------------

OK Jag fans I have been waiting for someone to start a team fan thread to just talk about the upcoming 2011 season.

What are your thoughts on the 2011 team and its potential??

Offensive returning starters/saw playing time 2010?
Defensive returning starters/saw playing time 2010?
Special Teams returning starters/saw playing time 2010?

Lets get to it!

GO JAGS!!!!

it's about time this thread got started. I have been curious about this team due to their performance last year.

So far The Horn Jags have about 11 returning starters that are on the DWF super list.
Horn should have the same if not more speed than last years Qtr finalist team.
Horn returns the core of the offensive line avg around 6-2 260lbs, starting running back, and 2 of the areas fastest wide outs recently clocked at 4.3 in the forty yard dash.
On defense Horn will return a veteran secondary and linebacking core but will be in the hunt for solid replacements on the defensive line.
Horn special teams is looking sweet as well returning one of the states best kicker/punter (top 10 on Max preps)

If Horn puts in the work and gels as it did in 2010, look for Horn to challenge Longview and possibly Desoto for the 11-5a crown and make another deep run into the 2011 playoffs.

Mesquite Horn is officially starting its 2011 season next week August 19, in a scrimmage vs. Carrollton Creekview.

There is a lot of action at Mesquite Horn during the first week of preseason.
Headlining:
(2011 Junior) Dru Smith the new transfer from a neighboring private school looks like he may be edging out (2011 Soph) Destri White for the starting QB spot at Horn. Smith, playing a lot like past seasons QB (Collin Strahan) will be supported by a veteran O-line and a good trio of wide outs..
The defense is coming along but may not be as strong as the past season.
The hopes are high for a good scrimmage and no injuries against Creekview.
The season opener with nationally ranked Coppell Cowboys will be August 26th at Mesquite Hanby Field.

Can't forget Horn's Linebackers! Are they all coming back?

We graduated (2 of 3) but have a monster returning at Sam LB in Lovett 6-2 225. He will be supported by second team A.D. Chip Jones 5-11 210, DJ Green 6-200.
Our secondary will be much improved from last years but the weak link will be the D-line (IMO). Hope I am wrong. :)

As of Saturday 8-13-11 I was told White is asserting himself ahead of Smith and the battle for the starting job rages on. Good luck to both!

The WR core of last years super duo in (Shephard and Grant) will be replaced by a trio including preseason All-American invite D. Harris (son of former Phi Eagles WR Rod Harris), Qourtland Charles, and Vincent Hobbs.

I can't wait till the season opener with Coppell.

The current information available is there is no competition at QB and never was a real competition. Destri is the starter because he was there in the spring. Dru may or may not get a chance to play. Not that this is the popular opinion, but it is the one that counts!

Just have to wait and see how it plays out.
