Having been a supporter of the area schools, I was wondering about The Woodlands Special Teams.
We have heard about the offense and how good the defense was going to be next year with everybody returning. What about the special teams? Special teams can win you many games through out the year. Last year, The Woodlands lost to North Shore by 1 point, due to a missed extra point.
Hopefully this year, they won't have any mishaps.
When Mclary, Louis Perez, Fowler, and those guys where in the game, it was automatic and those guys could kick it between the uprights from anywhere. It's just reassuring when you have a good kicker on the field.
Two kickers shared time last year and hopefully a JV or Soph will step up this year.

Yes great point we have an excellent kicker that was injured in the katy and northshore game his name is Derek Depasquale and he has huge potential

Woodz does some different things with their special teams like really not having a punter who can do anything but roll it down the field. I know for a fact they had a kid who could punt it high and deep think he is walking on at SMU, never really got a shot because of what they do. Depasquale was developing but not as good as Lufkin or A & M, hope kids next year get a real shot.
The Woodlands' kicking game will be in very good hands,or should I say feet, with DePasquale. Derek has a very live leg and should keep the woodlands in some tight games this coming season. He keep them in the Conroe game when the offense score. He's on the top prospect list. I think he was 8/8 on F/G's last season, his longest was 42 yds in playoff game. He hit a couple from 55-60 range in practice last spring and he can make extra points.

Well, your NS Mantangs only defeated THW by 1 point in 2005 and Katy won by 3 touchdowns plus over THW. My statement was not literal, it was only intended as a pun.
Lufkin also beat THW 42-17 in 2005 and as the playoffs proved, Katy and Lufkin were the better teams of those four.
THW have not had a powerhouse team since the Danny Amendola years.
There is a difference in what THW think they are and if they can win against top competition. Just playing a tough non-district schedule doesn't make you an automatic playoff contender, just means your playing some recognized 5A programs.
How successful you are in the playoffs are what people remember about your program anyway.

I'm not quite sure if I believe that last part about the 55-60 yards. I know he was struggling to get it over the crossbar on some of the extra points. I'm sure he is accurate but he doesn't have a strong enough leg to kick in college. Do they have a good kickers coach in The Woodlands?
I Don't What Game(s) You Were Watching But He Did Very Well.he Came Back About 2 Weeks Early Off A Knee Injury Last Season. As The Season Went On He Got Stronger. He Has Got Plenty Of Leg To Do The Job Again This Season. Coach Kennedy Is The Sp Teams Coach And He Does A Good Job, Plus Derek Is Always Working With His Dad Who Also Kicked In College. Along With Coaching And The Fact That He Is A Beast In The Weightroom Should Make A Differnce In Some Games This Year.

Who did his dad kick for? Is he going to get a scholarship anywhere?
Just from the couple of games I have seen, he'll be lucky if he goes somewhere small. I thought he had graduated but it helps out that he's coming back. Is that lefty kicker coming back as well? I wonder if they will share time. The lefty seems like he has a stronger leg.

Lefty Kicker will not come back he blew the NS game:mad:
Derek is getting some interest from some schools Southern Miss, SMU. I think his dad kicked at Southern Miss. As far as leg strength, its amazing what a year in the weightroom can do.

It is also amazing what genetics will do. If his dad was a kicker at Southern Miss. he must have some help with good genes.

Thats a bit out of line... Derek has a strong leg and will make an impact next year as the highlanders look to make a run (hopefully) deep into the playoffs.

When Does Spring Football Start For The Woodlands?
I Want To Come Out And See This Beast Of A Kicker Who Is Good From 65 With A 20 Mile Per Hour Wind In His Face.
He Must Of Been Doing Some Heavy Lifting Cause He Was Struggling Earlier With The Extra Points Getting Them Over The Cross Bar.

and yet you continue to show your intelligence. i don't think this guy is very believable as far as the information on the kicker and the kicker's father goes.

Call Rice University and ask them about my intelligence. I think my 3.9 GPA should speak for itself.

Since when does a degree from Texas Women's constitute a degree from Rice. I guess that degree did a lot of good for your job search since you have time to come and post all the time.
If you need any help sending out a resume, just let me know.

This has officially turned into the "All My Chilrdren" thread. I guess there just wasn't enough substance material available to talk about on TWH special teams. However, Don't you think Taylor Grote will be a good kick and punt return guy for TWH in 2006?

If yall wanna keep up the name calling, take it somewhere else.
Can we at least have one topic without calling people names?
Why can't The Woodlands and Conroe just get along?

Guys, we can't let these threads keep deteriorating into Conroe-Woods flame wars. I've already had to lock two threads for going overboard.
FWIW, PackAttack, Taylor Grote should be a great player for The Woodlands this fall. He is a very good receiver who's been on varsity since his sophomore year. He gets to be the man this year now that Drabek is done. The Woodlands also have other talented skill guys who will contribute on offense/defense in addition to the special teams.
