT Final THAT year which makes High School football even more exciting.
Of course I wouldn't care who Katy faces in the Finals 'cause that means we are there!!

That is so true. It might happen one day, but it would take the UIL doing their districts in a different order than they currently do. It would work if they went North to South starting in El Paso and kept doing it. They could always put District 14 in Region 3 and the rest of the Houston teams in Region 4. If you move 14 out of Region 2, you'd have room for 1 SA district in Region 2, with the rest of them and the Valley in Region 3.

Katy should have another very good year, but I believe there are 7 or 8 eight teams (including the Tigers) that have the look of programs that can become championship contenders later this year. There is a lot of football to be played and always a few surprises. Cedar Park and Seguin were just a couple of those last year.

statistically speaking, you could have made the prediction every year for the last 10-12 and been right fairly often. there is little evidence to think this year will be any different.

Where does this come from?....Carroll has as good a shot as anyone....solid QB, best wide receivers as a group, top coach, proven defense...winning tradition. If I say the Dragons win State, do I get the $1000?... ;)

I do can not remember their names right now, but, I have some connections at Clemens still and have talked with some people close to the football program. Those that I have talked to say there are potentially 4-5 D1 prospects starting for Clemens, not including the OU comit. James Henry.

Like I posted before, Clemens supossedly has moved some of their strong D-LIne players to the O-Line to protect James Henry. Now, normally people would think that would mean the D-Line is not going to be as good as before. Well, from those that I have talked to, they say it will be just as solid as in 2003.

So, Clemens will have good lines on both sides of the ball.

I am also hearing that Clemens should be better this year because they will be a more effective passing team that in recent memory.

So James Henry running it and a good passing team with good lines should be solid.

A lot of people are thinking that anything less than a semi-final appearance will be a let down.

I am excited for the season to start.

Dave Campbell's says there is 2,316 students in the school. I'll keep an eye out on them over the coarse of the season. I know they had a few good seasons when they were 4A back in the Scott Hall days. :)

In 4A, if you thought the football teams were good, you should have seen the baseball teams kill those 4A SAISD teams. :) At one point, I think it was Mark Trevino and Scott Lenhoff pitching back to back perfect games.

My friend has a son who will start for Clemens this year and he says that Ferrara will be a better coach and open it up more and use more skill players to get the ball to. I haven't heard about moving a lot of players around, but he says they'll be good. He sure didn't say they'll have 5 D1 players.

Tell me once again what the rule is. Clemens was the #2 school in population 2 years ago, but won't be this year because of Steele. Are they going to count the numbers in the fall or go with the 2300 count? Both schools will be 4A next year.

That's the potential difference between being D1 and D2 unless East Central makes the playoffs.

I have heard that right now the 2300 stands. Clemens will go D1 unless SouthWest makes the playoffs.

I have also heard that Clemens will have 2 juniors this year that will probablly play football in college at the D1 level.

KT you are pretty much on the money every year and have the most believable rankings. Except for Dave Campbell as usual, most pre season polls are in line with your thinking. Lufkin has the mythical no 3 national ranking and even if that is mythical, there is a grain of support and truth to the rank. SLC is not far behind them.

In all fairness if I liked one of the little dogs, I'd want all the publicity we could get and have hope, etc. in a great season. Since I like Judson, I want to stop talking about most of the teams as soon as possible and get down to business with the top teams duking it out for all the marbles.

There is a saying "pride before a fall". I suspect that you are one of our younger posters, but you need to be mindful when making such a statement and that there are many many great teams in Texas 5A. I seem to remember Katy fans making similar claims last year and we all know there were tears on that day. Katy are one of many teams who have the potential to win it all, but I suggest you concentrate on winning the District first, one game at a time.

Like KT2000 said, that post was originally made in July of 2005. Someone picked up on it and I guess thought it was from 2006 and it has gone downhill from there. Katy always has a reason to feel confident - they have a lot of positives going for them even when they aren't quite as strong of a team as the year before. This was probably just a kid full of excitement for his Tigers and he put it down in writing - I have been guilty myself (see posts from Oct/Nov 2005!!) of letting emotions take over and then wanting to share with the world. I have to stop myself from doing the same thing when it comes to the Eagles...I am so darn excited for this season to start but I wouldn't go around saying we are going to win the whole thing hands down - there is a full season we have to play against several other very good teams and anything can happen along the way. Last year we started out 4th in the area and we didn't get into the playoffs until the very last evening of the season and we weren't even playing that game!!!
