In light of the new pirate craze, I figured this would be a fitting topic for us since we've already run through the Law and Order phase (Chuck Norris), the Chinese singing kids, etc.
If you are unfamiliar with the pirate happenings...go here:

My main reason as to why you shouldn't attack the USS Winston Churchill in a dinghy is simple. Winston's guns are bigger.
As Jon Stewart (I believe) put it..."I wish I could have seen the Churchill fire off the warning shots. What do you suppose the Somali word for 'Holy ****!' is?"

I think they believe because the US won't step foot in their country to stop the Genocide they are committing and also "black hawk down" they thought they could just run rough shot and nothing was going to happen to them. WRONG.

The Rangers that were caught up in The Battle For Mogadishu were mostly from B Co. 3/75th. out of Ft. Benning. I was stationed there at the time, those guys were my friends...good soldiers to the man. They are missed.

If you read the article, it mentions that the Navy was trying to determine which sailors were crew members whose vessel had been hijacked, and which were actually pirates.
In the golden era of piracy in the Carribean, if your ship was seized by pirates, and you still served on the vessel, the British Navy made no distinction. Anyone caught serving on a ship flying the black flag was hung in irons at the entrance to Port Royal harbor, or other local port of call as a warning.
Perhaps a similar warning needs to be given.......

A few years ago I was a fanatic of that movie.....but yeah, the warlords paid the "militia men" drugs in exchange for services.....

This is a tactic in ugly little wars all over Africa. In Somlia the substance is called "qat", it is a leaf that you chew on. In other places the drugs vary, but the principle remains the same. Keep little kids high enough, and you have an endless supply of soldiers. The nasty wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone featured entire battalions of "Kalishnikov Kids".

I guess that is like some pilots taking speed or some Native Americans smoking before a battle.
