Ian Kinsler - 2B - Rangers

Rangers manager Buck Showalter officially named Ian Kinsler his starting second baseman on Saturday.
Kinsler is batting .238/.347/.548 with one steal in four attempts. He could finish with 12-15 homers and steals if he keeps his starting job all year. Mark DeRosa should never emerge as a threat. Mar. 25

Adam Eaton - S - Rangers

Adam Eaton pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a minor league game without incident on Saturday.
Eaton, who missed his start Friday with a bruised elbow, is scheduled to throw 75-80 pitches in a game Wednesday. That will put him in line to start the second game of the season against the Red Sox. Mar. 25

Brad Wilkerson - OF - Rangers

Dr. Lewis Yocum detected no structural damage in Brad Wilkerson's shoulder during an examination on Saturday.
Wilkerson is flying back to Texas to undergo an MRI and be examined by Dr. Keith Meister. "Obviously we'll see what Dr. Meister says," GM Jon Daniels said. "But at this point, I'm optimistic that it doesn't seem to be a significant problem. It's something we can take care of and get him back." Mar. 25

Mark Teixeira - 1B - Rangers

Mark Teixeira had his first multihit game since March 2 on Sunday, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a win over the Brewers.
Counting his 0-for-15 in the WBC, Teixeira went hitless in 26 at-bats after picking up two hits in his first game of the spring.

SVite

Scott Feldman - R - Rangers

Scott Feldman picked up a save versus the Brewers by pitching a scoreless ninth on Sunday.
Feldman has allowed two runs -- one earned -- in 6 2/3 innings to remain in contention for a bullpen spot. Since the Rangers will want to continue evaluating some of their more veteran pitchers, the 23-year-old will probably head to Triple-A initially. Still, he'll spend considerable time in the majors before the season is over. Mar. 26

Ron Mahay - R - Rangers

Rangers reassigned LHP Ron Mahay to minor league camp.
Mahay will earn $1.1 million even if he spends the entire season in the minors, another present from former GM John Hart. The Rangers might choose to trade him at some point, even though they'd have to eat the majority of his salary in order to do so. Mar. 26

Brad Wilkerson - OF - Rangers

Brad Wilkerson received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder Sunday and is expected to be out of the lineup until Wednesday at the earliest.
It's not a great sign that Wilkerson's shoulder has required two cortisone shots and Opening Day still isn't here, but with no structural damage present, it doesn't seem like there's anything here that he won't be able to work through. It's probably more likely that he'll be limited at times again this season than it is that he'll miss any large chunks of time. Mar. 26

Hank Blalock - 3B - Rangers

Hank Blalock left Sunday's game after three at-bats because of a stiff back.
Blalock is again day-to-day. He's also had some difficulties with a sore throwing arm this spring. Mar. 27

David Dellucci - DH - Rangers

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers have been shopping David Dellucci around the league.
As usual the Rangers have plenty of hitters, so if they could swap Dellucci for a valuable starting pitcher they'd be wise to do so.

As usual the Rangers have plenty of hitters, so if they could swap Dellucci for a valuable starting pitcher they'd be wise to do so.

They don't have nearly enough depth in the outfield to do so. Injuries have already run there course on this outfield, and the season asnt started.

Gary Matthews Jr. - OF - Rangers

Gary Matthews Jr. (ribs) will likely begin the year on the disabled list.
Matthews reportedly "had a good day" Monday, but with the Rangers' roster crunch they'll be cautious with his timetable. Mar. 28

SVite
03-28-2006, 10:38 AM
Laynce Nix - OF - Rangers

Laynce Nix homered twice, doubled and drove in seven runs in a loss to the Mariners on Monday night.
The double just missed being his third homer, hitting high off the wall in left-center. Nix had been 8-for-42 with one homer entering the night. He's fanned 13 times, but he's yet to walk in a spring training contest. It remains possible that he'll be optioned to Triple-A, though Gary Matthews Jr.'s injury has given him a greater chance of remaining with the Rangers. Mar. 28

Edinson Volquez - S - Rangers

In what was likely his last chance to make a case for a rotation spot, Edinson Volquez gave up six runs in three innings Monday night against the Mariners.
Volquez did bounce back after all six runs scored in the first, but it's probably not going to be enough. If they stay within the organization, the Rangers will probably pick R.A. Dickey as their fifth starter. Mar. 28

