Do yall think that trash talk is necessary? why or why not? and which team/players talk the most smack?

Trash talk is weak. If you have to tell your opponent how good you are, you're obviously not showing him. The most intimidating guys are the ones that say nothing and whip your butt every single play.

unless you are a dick butkus or a deon sanders in his prime and you can back it up 99 percent of the time should you talk a lot of trash. both of those guys talked a whole lot of trash but could back it up. trash talking is part of competition and it will continue to be. personally, i respect the ones that just do it on the field instead of their mouth more and it is sure enjoyable when a trash talker gets to eat his words. unless it is a guy on my team of course. ;)

This is coming from a guy that talked so much smack when we were younger.
I remember a game when we were 13 and playing against each other in baseball. I walked him.....he proceeds to lead off of first and say over and over and over and over again " I'm goin' to 2nd....I'm goin' to 2nd" after I throw over to first about 10 times....no lie......10 times at least...I sail one over the first baseman's head and he gets to second....THEN....
He proceeds to tell me over and over and over and over "I'm goin' to third....hey Wideman....I'm goin' to third..." And after about 10 more pick-off attempts I sling one into center field. He was in my head so freakin' bad. It was a battle of ego's and I lost.

My Mom told me years later...that during all of this ...she went over to the other bleachers and asked his Mom "what are they doing?"......and his Mom said (classic line) "Playing baseball in the front yard" hahahahhahahahahahaha.....

I don't know if you remember that or not Pack0808...but that was classic. We hated to lose sooooo bad....and losing to the other person was the worst....
You won that one though. You rattled me. If you had tried to steal center...I would have nailed you...I threw that thing with everything I had.

steal center?? lol i completely forgot that one but yes i was a little cocky when i played baseball and basketball in little league, hs, and when i played baseball in college but i was not that bad!! i had a quiet confidence more then what you are describing. ok i did a little trash talking. lol i also had a bad temper that i had to work on!! lol oh i could get pissed quickl lol ok back on subject and enough about me and my glory days, i do not mind a little trash talking from players that can back it up. one of my favorite athletes in any sport is larry bird and i have heard it over and over from players that went up against him that he was the worst trash talker of all time. but the vast majority of the time he backed it up. he also did in a way that fans did not even notice and it was not done to show up the other person publically. it was a mano y mano thing between him and guy that was trying to guard him. and i emphasise trying!! ;)

The Hick from French Lick...one of the greatest nicknames and greatest
players of all time. Couldn't agree with you more.

I think your trash talking was intensified because it was me on the mound...you weren't always that cocky...well maybe sometimes.

Steal center?....yeah...if you had tried to steal center I threw a perfect strike to the center fielder...unfortunately you were jogging to third and laughing...and just to clear the air...I struck out the next two batters and you didn't score.

from knowing a lot of the guys, SLC talks a ton. i hear that the whole front seven in the offense (oline, chase, and luna) talked trash every single play.

I don't think there is anything wrong with talking trash during the game. As long as it is not overly disrespectful and does not turn into a fight.

When I played, a lot of players talked trash during the game- It did not bother me - It motivated me.

Also - as long as you are a humble winner.

pack 0808-----you're STILL cocky, brother--LOL.....what's up brother??? as for SLC, if they are trash talking, they can obviously back it up. the ones that trash talk and can't back it up are the ones that i laugh at....for instance, North garland talking plenty of smack in the newspapers and on the field before the game against us last year..........while they were talking, the score was ran up to a tune of 50 or 60 something......so much for the talk, huh????

