View Full Version : Post 13K is dedicated to a bunch of losers

One of our former members doesn't like the board because it's been taken over by high school kids and losers, but I disagree. I think some of the topics and posts are boring during and after football season, but this board has always been driven by people posting and responding to posts. We have more members than ever and more big-time posters than ever and that's a good thing.

This is dedicated to:

Miss Kitty, who I could dedicate all of them to. Maybe you should get a set of clear heels!:D
KT2000, Ktchamp97, and jc84chill for keeping this place running and being good guys.
Dragons08, who always has a comment or something to say, and is a great guy to pick on!
ReaganRattler07, who's a decent guy until he gives his opinion!:p
SeguinMatadors, who's a good guy.
Coolestkidever, for putting up with the other guys!:p
RedRage00, for never leaving me alone.
TexasRed6X, for the basketball discussion.
dada4w, for the back and forth interaction we have.
Mad_fan, who always has something funny to say.
CoppellCowboy57, for being a good guy and joining the Marines.
RocketTRN, for being spirited and rooting for Judson.
farmerfan, for being a good friend.
ThEgReAtOnE, who needs to post more often.:(
Garlandowl08, who is cool even though we don't talk much.
Scooter!, who's a great guy.
Texas Headliner, who just might be a Hall of Famer one day.
Slorch and Tut, for being goofy on the board.
KatyTigerDad0407, for being a stat guy.

I could probably list more, but I wanted to give some credit to the top 60 posters. I appreciate these Hall of Famers on the first 2 pages because they are the segway to the site being what it is today and they still make great contributions:

I definitley have the right mind for it too. You should know since I am always on here talking about what I love to do and that is sports and I can't find any greater love than that except for a girlfriend and that is later on. Thank you for the support that you have given me to push myself hard for my journalism career and I promise you I will not let you down. You are right I hope I don't see #13 ever but I have a strong faith in myself and in god to preven that from happening but if it happens it happens and I will fight through it aggresively as I can just like my previous 12.

Lonny,

thanks for the post... I'll continue to give that "different point of view(AKA goofy)"

I agree with the board actually maturing some, even in the short time I have been a member. Being mature doesn't have a whole lot to do with age either, but being able to have a substantial discussion with some ribbing thrown in for good measure.

here's to a great board that provides a great forum for us to discuss our favorite sport and some off topics.

Thanks everybody, even Lonny!

Maybe they'll retire my number one day where nobody can have 23 in their username. It's kind of weird that nobody really retires from message boards like sports. The Hall of Fame was probably the best idea ever to get us to post more, but Dragons08 and Wide are the only people I know of who have gotten into the Hall of Fame based upon the new level being attainable. CC57 got in for good measure, Grayowl60 for winning the pick em, and RedRage00 for asking. The rest of us were automatics when the board crashed last year.

I'll be honest with you on this one. I think it's going to be challenging for people to get into the Hall of Fame in the future. 21 of the 24 Hall of Famers (not including Wide) are in based upon past contributions before April 2005. You'll get at least 1 a year from the Pick 'em contest, but it's going to be tough. Posting quite a bit doesn't do it and you see Dragons08 didn't get in until he hit 10K. The increase in posters just makes it that much harder to get in. You'll see that almost all the Community Vets and Hall of Famers have been around for several years and some since 2001.

I will say this - there are a lot of kids on here but that adds a little more fun and enjoyable reading during the "off season". Now, once the real season starts all of us vets will be feverishly posting away about the real topic - football. For right now, I am reading more than responding but it has been most interesting. I agree with that... I certainly wouldn't ever be one of them kids with only internet friends... that is pretty lame. However, I think I can have better conversations with some of the guys off of this board and because of that I consider them friends. Also, if any of them are real cool and live close... you can never have to many real life friends.

I agree with you on that one. You need actual friends and not just internet friends.