SVite

John Wasdin - R - Rangers

According to MLB.com, right-hander John Wasdin has been placed on waivers by the Rangers.
Wasdin had a 10.64 ERA in 11 innings this spring. Should he clear waivers, the Rangers will likely try to re-sign him to a multiyear deal. His departure makes it likely that Rule 5 pick Fabio Castro will stick with the Rangers. Mar. 28

Erubiel Durazo - DH - Rangers

Rangers released designated hitter Erubiel Durazo.
We seriously doubt Phil Nevin will outhit Durazo this year, but the Rangers made their choice weeks ago and there wasn't going to be many at-bats available for Durazo coming off the bench. Durazo will make his way to another AL team, though he probably won't be a starter right away. The Orioles and Rays probably have the greatest need of him.

R.A. Dickey - R - Rangers

R.A. Dickey pitched the final two innings Tuesday and allowed two runs against the A's.
He gave up three hits and walked three. Despite the short outing, Dickey could still be the favorite to act as the Rangers' fifth starter. Juan Dominguez didn't help himself today. Mar. 28

SVite

Juan Dominguez - S - Rangers

Juan Dominguez lost to the Athletics after surrendering four runs over four innings on Tuesday.
All four runs scored in the third. "He had one inning that got away from him but otherwise he pitched OK," manager Buck Showalter said. "His command and walks were a bit of a problem. It seemed like when he really reached back, his command suffered." Since his velocity has been down a bit this spring, the Rangers were asking him to really reach back. That he didn't take a step forward may officially put him out of the mix for a rotation spot. Mar. 28

03-29-2006, 08:39 AM
C.J. Wilson - R - Rangers

C.J. Wilson, who has been troubled by sore shoulder soreness, gave up four runs while facing just five batters Tuesday in a minor league game.
Because of the shoulder and a hamstring injury that limited earlier this srping, Wilson might begin the year on the DL or get optioned to the minors. That'd be good news for Erasmo Ramirez, who is out of options. Mar. 28

Juan Dominguez - S - Rangers

Rangers optioned RHP Juan Dominguez and RHP Edinson Volquez to Triple-A Oklahoma; reassigned RHP Jose Silva to minor league camp.
This leaves R.A. Dickey as the last man standing in the fifth-starter competition. The Rangers only plan to use a fifth starter three times during April, so it may work out OK. As a knuckleballer, Dickey is better suited to pitching in relief in between starts than Dominguez would have been. Mar. 29

Rangers released RHP John Wasdin.
Wasdin, who was on a non-guaranteed, $600,000 contract, had a 10.64 ERA in 11 innings this spring. Mar. 29

Brad Wilkerson - OF - Rangers

Brad Wilkerson rejoined the starting lineup and homered Wednesday against the Padres.
Wilkerson missed games Friday and Saturday and then had a cortisone shot for his sore shoulder on Sunday, necessitating that he receive three more days off. He'll definitely be in the lineup on Opening Day, though he may be 90 percent, rather than 100. Mar. 29

R.A. Dickey - R - Rangers

The Rangers will open the year with R.A. Dickey as their fifth starter, GM Jon Daniels confirmed today.
Maybe he'll even move up in the rotation as a result of Adam Eaton's injury. Since Dickey will have to battle Ameriquest Field and he'll have a below average defense behind him, he has to be the worst bet among AL starters for fantasy purposes. Perhaps Joe Mays could give him a run for his money. Mar. 29

Adam Eaton - S - Rangers

Adam Eaton suffered a strained tendon on the middle finger of his right hand during his start Wednesday and is scheduled for an MRI.
It's a similar injury to the one that sent Eaton to the DL last June. "Pretty much one pitch, the last pitch I threw," he said. "Similar injury, different tendon. It feels the same, just a different part." Eaton missed six weeks last season before returning as a reliever and later going back on the DL so he could be used as a starter again. Basically, the injury wrecked what looked like a breakthrough season. If this will lead to a similar absence, the Rangers will be in big trouble. A trade of David Dellucci or someone else for additional pitching help would become likely. The internal alternative would likely be Juan Dominguez, who was optioned to the minors today. Mar. 29

Juan Dominguez - S - Rangers

Juan Dominguez, who was sent to the minors before Adam Eaton got hurt on Wednesday, will be recalled to take Eaton's place in the rotation.
It's the best solution, although some may want them to turn to John Danks or Thomas Diamond already. Mar. 30

