Guys and Gals,

We're about to head out to Aggieland for the 7 on 7 tournament. Me and KT will be wearing our navy blue 5A Texas Football.com shirts. I will have a white Longhorn hat on as well. We'll be out there both days, so if you spot a couple ugly dudes in blue shirts, come by and say hello.

We'll hopefully have some pictures and a recap when we get back Saturday night.

Hope to see you there!

Well, everyone got in one pool play game today and then a thunderstorm moved through the area. The downpour created large puddles of water on the fields and didn't let up for a good amount of time. So, the 7 on 7 powers met and cancelled the remainder of the Friday schedule with plans to start play at 8 am tomorrow morning.

They don't know yet if they'll try and finish up pool play or just start with a single elimination tournament. The chance of storms in the College Station area remains high for tomorrow, so all it will take is one more downpour to throw things in doubt once again. So, it'll be interesting to see if the games all get played.

Regardless, it'll take until about 5-6 to finish the tournament that that's if they start tomorrow with a single elimination tournament.

I think they'll shorten games and try and finish pool play first before going into the elimination rounds.

Since only one game was played by all, not a lot to report at this stage for obvious reasons and the downpour made it impossible for updates to be posted on the big board, so we don't know the results of each game played yet.

We watched Abilene High come from behind to beat Alamo Heights in a very good game to start things off. Then, we watched Katy dismantle Mabank 47-13. We were on our way to see Bay City-Copperas Cove when the storm moved in.

I'll be surprised if they get any final results out of this tournament. Looks like champ and I made the correct read on Mother Nature by just deciding to head back yesterday after we got the Saturday forecast (have contacts in place to relay results of games that do get finished)...

The College Station doppler is down for maintenance, but you can easily see what's going on at this page. Just look at the dot with Bryan next to it, and you won't have to look that far south to see what's headed right for the tournament.

Storm cluster headed directly for College Station (http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?num=6&scale=1&delay=15&noclutter=1&showstorms=0&showlabels=1&ID=HGX&lat=29.76701927&lon=-95.74542236&label=Katy%2C+TX&type=N0R&zoommode=pan&map.x=400&map.y=240&centerx=400&centery=240&prevzoom=zoom)

HOT....very HOT weather...! Oh you mean with Lee's team. You can expect to see a lot of Trent Hines that is about all I know. They were unsettled at QB last time I heard. Quis is a great game day coach though and will have his team ready. I really don't think you will blow them out in the first half like you did in the A-dome last year. No problem getting the W but IMHO, they will make you work for it. Plus both Lee and Quis are used to playing at Shotwell. Looking forward to it (not the heat part though).

I heard that Hines is battling a bad leg ? Any truth to those rumors  Also, do they have a QB to help open up things on offense ? I think that's the biggest question everyone has about Midland Lee for this coming season.

QB position and secondary position ? Thanks and just curious. I kind of root for Midland Lee even though I'm not from Midland or even West Tx. I guess its because I'm a Benson fan and I've met Coach Parchman a few times and he always was funny. :)

Trent Hines has a "tweaked" hamstring. I believe he has had trouble with his hamstrings off and on for a couple of years.

I would expect to see a lot of Trent in the SLC game. Lee has been using a couple of QBs during 7 on 7 to give them some experience since none of them came out of the Spring with the starting job. From what I have seen myself and from what others have seen, they are all about average. They can throw the ball better than Jamie McCoy last year, but non of the are near the athletes Jamie was. Whoever the QB is will be helped by two pretty good WRs. Terrence McCoy (6'3 180) has good speed and can really get up and pull the ball down, and then there Evan Frosh (6'5 220) who doubles as a LB. He doesnt have the speed like McCoy, but he is a big physical presense.

The key to this game and the reason I dont think Lee will beat SLC is defense. Quiz coached teams just dont play very good defense and even then it takes them a couple of games to get going. Frosh will be a threat at LB and Lee does have an outstanding pass rusher on the line in Leslie Ray.

