Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams reluctantly closed the door on the Vince Young era on Wednesday when he announced the QB will not be on the team's roster next season.

Young, the third overall pick in 2006, spend five often-tumultuous years in Nashville that crested in November when he walked out of the team's locker room on coach Jeff Fisher.

The tension between Young and Fisher helped force Adams to make a decision on the once-rising QB.Vince Young

"Today, I informed our general manager Mike Reinfeldt to move forward with plans to begin the process of identifying the next quarterback for our franchise," Adams said.

"I want to offer my personal thanks to Vince for all of his positive contributions to the club. These kinds of decisions are never easy and this is especially true for this particular player. I certainly wish that things would have worked out better, but I think it is best for the franchise that we move on at this point."

Young will either be released or traded.

Adams did not clarify the status of Fisher, and said he is continuing to evaluate the status of his coaching staff. Fisher, the Titans' coach since 1994, is the NFL's longest-tenured head coach.

Adams, a Houston resident, was close to Young, a product of the Houston area, and had said in November that Fisher and Young would have to work out their differences. Adams sent out a Christmas card last month in which he was pictured with Young.

Young lost his job as the Titans' starter on Nov. 21 after he suffered a thumb injury. Fisher placed him on injured reserve the next day, but had said after the game -- when Young threw parts of his uniform into the crowd -- that the QB would not be his starter even if healthy. Young stormed out of the Titans' locker room after the game.

In 2009, Adams ordered Fisher to insert Young as the team's starter after the Titans lost their first six games.

In five years, Young had a 57.9% completion percentage with 8,098 passing yards, 42 TD passes, 42 INTs, 1,380 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs.

He started 28 games in his first two seasons, but just 19 in his next three.

Looks like VY is having problems maturing.

Vince Young needs to grow up. The best thing for VY is to go to a team that has a proven establish "MATURE" QB and spend a couple of seasons as a understudy. Work on his passing mechanics, reading defensives and most of all how to be an ADULT. I suggest he takes notes of other NFL MATURE QB's like Brees, Brady, Manning, Rivers and several others.

He can do that for a couple of years and hopefully around the 2013 season he can become "NFL COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR."

I also think that he is going to find the NFL suitors pretty tough because those NFL GM's, Owners and Coaches dont want a problem child on the roster and at this moment VY will be looked at as more of the problem child than NFL QB.

GOOD LUCK TO HIM.

gonna join wade and your Kubiak on the Texans I bet.
The "sisters of mercy" team, featuring Wade Phillips as D Coach, Kubiak as HC, and Vince as the problem child.

Gotta say, the drama between the 3 teams is humorous (Cowboys are the 3rd).

Maybe VY can get on a team with Haynesworth, Terrell Ownes, Ricky Pot Williams, Roy Williams, and Chad whateverver his name is now. Talk about a coaches nightmare.

maybe he could be a WR for the Cowboys, Dallas doesn't need one of those. Makes sense, right?

Ding. Ding. Ding! We have a winner!!!!

Until Jerry FULLY understands the damage he does to his team, bringing in "name" players, da boys will not win another Super Bowl. Oh, sure, his boys will be front page, generating revenue, but the team won't win the big one.

IF Jerry can be shown that winning generates as much revenue as controversy......

HERE WE GO!!!!

Young and the Titans are equal parts to blame for this divorce. Young did not put in the required work necessary to be a top level pro quarterback. I don't believe Fisher wanted Young in the first place. How many different coordinators did Young have? Three?

Young needs to play wherever he goes (even if it is just a wildcat package). He can't afford to waste his prime years on the bench. He will need to go to a perfect situation. Mike Tomlin could do wonders with Vince's attitude.

It's about time that VINCE works on Vince's attitude.

Is there some way, that he can do something to take him away from Football for like 6 months? Make him better understand what is available to him, if his attitude is different?

This move is the BEST thing that can happen to Vinnie. My point is, I don't see it getting worse than the mess he helped create in TN.

If he goes to Oakland, I think he is finished.
Miami?? Depending on Coach?
Tomlin? What does Pittsburgh want with him?
I thought the Jets could use him, but they already have Brad Smith.
Denver? I don't see it, with Tebow there.
Does Dungy need to get involved?
What about Carolina?? San Fran? Arizona?

When it comes to PRO Football:

San Antonio = Dallas South.

Houston does not have a team. IF San Antonio ever gets a team, I can't imagine the competition it would have with the Cowboys.

Hasn't Jerry's teams won a Super Bowl?

JJ should have kept that short coach that goes on 'Survivor' and takes wiener enlargement drugs.

Watch it, you're showing your age!

:D

Yes, Dallas has won with Jerry. Almost 20 years ago. I was referring to his present situation.

And Yes, it would have been nice to keep Jimmy. Too much egos for that to EVER last.

At a bargain basement price.

With Kubiak narrowly mising getting sacked I would think that avoiding controversy would be #1 on his to do list.

I think to myself, if you want to set the Texans back 5 years, grab Young.

But you know what? This COULD be a great find, if Schaub were to down with injury. In other words, If Vince can't get motivated in Houston, where CAN he get motivated?

Put him on the other side of Johnson. Get him the ball that way, maybe??

Who isn't finished on arrival at Oakland? Uh, Steelers are happy with Big Ben, thank you. Best VY will get is backup duty and spending his prime years on the bench 90% of the time. Arizona and/or San Fran is plausible. Washington would be good except "Shannaniganhan" is there...

You wont see Vince Young on Coach's Harbaughs 49nr team.

Vince Young needs to find a team that has a QB that is a solid VET and look to ride the pine for a year or two behind him. Learn under him, grow under him and ect.

I wouldnt mind seeing Vince Young on the Texans backup up for a couple of years and seeing what happens. The Texans could also use him much like the JET's use Brad Smith.
