Thank you NFL for expanding the horse collar rule to include the jersey! Now, as for that....Roy Williams is officially out of a job and Clinton Portis won't almost have his spine snapped in half each and every sunday....

Yeah but I am pissed because they are banning TD celebrations and I am a big fan of those because I really enjoy them alot and guys like Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, and TO always have some kind of celebration up their sleeve and they are funny ones.

Well, it's not like they banned them completely....but this can still be reversed I believe next year so it's not like the sun isn't commin' up in the morning. But as much as I love some of the celebrations (especially Owens and the star) some of them were beginning to get to be too much.

Yeah I think that Johnson kinda went over the line with the proposal celebration.

Why don't we just wrap the players in bubble wrap and have them wear flags so nobody gets tackled and has to go get a band-aid for their little boo boos.
What a freakin' joke. Once again the NFL shows why it has earned the nickname "No Fun League". This is a brutal, physical game. Nobody is out there to be nice. If you don't like that, go watch bowling.
What's next... two below. What a joke. The world is being over-run by pansies and the ultimate contact sport appears to be infected.

JTK, they just issued two rules protecting players from
1) breaking their spine
2) destroying the most important player's knees
Now, I take satisfaction in seeing a safety just knock the crap out of a reciever....but when it gets to be the kinda of harm of breaking your spine/back and destroying your knee. I think there needs to be some rules against it.

How many spines have been broken? More players have been paralized in a head on hit than a horse collar tackle.. should we ban that too? It is a pansy rule.

A well placed shoulder pad to the small of the back (perfectly legal tackle mind you) is far more dangerous and could do far more damage than any horse collar type tackle.
There is a certain amount of risk those guys take every time they put the pads on. It is a very dangerous job with many risks, but that's why these guys are paid what they are.
I understand the need to protect players, but I think this crosses the line from protection to weakning the game just a bit. As seguin said... How many players have ever had their backs broken by a horse collar tackle? The most graphic injury I have ever seen as a result of such a tackle was when the Cancer's leg was broken by Roy Williams. If the NFL wants to change the game to prevent things like broken legs, they should let me know now so I can plan to just sleep really late on Sundays.

Guys JTK & Seguin are right, this is football, it as a contact sport & you can get hurt. These rules do suck, you might as well put a skirt on these players if they keep this up.

You mean they will just have to play football:eek: Oh my God, players actually doing what they are paid to do and act like adults at the same time:eek: I say ban the NFL:rolleyes:

If you can't be entertained by watching a good football game without the BS over the top celebrations then maybe you should go watch the circus.;) This forum's biggest section is on high school football and everyone seems to be entertained by the quality of football played and not what kind of celebration antics that go on when a player makes a great play. I think the focus on sports has changed from wanting to watch true athletic ability to worring about what silly dance or act some egomaniac players are gonna provide for us when they do their job. I am old school and don't see things the way you younger guys do so I am tickled that they are trying to limit that flashy crap and concentrate on playing the game. Remember you can protest by not watching if you can't enjoy it.

I`m sure Roy will survive, he hurts many people facing them, there taking his from behind art out (for now), now you just dive at their ankles, with your forearm, or shoulder, and rupture their achilles!:D

No what they do is not what I call a very dangerous job. I call being a police officer, or in some cases a teacher a very dangerous job. I call being in the military and fighing for our country a very dangerous job. I even thing fighting Houston traffic like I do everyday makes my job a very dangerous one.:D But none of these professions get paid nearly what football players do. But that is different topic all together......;) :D

Full Pads flag football is what the NFL is turning into. WA WA now Portis won't almost break his spine. You act like he is the only one. Roy Williams isn't the only one that does this AND Roy Williams hits more people head on than he does from behind. So quit crying. The NFL isn't even going to be fun to watch anymore. You can't TOUCH a reciever, no celebrations, no horse collaring. Next it will be no stiff arms, no truckin' people, no diving, and you can't jump because you might land wrong.

Of course Portis isn't the only one...you forgot Brunell on Monday night:p . The one team I saw that did the horse collar alot was the Dallas Cowboys and I never saw any other team do it as much as they did.

Roy Williams hasn't broken spines or knees with the horse collar tackle.( TO's injury was above the ankle)
Get your facts straight. I'm sure you would feel the same if Sean Taylor was involved. Oh yeah, his trouble is OFF of the field.

I agree, with the QB's being way overprotected, the rules committee might as well surround the pocket in tackling dummies and just let the QB tear up the secondary within that protection.
By the same token, I don't agree with some of the hits a QB takes after the ball is gone. It's crazy! There are so many times when the ball is gone, and here comes a hit out of nowhere.
I say, 1) no more throwing the ball away to avoid a hit- I never saw Jim Brown or Earl Campbell toss the ball in order to avoid a hit
2) no more hipslides... see above
3) once the ball is gone, the QB is just like a punter, They are exposed to injury, so don't hit/ or run into them, unless you get a piece of the ball, or they are still in possession of the ball

DITTO!!!!
Once the QB crosses the line of scrimmage he is fair game. They keep trying to take the defense out of the game. If you want high scoring all the time watch Arena Football.

Thankfully no one's spines have been broken. But if you just look at how Roy Williams tackled Portis in the second game this past year, you'll see that his back was in serious danger of being injured.

anytime Roy Williams or any other player tackles in the NFL, you are in serious danger. Put on a dress and grab some pom-poms, or get out on the field and make some plays...

When you chase someone are you usually in front of them? Are you saying that defenders have to pass the player they are chasing so they can tackle them from the front? Not gonna happen my friend. Maybe they should go play flag football.
You use the term "duh" alot, for some reason that doesn't surprise me;)
