View Full Version : Worst 5a town in Texas

OK, here is a conversation starter. What 5a town in Texas would you LEAST like to live in? I chose 5a because a town with a 5a school should theoretically be large enough to have some nice stuff, entertainment, etc. Plus, as 5a fans, we probably know these towns better than the smaller ones.
My top 5 list, from worst to better:
1. Eagle Pass. If you have been there, you know why. Eagle Pass has no scenery, a miserable climate, is one of the poorest communities in the USA, and was ranked the most corrupt town in Texas a few years back by Texas Monthly. The place is a dump.
2. Rio Grande City. Sort of like Eagle Pass, but closer to the beach. Better weather, more rain.
3. Laredo. At least they have paved the streets and gotten some decent restraunts. NAFTA has been (mostly) kind to Laredo, although the drug war raging minutes away in Nuevo Laredo is troublesome.
4. Aleif. Just a scary place. At least it is close to Houston, so you can find some things to do. Just try not to get shot trying to leave.
5. Austin. Why? One word-- hippies! The place is crawling with them. You can hear all of Guadalupe street hitting the bong collectively from I-35. If they all left, it would be the best place in the state. Unfortuantely, that won't happen. Plus, you can't trust anything in a skirt in Austin--- you never know what they are hiding underneath.

just say Southlake. I know that is what you meant by the post. By the way your upstanding behavior was really shown when you accused a bunch of 15-18 year old kids of cheating without any tangible evidence.

you can say that for just about any military town...Harker Heights included..lol
When I was at Ft. Hood, the only think Harker Heights was know for was the "Red Barn" drive in Liquor store.

You are probably in a better position to answer this question then anybody I know since you have been to nearly every town in Texas. ;)
I, however have not lived in but three 5A towns. So I really don't think I am in much of a postition to give an educated answer. All I know is I love the 5A town I live in and I belong there. Every town in Texas has it's good points so I would rather concentrate on those rather than the bad ones anyway.
Besides the worst towns are the little speed trap towns. :p ;) (not that I have to ever worry) :D

I think Taylor is the worst little speed trap in Texas.
theres no better speed trap than the one in Los Fresnos on your way to South Padre island..

You'll never know what I'm thinking when it comes to this board. I wasn't going to say your town and chose not to say anything because I know people can and will be upset. With me, the possibilities are only limited by the fact that there are 245 5A teams. I've been to the towns and just don't want to say.

The only ticket I've ever gotten in this state was on 281 going from Jacksboro to Mineral Wells. I've had warnings in Mt. Pleasant and between Plainview and Amarillo on I-27. My dad got a ticket in Zavalla. I've never been stopped going out of Los Fresnos, in Converse, or around Taylor.

Thanks, that's why I started a name a town in Texas thread one time and RedRage00 came up with a few podunks I hadn't been to. I ended up going to 1 or maybe both of the towns he listed. They were little communities. They weren't even incorporated towns.

That is enough man. Don't follow lonny around because he said something bad about your precious SLC. Some people on this board find it VERY annoying when you attack people.
Just because lonny decided he did not want to comment does not mean he thought of SLC, he just DID NOT FEEL LIKE COMMENTING because he did not want to hurt anyones feelings. This is understandable because if people from any other area are 1/8 as protective when it comes to their city/HS he would get his head chewed off.

You aren't lying about live oak... place is hell to drive through. Also, I76 from McQueeney through Marion to Cibilo/Schertz/Converse is one huge speed trap... I hate it.

No problems for me in Live Oak, either. Selma had a real reputation for years and even had a cafe that talked about the speed trap. Somebody wrote a song about Selma.:eek:

i am old enough to remember the days before i35 and converse was one of several speed traps my dad always had bad words to say about.

Alot. Considering its only a 7 year old school, and has a win percentage of about 70%, id say not bad. Heights was real good in football a few years ago, but we have been declining.

Lubbock is a BORING town. If Tech wasn't there, it would be even worse! There is not much support for the 5A schools. Frenship is getting most of the growth, and it is still 4A.

I don't care. Just because he has called you loudmouthed and then said the town he didn't want to mention had loudmouthed fans doesn't mean he was talking about SLC. SLC is not the only place with loudmouth fans. Besides, this is worst 5A town in texas...

Well to me crying would be when you sayin Coves football season was a fluke and they had an easier road through the playoffs and its still a joke when our baseball team is now 4-1 in district...

I figured you'd come on here to try to bait me. It won't work. I have nothing against the town of Southlake. I like how all of the schools use Dragons as their nickname.

I didnt say fluke. I said they are not a power house. Cove's the school thats always above average and great once ever 5 years. They are a good football school, they are just not the "power house" that alot of Coves fans claim they are.

For my money, it takes being great more often than once every 5 years to be a powerhouse.