I have a lot of respect for those who excel without talking trash, but I can't argue with those who do it. You really can gain an advantage and get in somebody's head. Some people do it just to put more pressure on themselves to excel.

ah come on bleed not me?? i am humble!! ;) now i have to be cocky about other teams and players since i am not on the field anymore. :) it is funny that i get mad at some of our lufkin players if they get a little cocky and i am always preaching being humble considering how i was as a player in sport's. hey, but you wise as you get older and at least you learn to at least say the right things. :) like i said, there is nothing wrong with a little smack talking as long as it is not out of control and as long as you can back it up the majority of the time. hey bleed, klein forest did that same thing vs lufkin in 2002 talked complete smack the whole week leading up to the game and at the game. they were undefeated and were the deepest in the playoffs in their history and they thought they were God's and they were talking to the defending state champs as though they were just a bunch of dumb hicks that got lucky the year before. lufkin sent them back to reality real quick. i enjoyed that game!!

i dont mind that trash talking just as long as your a humble winner or loser at the end of the game...trash talking can get a person off guard and used to the other teams advantage..

I know Tyler Lee doesn't talk trash because they know they are just a good football team who will win. Alot of Lufkin Players talk trash at Tyler Lee.

not trying to side with either of you in this argument, but, i will cite 1 thing that pisses me off when we play REL each year..........whether it is at Rose or Lobo Stadium, when our offense is at the end of the field where the REL band is positioned at, the band will blow their instruments wildly as loud as they can right before the ball is snapped to try and get a false start penalty against us.....happens every time we play Tyler Lee---usually works, too...................just my 2 cents worth...............

I've witnessed Judson players talking trash.

I was at a Madison vs O'Connor game last season and there were Judson and Roosevelt players sitting nearby. I was sitting in between them actually. The Judson players just kept going at it with the Roosevelt players. Judson clearly started it and at first Roosevelt wasn't taking the bait and doing a good job of ignoring 'em....but after a while they got tired of it and it was a back and forth situation. I moved because I was not about to be in the middle of a brawl.

Anyway, trash talk is part of the game. Everyone does it. Ok, maybe not Laredo United South :)

yea we do the same thing when were kicking off, play random high pitched notes, and since were right on the field level its even louder to the players i would think

Judson doesn't do a lot of acting and trash talking on the field. They are a lot more likely to do it away from the field. I talked to some of the players at the Adome for a Waco-Abilene game coming off of a title and they weren't cocky. I told them Clemens players were talking trash to me about how they were going to beat Judson (and they did), but the Rocket players didn't seem to be fazed. Talking to various players last year, the guys were secretly cocky. They were all shocked that they got beat, because they didn't think it would happen. That's why you have pictures of guys crying after the game with Westfield.

Those games at Comalander are tough. 6 teams share the field and it's common for Judson, Roosevelt, and Madison to watch somebody else. Then you have to pick a side to sit on and I can almost guarantee that Madison and Roosevelt will sit on Judson's side every time. It's almost like being a little kid by seeing who you can irritate the most. You know Judson is going to sit on Madison's or Roosevelt's side. I was at a game last year and Madison's TE and DE walked in and sat in front of me. You don't know how much I wanted to start in talking trash to them! :p

It's all a ready-made argument that we want to just gig somebody. Everybody rolls in wearing those jackets from another school and we all want to start in on them. I'm no different because I'd wear my Judson 6 time champs t-shirt and sit on Madison's side! :D

You should've moved to San Antonio earlier. That way you could've gone to the football banquet in Jan 03 and bought one of the t-shirts! :D I made sure I bought a sweatshirt for the cold games. :p I even bought a cheap champions t-shirt from a guy outside the dome after the game on the Sunset Station side.

I wasn't born in Converse, but I got there as soon as possible. :D Anybody that lives in that town deserves to be considered a Judson fan. :p

I think trash talk is a way to get into another players head, it works sometimes, but other times it just backfires and they burn you deep for the TD...

of course ive never had this happen..

but there was the time against LD Bell, when the Bell players where talking trash for the intire game, 35-7 Coppell was the final score I think?

That reminds me of the game where the Redskins were beating the Cowboys (and there was only one recently!). Antonio Bryant scored a TD and started celebrating and the 'skins reminded him who was winning.

I've always been of the mindset that a little trash talking is fine just as long as you go out and back it up. And I think this is the way most coaches feel on the subject I could be wrong though .

I went to high school in Mt. Pleasant. I only went to Pine Tree from 2nd to 5th grade. I never did like Pine Tree as a kid, but that might've changed if I'd lived there longer.
