2011 Harlingen Cardinals are looking for their 3rd 10-0 regular season finish. Lost some starters but have decent returning team in key positions for up coming season.

Key returning players.

QB Kevin Ledesma
RB Brian Blake
WR Omar Hunter
?/DB C. Powers

.....and playmaker Randy Bermea who could have a great year.

Good luck Cardinals 2011.

Replacing some of the OL and DL is gonna be huge for this team. Along with the ones you mentioned WR Cisneros #4 I believe is returning also. I believe he is the wr who caught the two td's in the united playoff game. He is quick and has great hands. Safety Daniel Ramirez #7 is returning too. He is big and loves to hit and one of our best defensive players. Nathan Prado is a lb that is coming back. Last year he was a soph who made all-valley. Harlingen is expecting much from those two defensive players this season. I keep hearing a lot about two younger kids named maysonett and justice ortega. I guess we will have to wait to see about these two but I hear they are gonna be tough. Bermea's younger brother is another one who is getting talked about too. Apparently he doesn't have his brothers speed but I hear he likes to hit. Always a prerequisite for a Gomez led defense. All in all, things looks promising in Cardinal land for this coming season as a lot of our playmakers are returning. Like I said, the OL and DL are gonna be key for this team.

Also, on a side note, congrats to Randy Bermea for placing 2nd in the 110hurdles and 3rd in the 300hurdles at the state track meet. His time in the 300 was the 4th fastest in the nation. Kudos to that kid. All the hard work pays off and just think how good he can be next year as a sr. Congrats. :notworthy

I hear add Grant Gorman back at kicking after missing last year. This is what Cardinals need to complete a lacking area. Cardinals may have missed fourth round due to extra point miss. This is good news.

I hear Gorman is back also. It certainly would be an added boost to the team if he can kick like he was doing before he left.

This year Harlingen better come ready to play every week. People are watching this year. The pressure is there. Let's see how Harlingen responds. I always like Harlingen's chances but this is a different kind of pressure. I think Harlingen will do great. Let's go Cards.

Last years team was a Question mark after losing Mingo and most of the offensive line. They filled in the pieces real well and put another great season together. I see the same this year, fill in a few area's on both lines and we have a good team. This year looks more promising than last years from what I have heard. Sure hope its a great injury free year.

Yea. With Ledesma, Bermea, Cisneros and Bubba coming back the offense will be ready to go as long as the OL gels pretty quickly. The Defense, well Gomez always has a plan with the defense. It should be speedy as well but will need to work on the tackling and angles. With Daniel Ramirez coming back at safety he will bring much needed leadership to a defense that will need to bring the hits week after week.

I really do agree with you though. I hope it's a great year also. Go Cards!

Gomez team = A hard hitting defense, yes things are looking up.

BOOM!

Congrats, Cards. You really showed the whole state something tonight. I'm watching my Cardinals from Poland and will be the whole season. I'm especially impressed with the way we pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps after early mistakes and going down big. In the past, that 2nd int and TD would have been the end for a valley team.

As for the Cards.....Way to go!!!! Huge win for the program and it was a great game to watch in person. The Cards played with heart and pulled out a close one. I too was impressed with the way the Cards fought back. Previous years and they would have hung their heads and said "Here we go again..." Major props to the Harlingen players for never giving up. Up next is edinburg. No letdowns. Let's go.

Very disappointed with our District for the next 2 years along with only 1 good out of valley predistrict game. San Benny is san benny and for the fans and media, the Battle has to be played. It really hampered us not having the greypups in our district. With that said, it's back to work time for Harlingen and the Cards have to play the hand they were dealt. No pun intended. :D Hopefully the new crop of players can blend together well with the returning starters and add another DC to the trophy case. It's time to consistently beat the SA squads and show that the Cardinal program is one to be dealt with year in and year out. Go Cards. Work Hard. :heli:

Their inaugural game was versus Laredo Cigarroa. Rittiman came over from Reagan or Madison and turned this group into a feisty team and know they are underdogs wherever they play because of the new school. Mokry just graduated, pretty good QB. Qualified for state 7 on 7, so that shows they are a very experienced passing team. They will look to another QB in the growing process for the 2012 campaign. Defense is never taken lightly as they come from one of the better defensive minded district of 26. They can change the offense and defense depending on who shines during the summer besides the sun.

Mokry would NEVER pass the ball during the actual season. I think he averaged more than 20 carries a game and he was one of two 1,000 yard rushers on the team last year. Johnson is a running team through and through. They'll probably throw the ball more this year since the coaches son will be taking over. The O-line is easily the biggest weakness on the team, although they do have a pretty good RB. Overall they will be pretty young, just like Harlingen.

The Cardinals should get into some 7 on 7 action. Work some things out. But I'm not exactly sure if Gomez wants to run more or pass more with the new QB. Ive known Cruz for a couple of years now, and he does have that RB ability that the others have had in speed, quickness, and mobility. You never know, United and Harlingen may meet in State 7 on 7, with United being the favorite because of the skilled perssonel but new secondary.
