I can't pick anyone. In my estimation though, it happens like this:
One team that is kind of midrange in the district gets super fired up. SLC isn't. The stars align, Mercury is in the proper house, all the breaks go one way, and the mediocre team shocks the rest of the state. I wouldn't even be surprised if then SLC went on to a title or a long playoff run. Things just seem to shake out that way in HS football. I can't tell you how many times I have watched my Cardinals screw the pooch on an undefeated, outright district title by losing to a team they should have beaten. Happens everywhere else too. It will to SLC, but it won't be the end of the world.

Hey "stangs",......better check next year's 5-5A realignment again, Fossil Ridge dropped down to 4A......
Regarding the question at hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the new Haltom coach works some magic there and turns that program into a playoff team and some pretty salty competition.

The one who snaps their district win streak will be the one that plays a perfect game that is coupled with a less than perfect SLC game. Bottom line is that to beat them you'll have to be better than just a 'good football team' and SLC will have to have an off night. They are rolling and it will be tough to stop them. Let's face it, Katy, and only Katy can say that they have beaten the best in the last 4 years!

for years gv and slc were in different classes and didn't play(can't blame gv for not wanting the embarrassment of losing to a 3a school), and only had 4 years in the same district. those games were always close and hard fought. chhs is too new and really hasn't found any traction on the gridiron. keller is an older rival, but none compares to coppell, which goes back to the early 60s.

unbeatable? no..but very good and unbeatable in district...appears last year a lot of backups got playing time in blowouts, also when in a good system, you just plug in players

Next year, Southlake will not mess around when it comes to Grapevine. I am predicting that Southlakes wins by at least 30 points. No hating on Grapevine, my best friend went there; but Southlake will have an axe to grind.
I am going to go out on a limb, and predict that Southlake wins all their games next year by at least 25. That includes the state finals. Southlake is circling their wagons like never before, and I've heard of a few players taking some speed training at velocity this summer. Everyone here can throw it in my face if Southlake either loses, or wins any games by less than 25.

for a gv fan, you certainly claim to know more than you do. if you were a player, then you would have seen the films, so that must not be right. if you were a gv fan, you would have been able to see only the po games, so you may not be aware that during most of the reg season rd played about 1/4 of the snaps and did pretty well, with good enough stats to make us old timers jeajous. when you state as facts that which are merely opinions it will often draw someone offsides, and maybe that is your goal.
btw, it is good to see some gv support, as they weren't getting muchlove last few years. now if they can make a playoff again someday, you'll really be able to crow.

If you are refering to Riley, 0 of his yards were from outstanding line play. Although the o-line was tremendous. You would have to watch Riley to understand.
Regarding the secondary and receivers(unsure why this matter), they were all SRs in 06... 07 is a different story.

Like . . . McElroy is slow and will never replace Daniel . . . and . . . Newton is a baby and SLC will never be as good with Luna being gone. McElroy and Newton did just fine (just ask Plano, Lufkin and Katy).
I also remember some of my Grapevine friends disrespecting SLC back in the 3A days when they were winning championships and didn't lose a district game in almost 8 years because they said "SLC never played anybody". Now that SLC has beaten the best of the best you'd think the Gravpvine folks would learn. I guess not . . . at least in this case.
I don't know if SLC will be great again this year but I wouldn't bet against them. Further, most high school teams would love to have a talent like Riley Dodge.

Give me a break. Between the Gerrymandering of your district lines, and your sports facilities; if you work overtime to pay for this, then this is the bed you all made. Come down to the real world like the rest of us, then tell us different. Go visit some of the poor schools then call out the socialism card.
I think you should research what socialism really is before you make this comparison.
This is a long term, real world way to look at it. If Johnny does not get an education, and drops out of school; then Johnny and his friends show up on your door step armed and ready. Also, Johnny; because of lack of education catches a disease and spreads it to us all. Educating Johnny is cheaper than paying for Johnny's health care, or taking care of the cost of Jonny's crime. It is cheaper than paying for a year of Johnny in prison. Also, how about turning Johnny in to a tax payer instead of a drain on the tax system. It is also cheaper to educate Johnny than to have Johnny make 5 little Johnnys who will be continuing the cycle, and further draining the system.
I don't understand Supply sider's short sided narrow point of view on things. I mean come on, if Southlake was more inclusive on the district boundaries; it would be cheaper. You all have paid off, and influence peddled your way through the years with favors to get your district boundaries drew in your favor, that you could have saved money through the years doing things the fair way. Yes, I said fair way. No other district has it as good as you all do as far as average and median income. Also, come on; look at your sports facilities. Need I say more here? That money could have gone a long way in helping people who need it to just get a high school diploma.
I have a challenge for you. Take a look on how much of your tax dollars goes to subsidize corporate welfare, as compared to social wealthfare. I bet you will be surprised. I challenge you to do this. After this, then tell me about Socialism. Also, see how much taxes are paid just to subsidize Walmart workers alone. The same Walmart that Southlake went out of its way, and used exhorbitant resources to kick out of Southlake. I don't like Walmart, or shop there; but it is definately not good enough for Southlake.
I know, you pay high taxes. Well guess what, compared to the rest of us; you see the results of those high taxes. Let us compare Police and Fire response time between Bedford and Southlake. And, I am only 2.9 miles from Southlake.
I am not going to get into anymore on this, as this is a high school football forum. Also, I get into it all the time with my friends. I say come to the real world, contribute to the greater good and If one does not like it; then move to a place where you won't have to pay higher taxes and have top notch schools.

