Last week Plano won the State Academic Decathlon - yesterday they won the boys basketball 5A state championship.
Also two weeks ago Coach Brence (football) was named 5A coach of the year.
Plano has had a good year.
I talked to one of their teachers this past week. He said they are confident the football team next year will be as good as the one from this season. They have a great quarterback coming up who will be passing more than they did last season. Should be interesting.

and pwest girls won state too. congrats to all.
coach b has orchestrated a miraculous turn around with arguably one of the most talented teams ever to come out of plano high. that group had played together thru thick and thin for 3 years, and it paid off. hope the talent level can stay up. the coy award isn't necessarily for the best coaching performance(see mack b) but for the coach fielding the most talent successfully(see vy).
i was very unimpressed with the offensive tunnel-vision and elementary manner with which the wildcats approached their offensive scheme. their tendencies were pretty easy to read and never varied. needless to say, they needed an inside running threat.

Plano's offense has always been like that and has always been successful when the players execute. Your right they needed a stronger FB presense last year.
When I played at Plano I remember many times when the defense at the line of scrimmage would call the run exactly where we were running and we still drove down their throat. My ring saying state champs says it works. I don't think you have to out trick a team or go no huddle with 4 wideouts every play and bascially run the same running play everytime to be a successful offense. You have to execute. I'm pretty sure Plano knew what SLC was going to throw out their in December. SLC executed a little better than Plano that day.

the plano offenses of the 70's and 80's were never predictable. coach clark began the process whereby we scouted ourselves so as not to be predictable. we studied our own tendencies as well as our opponents. coach kimbrough was also very interested in his team's tendencies. those teams ran the option to perfection, which made them unpredictable. the wildcats of 05 didn't run the option much at all, at least vs slc. they ran outside rt and outside left, and threw on third and long if at all. coach b didn't seem to care about his tendencies much. i agree with the execution part, and that has always been something the wildcats prided themselves in.

The main difference is Kimbrough was a X's & 0's coach and always adjusted during the game when needed. He was a student of the game and worked his staff long and hard especially in the film room. I don't believe you have the same type of dedication from Brence and his staff. Brence does not have the intangibles that made Kimbrough great.

i can't agree more. had you played for coach clark, you'd know where that ethic was initiated. i played for both, and are still friends with both. great coaches, and better men.

Congrats to Plano. If Berkner couldn't have it, I'm glad it was Plano.

As long as we're at this, I would like to offer my congratulations to ALL of the Metroples teams that won b-ball chapionships this past two weeks. It was almost a clean sweep for the area. Oh yeah, Carroll added another state title as well - State Robotics Team Champion. So one more for the Dragons too. :D
