Does anyone have any predictions here? I have not seen a whole lot of these teams play, but I would say Brownwood has a pretty descent shot.

I plan on posting a preview on the site by tomorrow. I'll give a run down of 10 of the top teams (in my opinion anyway) and few darkhorses as well.
In the Houston area...Bay City, Katy and The Woodlands have looked good. Westfield can also be very good in 7 on 7.
From what I've heard...Southlake Carroll has looked very good as well as Stephenville. Hebron has some good players also, and usually do well in 7 on 7. Brownwood of course. Copperas Cove and Abilene could be threats also.
Tyler Lee, as defending champs of course, will have something to say about it I'm sure.

Waco Midway should be pretty tough this year.
They have always done pretty good in 7 on 7...but this year they should be better than the past.
They blew out Cove earlier.

Brownwood, Cove, Abilene High or Stephenville could win and I wouldnt be the least bit surprised. There is some sick talent on those teams.

Cove, Abilene, and threats all in the same sentence.
What an unfortunate choice of words KT. :D
Man, I'm going to miss the 98 degree temps/98% humidity of College Station.

For what it's worth, Brownwood played in 4 SQTs this year and went a perfect 14-0 in all four tourneys. I only got to see the Abilene SQT, but Brownwood was by far the best team there and that was an SQT that featured Abilene High and Cove. My guess, right now, is that Brownwood wins it all.

I'm going with Bay City. They've been awesome against some very good talent.

i am not big into the 7 on 7 but i did take in my first 7 on 7 games this year and they are kind of fun to watch. i know lufkin is undefeated and they should be pretty good in the 7 on 7 tourney this year because of their great depth at the wr and corner position and a good qb. i have no idea how good they will do and i have no predictions. i do not know enough about it to make any predictions. you would think a team like slc would be great in the 7 on 7 with their type of system?? i am sure they are?? tyler lee won it last year and permian won it the year before right?? i think slc won one a few year back?? does longview bother competing in 7 on 7?? i bet they do not because 7 on 7 would not be very beneficial with their style of play. but then again i see a team like spring westfield in the 7 on 7 tourney and they run the wishbone right??

hey kt2000 i saw your assessment of lufkin and another potential lock down corner is chris brown!! he is impressive looking and reminds me of hewitt. he even kind of looks like him. he transferred back so he was not on lufkin's team last year. watch out for him though because he looks to have a lot of skills at the cb position.

I've seen Arlington Lamar play a few times this summer and with their starters they look like a very serious 7 on 7 team.

Where exactly do they play the games?
KT2000

The games are played at the Penberthy Fields (Texas A&M campus). The fields are near Kyle and the hoops stadium.

I think you'll manage to develop a head/stomach ailment Thursday night. ;) Just think of what Jeff Foxworthy says...think of something extreme/gross so that they won't bother asking questions about it. :D

KT,
Has Katy had their entire 7 on 7 team at any one tourny this year? Will everyone be there this weekend?
KT2000
07-11-2005, 01:49 PM
Will Thompson has been on vacation for a good chunk of the summer, but should be back by now and ready to go for College Station. Katy was closest to full strength at the Cinco Ranch tournament (minus Thompson) that they won. Of course, having Thompson for the championship tourney will be key and should make the team better all-around. So far, Katy's only 7 on 7 loss (that I know of) near full strength came against Bay City.
I'm not sure who can't make it for College Station, but Katy should bring a strong team even if 1 or 2 regulars are missing. Dalton has been passing very well, and the Tigers are deep at the skill spots this year. Even without Thompson during qualifiers, Katy still looked like a very good 7 on 7 team.

Copperas Cove ended up not playing in the Brownwood qualifier so you have no idea what Cove may have compared to Brownwood. Cove pulled out because they had already qualified and they needed some rest for their own warm-up tourney

I'm really looking forward to see Cove play. I'll definitely have to catch your group game against Bay City. That is a championship caliber match up right there.

Ha! We'll see about that!
SLC will win the whole thing
Thats if they dont have to play Arlington Lamar. A team that smoked them twice. Thats another thing SLC is picked as one off the better teams and Lamar which has only lost twice all summer isnt even listed. WOW :D

i would never think a big time running team like arlington lamar would be good in the 7 0n 7 tourney?? i guess if you have the athletes they can learn to play that type of ball very quickly.
drgnbkr
07-12-2005, 11:00 AM
They are one of the many teams who put in a special offense that they never use during the season just to try & have their day in the sun....

look for g-mcelroy to have a big tourny

You have to remember , that if you want to run the ball you also have to pass. If it wasnt for Luna the last three years SLC would of had problems. You just have to mix it up, you cant be one or the other you have to mix it up.
pack0808
07-12-2005, 11:42 AM
i am well aware that it can be beneficial to mix it up, but many teams like lamar, carter, longview, clear lake, judson, westfield, trinity, katy northshore etc etc have been pretty dang successful running the ball about 80 percent of the time and some of those run 90 percent of the time. it just surprises me a team like lamar would be in the 7 on 7?? maybe they are considering changing their offense during the regular season and they want to pass more. but i can understand why any team would want to do it. it is good work for the qb wr's, and db's no matter what type of offense you run. so i can understand why a team like lamar does it now that i think about it but i am surprised they are as good as you say they are at 7 on 7 because that is not their normal style of offense. you would think teams that run the spread would be the best at 7 on 7 because it is more like their offense is during the season and they are used to it. that is all i was saying.

hey pack0808, conroe is in lufkin's pool and they will play the first game. Since you havent really seen alot of 7 on 7 games before, conroe will be more than happy to show you how to really play the game and whip up on you boys from lufkin! (all fun and games pack! are you going to be in college station watcing?)

all lamar runs is crap stuff that u could never pull off in a game and dosent get kids any better. they some times line the wide outs were the o-line should be its stupid and waste of reps.
slc has not had all their guys together at one 7on7 this year but in college station they will ,should be interesting the
starters are Qb greg mcelroy, wideouts - jackobson, dodge, smiter, renfro, and ford fast carroll wide outs i have ever seen all run 4.4 !

well conroe maybe you can hang your season on a 7 on 7 game but lufkin will put a little more emphasis on real football. ;) what was the score when conroe played lufkin in real football last year at the half. 44-0?? ouch!! sure i would like lufkin to have a good run in 7 on 7 but if they do not oh well it is just 7 on 7 and it is nothing like the real game and everybody knows that. it is fun competition and kids can work on their skills so i am all for it though. i did not used to be until i went to a game. i used to think it was a waste of time and it might get somebody seriously injured before the season. and nah, i am not going to make a long trip to see a 7 on 7 game because i do plenty of traveling once the season starts.

Wow SLC you have played them twice and have lost 41-27 then agian 49-27. Now you come out here and trash a team that has spanked you twice in a 2 month period. You sound like some little 8 th grader telling mommy that they dont play fair. Their suppose to line up the way we do....Waaaaa. And their defense didnt let us score 50 .... waaaa
Come on slc0204 dont pull the same crap everyone in the state has been doing to SLC the last three years. Give congrats the Vikings 7-7 and then go out and try to beat them at state. Its that simple

Thor's right......it's time to shutup and play!!
That said, Thor, I have to wonder if you will be sitting back again in December wishing your team had worked harder at developing a true passing attack instead of all the gimicks. 7 on 7 championships don't mean much when your team makes a quick exit in the real playoffs.

No pressure on Arlington Lamar. Lots of pressure on SLC, since all the graduations of the key contributers over the last 3 years will SLC be able to keep it up? I hope they do because I have enjoyed watching them. We will think more about it when playoffs come around.
Good luck to SLC