You need a reality check. First off, I lived in HEB so I know what's up over there. Secondly, if you REALLY believe that Robin Hood works then go check out DISD...
You know, the inner city district that OWES ROBIN HOOD ALMOST 50 MILLION THIS YEAR ALONE!!!
The system is BROKEN. My tax dollars, paid in Southlake, aren't helping 'Johnny' get ANYTHING ANYWHERE.
Also, if you think that school funding is going to keep a criminal from becoming a criminal then you need to go take some social dev and social psych classes.. You are sadly, POORLY informed.

Nobody on that list will even get within 30 points
I remember last year before CHHS played Carroll and the CHHS players all week long at lifetime fitness were talking some major smack all week before the game, saying how good they were, and ended up getting run out of their own stadium, and I didn't hear from them for the rest of the year. I guess thats what happens when you play a cupcake non conference schedule like they did. Not being a troll or anything but they really didn't live up to what they told me all week long, and I was rather disappointed in the alma mater boing.

And how much does DISD spend per student as compared to Southlake? What is the dropout rate for DISD as compared to Southlake? See, you are reaping the rewards of your tax dollars. If you lived in HEB, then what is the problem? I don't understand what you are saying.
Do I think school funding helps keep kids off of streets? Heck, Yes! Does it help drop out rates? Heck, Yes! Does it help ensure kids a better future? Heck, Yes! You live in Southlake, you should know. Just do the numbers on anything from crime rate, drop out rate, acceptance into a major university, etc. Then compare this with the amount spent on each kid. There is no denying the correlation.
Again, look at this long term. Do you want a tax payer, or a recipient of public assistance? It is that simple. Also, take my challenge; and compare the amount spent of tax dollars on corporate welfare as compared to Social Welfare. If you want to have even more fun, the throw in tax abatements as well. Even more fun yet? Separate Walmart's tax abatements.

Okay, the most recent Walmart runoff was Colleyville. You all did it I believe sometime in the 90's. I don't see how you are supported almost completely by real estate taxes on private residences, when you have all those businesses such as the one's around the town center area. You have every major department store, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Heck, You guys even have Kincaids (best burgers in Texas,) Are you telling me that Sabre pays nothing? Congratulations... You totally missed the entire point of what I was trying to say.
The point was/is... Look at DISD... One of the WORST districts in the state regarding violent crime, dropout rate, teen pregnancy, etc. THEY pay into Robin Hood LARGE. So explain to me again how Robin Hood isn't more broken than your own silly logic is?
By the way. The success in Southlake *IS* directly related to the wealth. Wealthy people are successful in life for the most part. Of course there are exceptions. Successful people don't drop out of school. Successful people don't commit violent crimes. Once again, there are exceptions to every rule. Almost all of the 'bs' that I hear being spewed from people who 'hate' Southlake is directly related to them being to F'ING LAZY to make their life situation better for themselves. They would rather b*tch about it than take action.

Scoreboard smack is very old. Most fans in the area that root for teams against Carroll go into games expecting to lose and just procede to attack the character of the residents of Southlake and some of the players using opinions represented as facts. It is getting old.
A few of the most active people on the board engaged in this type of behavior earlier this week. It is disgusting.

I couldn't agree with you more. Now come to the real world, where this does not happen. Also, Johnny's parents may care; but have jobs that pay little with no benefits which hamper their ability to get involved. It is going to get worse with the Walmartization of our society. This is not like the old days where one can leave their job to watch Johnny in the school play, meet with teachers etc. My wife is a teacher in a lower class area of HEB, and she experiences it first hand. She even attempts to call employers to allow parents for conferences and other activities; and 98% of the time they will not budge. At first my wife used to think the parents were making excuses, then she tried the calling of the employers approach to no avail.
Like I said, pay a little extra now; or pay a lot more later. Or pay more attention who you vote for when you see who is in the politicians wallet. Has anyone yet looked to see how much we pay for corporate welfare as compared to social welfare. Also, take a look on how much we pay to the welfare of the Iraqis, as compared to our own social welfare.