Vicente Padilla - S - Rangers

Vicente Padilla surrendered four runs and eight hits over six innings Thursday in a loss to the Royals.
Padilla struck out five and walked one. The runs scored on a pair of two-run homers. Padilla ends the spring with a respectable 4.32 ERA. The Rangers will be relying on him a great deal with Adam Eaton gone. Mar. 30

Mark Teixeira homered in a second straight game Thursday against the Royals.
Following a frigid start, Teixeira is 6-for-16 with five extra-base hits over his last four games. Mar. 30

Adam Eaton - S - Rangers

Adam Eaton is considering surgery on his right middle finger and is expecting to miss the first three months of the season.
Eaton spoke after being examined by Dr. Don Sheridan, a Phoenix hand specialist, on Thursday. He is going to get a second opinion, but he has been told he'll likely be out three months. "Hopefully three months and I'll come back healthy," Eaton said. "It's just something I'll have to deal with. It's disappointing but it's obviously an injury I couldn't prevent." Mar. 30

Josh Rupe, sidelined since March 13 with an inflamed elbow, received a cortisone injection this week.
Exploratory surgery would become an option if the cortisone doesn't take care of the soreness. Rupe will begin the year on the DL. Mar. 30

Laynce Nix - OF - Rangers

With David Dellucci going from Texas to Philadelphia, the Rangers will likely go with Laynce Nix as their Opening Day center fielder.
Brad Wilkerson should slide to right, putting Kevin Mench back in left field. Regular playing time for Nix may only last until Gary Matthews Jr. comes off the DL, but if he's finally ready to play up to his potential, the Rangers will keep using him against right-handers.

Antonio Alfonseca - R - Rangers

Rangers purchased the contracts of RHP Antonio Alfonseca, OF Adrian Brown and INF D'Angelo Jimenez.
Alfonseca finished strongly, allowing one run in his final five innings of the spring. Brown claims a spot because of the David Dellucci trade, but he may only be around until Gary Matthews Jr. comes off the disabled list. The Dellucci trade also makes it more likely that Jimenez will keep his job for the long-term, though he's hardly going to have much to do unless Ian Kinsler gets off to a lousy start. Apr. 2

Jake Blalock - OF - Rangers

Outfielder Jake Blalock was traded from the Phillies to the Rangers in a three-player deal.
Jake joins big brother Hank in the Texas organization, but it's unlikely they'll be on the same field anytime soon. Blalock's stock slipped during a /279/.359/.388 season in the Florida State League in 2005, and Phillies left him available in the Rule 5 draft. His power should come back in Double-A this year, but it's not a very good bet that he'll emerge as a regular.

Francisco Cordero blew his second save of the season when he was charged with four runs while retiring just one batter in the ninth inning against the Mariners tonight.
Now we're starting to get worried. In a 6-4 game, Cordero hit Ichiro Suzuki to start the ninth and followed by allowing a double to Jose Lopez and a sacrifice fly to Raul Ibanez. A Richie Sexson single then tied the score at 6-6, and Cordero was pulled after one more single to Kenji Johjima. C.J. Manager Buck Showalter said after DeRosa got hurt that Jimenez would play regularly, but this is two days off in a row, all apparently because Drew Meyer had two singles in Friday's outburst. Jimenez, so far, has made nine starts, the vast majority of them in road games against tough pitchers. The complete list: Josh Beckett (his only start during the first week and his only start in Arlington), Jeff Weaver, Kelvim Escobar, Barry Zito, Rich Harden, Dan Haren, Felix Hernandez, Jamie Moyer and Joel Pineiro. Last time I checked they lose because of pitching in most cases.

They have NO power this year. Lee's 28 Hr's will be helpful here and it will be interesting to see where he will be playing in the upcoming future. Buck announced today that lee will start tonight, and Cruz will be playing RF tommorrow.
Cordero needed to go. If for nothing else, the majority of fans hated him. Nix has never proved that he can hit at the major league level. Once he can do that, then he will become a solid role player. And Mench is just way to inconsistent. He seems to be getting hot right now. But you cant afford to have him when he is in a slump.
Overall the deal seems pretty good for both team. JD and Hicks made this trade with the intention to resign Lee. I dont think they wouldnt have made it if they didnt think it would happen. And Cruz is also a good young prospect/player.
