View Full Version : Sleeper team next year, and why.

Okay, my turn for a fun question; Who do you predict will be the sleeper team next year? Another words: Who will be unexpectedly good next year, that was not good this year?
On the same note: How about the opposite; Who that was traditionally good this year, might choke next year?
My sleeper pick is: Flower Mound, I just think it is their time.
My choke pick is: Katy. Crazy pick, but I think they have graduated too many key positions. This is nothing personal, just my prediction.

Depends what your definition of good is. If losing in the first round is considered not good than I think we have a chance to be a sleeper.

I think a SA school will win the State Championship next season...i think it'll be SmithsonValley because they're due...they got them a GREAT QB and a GOOD RB on top of that their Defense is ALWAYS TOPS....i really like them next season....THOUGH THEY'RE NOT an "SLEEPER"
as MY Sleeper, i'll take LaJoya from the RGV.........of course...i think they'll be TOO MUCH for the 1st 2rds to contend with..the Running Game is gonna be FAR too powerfull for ANY RGV, Laredo or CC team...i think Judson or O'Connor will have their HANDS FULL with them in the 3rd rd....The LaJoya OLine returns ALL 5 starters from last season and AVGs about 6'3 290lbs....so they're BIG...they also have 1,900yrd RB Juan Martinez returning....he was 5'9 190lbs this past season and i HEAR he's gotten bigger he runs about a 4.6 but LaJoya's got a couple of other really SPEEDY RBs....i really like them, but they'll be tested EARLY against CorpusChristi POWERHOUSE Calallen in week 2.... Other than LaJoya, i like O'Connor from SA...i think they'll get one over on Judson next season....

My sleeper pick is Killeen Ellison...moving up to 5A from 4A this fall. After losing their first 3 games to start the season last fall, they advanced to the 4A quarterfinal game before losing to Wylie 21-14. Most of the key players on that team return.

my sleeper pick in the Houston area is Klein. Thay will have 2 experienced RBs, and return some size on both sides of the line. Not saying they will dominate, just that the potential is there for a good season and a run into the POs.

my sleeper pick is haltom. their new coach will bring some dodge-like characteristics into the fray. coach george will be the next young turk to hit the scene. you'll hear more about him in the next few years.

haha thats funny. Have you ever seen this team play a good team? They will finish 4th in the district at best.

Primetime536,
If Killeen Ellison finishes in 4th place; they make the playoffs. I expect A&M Consolidated to win District 13-AAAAA...with Bryan, Harker Heights, Shoemaker, and Ellison fighting for the remaining 3 play-off spots.

Mine has been Beaumont Westbrook all along... Just a hunch, but the new coach turned things around pretty fast last year and I'm thinking they'll be a migration of talent from PAM this season as well...

I don't think PAM will get anyone from Westbrook but even if they do, isn't the rule that if you move within the district that you are ineligible to play varsity ball for one year?

Was thinking that as long as the kid, coaches, and parents sign off that the move was not for athletic purposes, the UIL will go along and allow the student to participate without sitting out... Also, I said Westbrook might get players from PAM, not the other way around...

yea i'm sorry, I understood what you said I just was typing and didn't over what I said, but I know a couple of kids who moved to Huffman and had to sit out of their first year from varsity sports so I think it's a little more than just getting the parents and coaches to sign off on it.

Fighting...pshhh this district has turned into a semi-joke. Shoemaker lost soooo mcuh talent they will be terrible. Elison lost alot of offense with the departure of #9. Harker Heights will be the districts sleeper. Nick Trice remember that name. Not even on this sites players to watch list. The fact that this site looked past him is a joke

Please explain to me how it is a joke that we may have missed someone who appears nowhere on the 13-5A All-District list and who has 0 recorded stats on statesman.com...
It is clearly stated on the Players to Watch page that the list is a work in progress and that it will be updated as time goes on.
We have just recently started receiving coaches surveys. That's the only possible way we would be able to know about guys who don't show up anywhere on postseason awards lists and who also don't show up on stat sheets.

in his defense, Lufkin was lucky to escape with a victory in that game last year. LP played terrible, and HH made a living off of a QB that was in the Zone.

oh no doubt about that..just shows how good lufkin is.. they didnt play a good game against a team that was playing probably the best they have ever played and lufkin still came out with the victory...... however.... a win means advancement.. almost winning is not..... but anyway...

No way in hell will WB get players from PAM. Thats obsurd. Secondly, ---
PAM AND--yes--and WB are my sleepers.
My choke team------Teh Woodylands. I just think there is enough talent pulled from them to flop early in the season. The only reason they make the playoffs is because of the 4 team format.

ROFLMAO. all-Europe..........
Just because he runs a 4.37 on the track does not mean he is fast on the field. He may be a good running back, but the KTs don't know about everyone, especially ones that sat out a whole season.

Sleeper team next year and why.
Since most of the games I watch are out of 265a I'll have to pick a team from there. Judson, SV and Madison have been the top 3 for the last few years so I'll focus on a team that has not been in the playoffs for a few years and I have a little knowleged of.
MacArthur
In 2005 they finished 5-5-0.
Wins over
Clark 20-13
Taft 31-18
Boerne 23-17
Lee 34- 7
Roosevelt 35-17
Loses with
Reagan 20-22
SV 21-28
Churchill 7-19
Judson 0-21
Madison 34-40 ot
2005 was a better year then the previous 3 years but did not meet the expectations of the team or coaches. In 2006 MacArthur will field a team with 15 returning starters and 19 seniors in the starting lineup.
Key players for this years team:
QB Kevin Schmid - SR
Through the Lee game(5 games) completed 65% of his passes, 503yds, 7TDs passes and zero ints. Has very good vision and utilizes every option in the offense.
RB Jonathan Craig - SR
Very explosive player. Can score anytime he touches the ball. Had 10 TD's in 2005 with 6 from 50yds or longer.
RB Wally Shraim - SR
More of a pure RB that hits the whole quickly. Used more in short yardage situations because he doesn't take many carries for losses.
WR Andre Odom - SR
As good height (6'3") and will be the leader on this WR core. Should have more opportunities with Schmid at the helm.
WR Ryan Lofton - SR
Not as big as Odom but very quick and will find the holes in the defenses. Can take to the house with his speed.
OL John Shussler - SR
Will anchor the OL (6'4" 300lbs) with T Williams but must stay healthy. He was lost most of 2005 due to injuries.
OL Thaddeus Williams - SR
Will rely on his quickness to make up for size (6'0" 230lbs).
OL Brandon Armstrong - SR
Played most of 2005 replacing injuried players like Shussler and Vasquez. Valuable playing type to prepare for 2006.
DL Vincent Johnson - SR
Will cause OL trouble with his quickness. Can play any position on the DL
DL Jade Perez - SR
One, two punch in the middle with Johnson. Can maintain the line and give the LB's the opportunity to make the tackles.
DE Jaryd Hickman - SR
Another quck lineman that has solid speed as well.
LB Joey Gallegos - SR
Returns to his true position this year. Played DT due to multiple injuries on the DL. Blue collar type of LB and along with Mondragon they will control the middle of the field.
LB Martin Mondragon - SR
Had a very solid junior season that will only get better with Gallegos back at LB.
DB/S Marc Kinney - SR
Knows how to play this game. Makes plays everywhere and will be one of the leaders on this defense.
This team is set for a big year even if they are in 265a. It won't be easy but with all the returning players and the playing time that these guy's got, they will be ready. Now they have to prove it.