As far as the Hall of Fame goes, I think it's a good thing to want to make it, but a certain level of understanding must come with it. Not everybody deserves to make it and it's clear that a good understanding of the game of football is a requirement in almost all cases. I also think it takes an understanding and interest in football at least region-wide, if not state-wide, to make the Hall of Fame. For anybody that wants to be in the Hall of Fame, you need to ask yourself this question. Am I in the same neighborhood as the Hall of Famers when it comes to football discussions? If you are in the nieghborhood, then you can make a claim about wanting to be in the Hall. Not everybody that asks for the Hall deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

I slowed down some because I was at 42 back in January. Dragons08 got up over 40, too. Hey, I was barely over 10 back in early September! It's hard to build a post count in the offseason unless you didn't post much in the regular season.

As far as stirring things up, I got to 13K without going on SLC, Lufkin, Longview, or Houston threads. In truth, I probably wouldn't be much higher if I was stirring things up just because there's a limit to how much a person can say and it comes back to what they choose to say. I didn't say any less by not fighting.

socialism is an economic strategy

the salary cap is an NFL strategy aimed at avoiding the predicament that has destroyed baseball. In MLB, about 5 teams spend alot of money, the rest are just fodder... It is a business strategy aimed at keeping all business units viable no different than McDonalds limiting the # of franchises within a certain geography so that they don't compete with one another.

All of the guys( owners) in the NFL do have enough money. They might not have the self-discipline to keep from offering Mike Vick or Peyton Manning $25milllion to come play in San Diego or Buffalo. There is no dispute as to which league has the best financial process, and everybody, haves and have-nots, have profited since the George Youngs, the Rooneys, and the Clint Murchisons of the world sacrificed their egos in order to make the NFL bigtime like it is today.

the players still get a % of the growth, so it's not like their earnings are capped, so, no, it is not the same as socialism. It is a very, very capitalistic league that believes competition comes from the other leagues, not within its own franchises.

I don't think it did ruin baseball. All sports owners have money and I'd be mad as a fan if they didn't want to pay to get good players. I'm just lucky in that:

Jerry Jones is willing to spend more money on the Cowboys than he's allowed to do. Mark Cuban maintains the #2 payroll in basketball with the Mavericks. Tom Hicks paid a lot of money to keep the Stars near the top before the salary cap and he's been willing to spend money on the Rangers even if he's been cheaper lately. Even though Drayton McLane has made me mad a few times, he's still been willing to spend money on the Astros to keep them afloat over the years.

and to your point, even the salary cap doesn't help the Texans be competitive, and they have actually spent the money...

There are 2 things to add to salary cap discussions. The NFL also has a minimum cap that makes you pay a certain amount and teams in general overpay for lesser players because of the cap. Caps do keep some team from paying a lot for players, but they also make the bottom teams spend more.

Maybe you should get a set of clear heels!

Thanks for the shout out Bro....I know I spend a lot of time in the "Off Topic" thread, but I really know my sports too. It's just during the Off-season...there isnt a specific team I follow...some may call me a "Bandwagon" guy....but I'm a fan of the "Best" team in Houston. I went to 4 different highschools(Houston Reagan, Elsik, Scarbrough and Esienhower) played for two(Reagan and Elsik)..didnt play for scarbrough or Ike...I was only at those schools for about 3 months combined before graduating. So I follow ALL the HISD schools, I like to see those guys make it because the reasources they have are primative comapared to most schools and when they do make it, it's good to see. I THOUGHT I would be in the Katy family this year...but after visiting this weekend the Misses said "It's too far" so we may be relocating in the Woodlands:mad: ..it's all good though. I do consider you guys friends...looking forward to meeting a lot of you this season. Welcome back Lonny.....

Nope. I am from Rhode Island, but I currently live in Arkansas. I was told Judson was pretty good so I decided I would root for them.

Ahhhh yes, one of my FAVORITE holidays. The wearin' of the green. The eatin' of the green. The drinkin' of the green. :D But that is only one day. Just make sure you DON'T wear red on Friday. That is if you are Irish.

Congratulations on your 13K post. :D :D :D

The posts from you and fellow board members makes this HS football forum awesome.

I'm still relatively new to this board so I won't be seeing 1K much less 13K anytime soon. Great work!

Congrats on making it to 13K Lonny.
This thread is proof I slowed down. I went from 0 to 13K in 11 months from Apr 2005 when they went to this latest board and have only posted 20K times in the last 35 months with maybe 11K posts in the last 26 months.