Yeah the injury rumor is apparently the real deal. However, he should be fine by the opening game. The QB is still a question mark as I understand. The O at Lee will be fine though. Quis knows how to milk offensive talent with the best of them- history has proved that. It's the D that he is weak on. With the manster Leslie Ray on the D line, they will be tough up front. I think he has a surprise in store for us with Terrence McCoy though. He has the athleticism to be a cornerback, wideout, even QB possibly? Who knows. At 6'4, 185, he can play many positions.

I too was a fan of Parchman. Good coach. Of course Cedric Benson could have made you and I both look like Todd Dodge. :D Truly a man playing with boys.

Lufkin did well in the 7 0n 7 tournament this weekend considering the offense this year is mostly made up of junior's to be in 2005. E.J. Shankle, Clifton Kibble and Marcus Rains are the only seniors on the Panther offense this year, Shankle is the only senior starter back with any real experience.

There was lots of great competition on hand in Aggieland this weekend and Mother Nature was one of them. A very wet weekend around Kyle Field to say the least.

weren't you the one that said conroe was going to teach lufkin about 7 on 7?? well yall are much better then 7 on 7 then real football that is for sure. i see lufkin won by 1 point. you will never be that close to lufkin in real football this year. that i promise you!! i do not know if it will be as ugly as last year but it still will not be pretty barring a miracle. i am sorry i had to let you have it because you were talking a little smack at me about 7 on 7. ;)

oh and it must have something to do with it considering a 5a school has won the last 4 7 on 7 championships and like 6 of the 8!! baytown lee was a finalist against a 4a school this year but it got rained out or it could have been 5 in a row for 5a in 7 on 7.

You're way off base. I know nothing about Conroe. I'm from Katy. If Lufkin can ever get past SLC, maybe Lufkin and Katy can meet in a Texas Bowl. We took your cousin Longview out in 1997 and your other cousin, Tyler John Tyler, in 2000 (twice). I'm talking about state championships, not opening season games.

i am sure i can sound arrogant about my team at times but i try not to do it disrespectfully unless provoked. even though lufkin manhandled katy in 2 regular season games in 2002 and 2003 i would never think to compare lufkin to katy. katy is right there as one of the greatest ever in 5a with judson no doubt. i would have preferred katy blowing out lufkin in 2003 if that meant lufkin would have won 15 in a row and a state championship so i agree with your statement completely.

My nephew played QB for the Vipers....they did pretty good.

Victoria Memorial began pool play with a 21-20 win over Pflugerville Connally, rallying from a 20-14 deficit on a touchdown pass from Michael Nuells to John Franco and the pair also hooked up for the conversion.

The Vipers fell behind Cypress-Fairbanks 20-6 before rallying to finish in a tie and advance to the championship bracket by virtue of a better point differential than Cy-Fair. Memorial tied the game on a touchdown pass from Nuells to Corey Peoples and then threw a two-point conversion pass to Peoples. "Once you start playing more, you get the nerves out of you," said Nuells, who played all but one series at quarterback on Saturday. "I'm getting better on my reads and I can scan the field better."

Nuells battled the rain against The Woodlands and threw touchdown passes to Andre Eagles, Brandon Flores and Franco. Cody Garcia returned an interception for Memorial's final touchdown in regulation. "I was pleased," said Memorial coach David Hartman. "We didn't play like we wanted (Friday) and we did a lot better job today." Neither team scored in the first overtime, before the Vipers took a 33-27 lead on a pass from Nuells to Travis Schulte. Teams are required to go for two-point conversions in the second overtime, and Nuells' pass for Schulte on the attempt fell incomplete. The Woodlands scored to tie the game and Kyle Drabek - the son of Victoria native Doug Drabek - made a leaping catch between two defenders in the corner of the end zone for the winning points. "I know in the end, the kids are disappointed," Hartman said. "But we were able to get in the winners' bracket, which is what we came up here to do. We played some good ball against some good teams"
