Am I just crazy, or is the ranking of SA Churchill over Judson in 265a in Dave Campbell's simply nuts. I know the magazine is not the Texas HS football bible and is very political, but come on. Having Churchill ranked at #10 in the state is a bit of a stretch too right. Please someone educate me so I don't think I'm losing my freakin' mind.

There was a similar post a little while back on this subject. Dave's poll is to sell magazines and hype his Classic in the Alamodome. If you will notice he has 3 Top 10 teams competing in the Classic with Churchill, La Marque, and Boerne.

I think Churchill has more of a chance now than ever to beat Judson. Judson's getting a new school and losing some of its coaches.

Dave is definitely doing it to sell magazines.

My thoughts on the Chargers is that they fell on hard times after being good and Judson routinely beat them by 20-40 points. I don't know if the Rockets took them light last year or Churchill was just that good, but the Rockets had to gut out a 4th quarter to win 28-14. It was the hardest win of the year.

Dave thought Churchill would be good last year because they had Fanuzzi as a sophomore and he was supposed to be the QB. They had another senior QB, and he ended up starting the year with Fanuzzi at RB. Fanuzzi got hurt and there's no reason to think he's better than the last guy, since he didn't start at QB with both around. Fanuzzi couldn't do enough as a freshman to keep Judson from totally blowing them out in a season when the Rockets run defense was a sieve.

Carl Padilla does the rankings and for some reason it seems like he has ties to Churchill.

Here's how I handicap 26-5A when playing Judson. Lee, MacArthur, and Reagan haven't come close to showing anything that says they'll beat Judson. I guess Roosevelt and Churchill might have a chance in some years, but since it never happens, I can't say it will start. Madison doesn't usually match what they do in Non-District, but they beat Judson enough that I know it can happen, but won't in most years. SV is a complete tossup and both teams are equally capable of winning.

Thanks guys. I didn't mean any disrespect to Churchill, so I hope Churchill fans don't see it that way. I agree, anything can happen. I just thought there was some info I was not aware of.

The bottom line on Churchill is that you can't pick them in front of Judson or SV. The same goes for Roosevelt and Madison. Dave used to always pick Mt. Pleasant in the playoffs because they were going to go every year whether they were 5-5 or 7-3. It didn't matter who played on any of the other teams because Mt. Pleasant was always going to play better in district and find a way to make the playoffs. Even at 1-4 one year, I expected the Tigers to play their way into the playoffs and they did. You have to have Judson and SV in some form of 1-2 every year until somebody else can prove they'll win playoff games or those 2 teams stop playing in December. You look like a fool for taking a consistent no-playoff team over a state semifinalist and perennial contender in pre-season rankings. During the regular season, I totally agree with bypassing Judson and SV if they're not matching up, but it's crazy to think they'll fall off without seeing a game.

Dave has been smoking the wacky weed. It will be Judson, SV and Madison, I don't know what order but Churchill will finish number 4. Churchill again will play both at Judson and SV so I think they will lose those two for sure.

What gets me about Fanuzzi is that he was supposed to be a top guy last year and I don't remember him doing anything special the year before as a freshman. When Gary Green was at Madison, I didn't forget him between 2002 and 2003. He stood out and I knew to watch him when he was a senior.

Fanuzzi had an older borther that ripped us apart, hes a cut off the block last year he got hurt but he was the reason they beat clark. He is going to be a very good player.

Hey, isn't your picture at the bottom the run where Kyle started juggling the ball and still took it to the house 60 yards later? That was the best play of the game against O'Connor.

That brings to mind when people say, "We would've won if they hadn't had so many big plays. What they forget is that without the huge plays, the other team might've still drove it down the field. Big plays are the result of good blocking and good blocking almost always moves the chains.

Some of the people associated with that mag has children at Churchill. That is the sole reason they are even in the top 10 ranking. These kids must be planning on attending UT, because they get the same hype.

I thought Padilla was associated with Churchill. I could be wrong, though.

yeah! whats up with Winston having schools named after him.SV played them for the 1st time ever last year, and i have to admit it was a little wierd seeing that slant on England. But,they did have an awsome half time show, that was very much USA military.WE won 22-0,it was our 1st district game of the year. The next week we had our arses handed to us by Judson.Hopefully we can repay them in there back yard this time.

I think Padilla is from the valley.
