View Full Version : Goals of war

I just wanted to make a little blurb about goals of war since that other thread got locked.
They published 45 goals Russia had for the U.S. in the Congressional register in 1963. They accomplished almost all of the goals and their problem is they ran out of money in the Cold War. One of the key goals they had for the U.S. was to take over the educational system and erode loyalty to the country, our causes, values, morals, etc. This is not a perfect country, but it is a great country.
I tried to be balanced in that thread and national policy involves being greedy, nice, mean, and indifferent. In spite of all of it, I feel we are still the most humanitarian nation in the world. I know we do some of that stuff to look good to others, but we also care about others, too. Many vets struggle with why they killed people after wars are over, especially Vietnam.
One thing you need to remember about war is that you have to seize the initiative before the enemy does. If you wait until your enemy can damage you, it might be too late and you're done for. Don't think for a minute that Saddam, Osama, and whoever else you can think of from the radical Islamic world doesn't want the chance to try to destroy us. That means we have to destroy them before they do it to us. Most people can't understand the concept of attacking before you get threatened, but you need that. Most people think we shouldn't fight a war unless we can see the enemy's sure-fire plans to attack. We have intelligence that looks at what they're doing. When they look like they're going to make chemical weapons, we blow up the plant before they make any.
Our government says and does things to maintain public support for what we want to do as a nation. If the general public didn't care if we were the most ruthless nation in the world, they wouldn't have to lie to us about things. The public does not understand how to fight wars and they don't understand the greed of this nation, either. Because of that, they're going to lie about why we need to fight wars and what we're trying to do in wars.
There's one thing I know to be true and every vet on this board will agree with me. When you put on a uniform and know you're a target, you want to shoot the other guy before he even gets a chance to shoot you. Shoot first and ask questions later.
Yes, KT. It's not fun hearing sirens and explosions going off in the middle of the night. If we became the nicest country in the world right now, we'd get run over by some other greedy nation and then everybody would wish things went back to the way they used to be.
Here are those 45 goals that have almost all come to pass:

The other one got locked because of what was being said. I felt like I needed to say this stuff because people just don't understand policy and war.

I can't remember what channel exactly, but a U.S. sniper was being interviewed by one of the anchors for the particular news channel. The anchor asked him what he felt when he had an enemy target in his sight and had to take him down. He responded...
"Recoil."

FWIW, 95% of the threads that get locked are closed because of the way arguments are presented rather than the actual subject material itself.

It was in a movie, but it's also what everybody that puts on that uniform thinks. I'll tell you right now I'm going to shoot before I think about what the other guy is going to do.

A few things about this list Lonny. Contrary to the impression, these were NOT goals that the Soviet Union had for the United States. These were goals that the Communist Party USA had for the United States. A few indicators that these were not goals shared by Soviet Communists:
"22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms"
Russian Communists were opposed to abstract art. If the the CP of Russia had been behind this agenda, they would have promoted public sculptures glorifying the working man in Socialst Realism.
"25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
One of the big drawing points for the Communists in Russia was their earnest, fresh-faced form of morality. Homosexuality was considered inherently disorderd. Soviet movies from this era make American films of the same era look positvely lewd. Viewing pornography brought jail time. Young women and men who were Pioneers were encouraged to celebrate chasitity.
"40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce."
Again, diametrically oppsed to the Russian Communist program.
The CP USA completely deluded themselves about what the Communists in Russia were and what they stood for. In the USA, Communists often styled themselves as libertines, intellectuals, and free-thinkers. All of these were dangerous things to be in Stalin and Krushchev's Soviet Union.
Your analysis of the global situation is, in my opinion, spot-on however.

You're right. It always says Communist goals and I've always taken it in 1963 to be the Soviet Union to be the one's pushing for it.
Another thing during this time was Madalyn Murray O'Hair. She was a member of the Communist Party USA and tried several times to move to the Soviet Union with her sons. They turned her down in the U.S. and then she went to France to try to gain access to Russia. Both times they told her to keep up the communist message in the U.S. and they wouldn't let her immigrate. She started the school prayer thing in Baltimore when she enrolled her oldest son in school after returning from France. She went ballistic when she walked by a classroom and heard kids praying.

The Soviets worked with and financed a lot of the CP USA's actions. Mostly, because they were hoping to gain valuable intelligence from the members. Plus, it didn't hurt that they were trying to undermine the US government.
But, virtually no member of the CP USA would have been welcomed in the Soviet Union. They tended to view the western hippies/beatniks/intellectuals as crackpots.... which they were. The CP USA was merely exploited as tool by the Soviets, nothing more.

I agree with you on that statement. That's why MMO was told to keep working in the US to undermine us.

I have ZERO respect for MMO, her successor organization, or anything she stood for. She argued that the United States violated her rights by allowing prayer in schools, becasue she was an atheist. She tried to pretend like she was not anti-Christian/Believer, but was merely standing up for her rights. If that had been the case, I would have disagreed with her position, but could have listened to her side and taken her seriously.
However, as her flirtations with the Soviet Union show, she was in fact actively hostile towards any expression of faith. The Soviet Union was far more repressive to believers than the US ever DREAMED of being to atheists. Her goal was to stamp out faith at any cost..... and that is when I have BIG problems with you.

I have the book her oldest son wrote and he was the one in middle school when she started the prayer thing. Her son became a Christian later on. Her youngest son always remained loyal to her and they were held hostage and killed in a motel on Fredericksburg Rd. in San Antonio before being buried in the Hill Country.

My family and friends always asked me how I could shoot someone else, especially when I was in the Marines.
It's this simple, "sight allignment is correct when the front sight post is centered, both vertically and horizontally, with the rear sight aperature(sp)"
In other words, gun control, to me, is a well placed shot.
By the way, before I get hammerred in this one, I have never physically harmed another human being as an adult. But I would, if they were going to harm someone else.

The people who ask how you could shoot somebody else have never had somebody else shoot at them or want to harm them. It's not a hard decision to make when you feel threatened.
Part 2 is that you're going to shoot first and ask questions later on. You don't always know who the enemy is and that's how you get friendly fire.
When I was in New Jersey, I was looking at everybody who walked or ran by the night of the attack. I was asking myself if I should engage them or shoot or if they were friendlies.

Lonny, I heard from my kid that is over in Afghanistan in the Army two nights ago. He said it's beginning to get rough over there. The Taliban are beginning to panic as they see the end of their reign and they have really stepped up the ambushes and roadside bombs. He get's out of there in mid May. All you guys and gals prayers are appreciated.
The other kid in the Army is still recruiting in SE Texas, but he hates it and will return to the infantry in a year and a half when this 3 year assignment runs out. He is going to take the "BIG" re-enlistment and get the big bonus and enlist for the full 20 year deal. He says that he wants to go back to the infantry because he misses blowing stuff up........damn I love that kid.:D

Yeah, I believe that because I say that's what happening in Iraq right now. The guys over there don't want to lose power and fight with everything they have.
I had to drive a HMMWV through a crowd waiting for a politician back in 2003 in Afghanistan. We were locked and loaded, but I sure had to watch out for a lot of people.
It's not easy to stay away from the ambushes and IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices or roadside bombs).
