LufkinPanthers

Lufkin will have alot of senior starters in 2006 that [SIZE="1"]gained valuable experience last year. We will possibly start 9 seniors on both sides of the ball which is unusual for a school our size, this gives us alot of leadership on the field and depth with the underclassmen. Hopefully this can get us over the SLC hump or in this case i should say mountain.
Offense:
qb Jeremy Clabon 6'0 185 sr - came on strong in the playoffs hopefully can pick up were he left off broke most of Reggie McNeils records as a jr.
rb. Ja Corey Turner 5'8 160 sr- if he can stay healthy given his small size he his very very good ; fast, good vision, and good hands out of the backfield.
ol Matt Adams 6'0 210 sr- smaller in size but smart and strong hopefully can add weight in the off season.
ol Cameron Kegler 5'9 250 sr- constant motor with a good frame for our offense
ol Micheal Jost 5'10 225 sr- good size smart player does not make alot of mistakes.
ol Kevin Hanks 6'2 285 sr- biggest lineman we have but needs to add a mean streak and work on mental mistakes.
ol Max Taylor 6'2 230 sr- best lineman on the team and the leader of the squad plenty of mean streak here but must watch his temper.
wr Dez Bryant 6'1 200 sr- one of the best recieving talents in the state size speed and great leaping, alot of circus catches last year that you would have to see to believe.
wr Ralph Thomas 5'8 160 sr- one of the best all around athletes on the field for either team no matter whos playing dont be fooled by his size this kid can flat out play.
Defense:this is not as set as the offense-
dl Brendan McKelvey 5'10 220 sr- did not start as a jr but got playing time came into the rotation as the year went on.
dl Randall Murphy 5'10 250 sr- been on varsity since his soph season started as a junior good motor good mean streak must watch his temper
dl Jeff Wlliams 6'0 230 sr- did not start as a jr but worked his way into the rotation came on pretty well in the playoffs.
lb A.J. Penson 6'1 215 sr- was the second best defensive player on the team last year behind Mandela Roberts. He played dl last year moving to lb this year he is a very good football player.
lb Cam Davis 5'10 185 sr- this kid came on so strong as a jr that he took the starting role of a sr by playoff time he has a chance to be the next Mandela Roberts.
lb Ferris Evans 5'10 215 sr- he will be making the biggest move on the team from j.v. running back to varsity lb but they say he has the tools to do it.
db Danquon Landry 5'8 160 sr- has been on the varsity since his soph season started as a jr so he has alot of experience like seeing SLC receivers running all over the secondary hopefully this will help him if we meet again
db Demetrius McDuffy- 5'10 160 sr- another kid that has a big jump to make played wr last year on varsity moving to db this year he has spring ball and 7 on 7 to help him.
db Joe Jackson 5'9 175 sr- he has been on varsity since his soph season and started as a jr he has good leadership skills and will hit with the best of them, will also return punts
Kicker/Punter
Jaime Fernandez 5'11 210 sr- will do both duties and has been kicking on the varsity leval since his soph season; one of the best in the state great leg strength.

I noticed some big sophomores on the sidelines during the PO games. Will some of those smaller senior linemen keep their starting positions?

There will be a ton of pressure on these players next year, not to mention the old ball coach. I do not envy them. Can they live up to the hype?

LP, just like Longview and other bigtime programs like SLC, SV, CJ, Katy or ET, has to live up to some sky high expectations from their fans every year. Their coaching staff has been outstanding in the games I've watched. Tradition isn't built from just having pressure this year. Sometimes, I like to use the word MOMENTUM instead of tradition. They work very similarly in respect to football programs.
I believe there is a ton of substance to back up that hype!

Lufkin has been deep consistently in the playoffs since Reggie and co. kicked the door down in 2001, so I think they'll be prepared to deal with the hype they'll receive as one of the top teams in the state going in.
They've been highly rated just about every year from 2001 through now.
I'm sure Coach Outlaw and co. will have them focused on handling their business on the field each week. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.
FWIW, they do have very talented younger players on the way up who could earn spots in the varsity rotation.

The seniors listed are just possible starters. Lufkin like many other top programs has a good number of underclassmen some that will probably step up and claim a starting role from some of the seniors listed, its just nice for Lufkin to have so many seniors that will either start or make major contributions. Here are some of the underclassmen that are expected to help out.
OFFENSE:
James Davis wr 6'1 175 jr to be- expected to take one of the two remaining wr spots played wr and qb last year on the jv
Trevon Lewis rb 5' 10 170 soph to be- the most hyped player to come through Lufkin since Reggie McNeil should see plenty of playing time if he is as good as advertised
Will Calhoun ol 6'1 230 jr to be- moved up from jv last year for the playoffs as a soph
Joshua Emshoff ol 6'3 250 jr to be- moved up from jv last year for the playoffs as a soph
Robert Inman ol 6'3 270 jr to be- moved up to varsity for playoffs and got lots of playing time even started a couple of games
Eric Johnson wr 5'9 160 jr to be- moved up to varsity late in the year should compete for last starting wr slot
Zach Taylor wr 6'1 170 jr to be- moved up to varsity for playoffs also should compete for last starting wr slot
DEFENSE:
Darrius Terry db 5'8 170 jr to be- moved up to varsity halfway through last season, took starting role by playoffs he is the real deal and should claim a starting role again
Jumarloyn Bagley db 6'1 170 jr to be- moved up to varsity for playoffs has nice size and should also compete for starting role
Jacolby Ashworth dl 6'1 250 jr to be- moved to varsity for playoffs will be a major part of the dl rotation
Jamarcus McFarland dl 6'3 250 soph to be-expected to start in the middle very hype player from jv last year.Coachs said that last year he was a man amongst boys
Terrance Ivey dl 6'1 230 jr to be- should compete for starting role at de in the mold of AJ Penson only bigger
These are the kids that have recieved the most attention and some should step up as well as a few that always come out of the dark. Good luck to every team next season theres not a better sport or way that our kids can spend there time.

Yeah we know all of the details about next year's team but ty for the info. I hear Terry might move to lb along with Penson? Am i wrong? I hope RT gets it together before football season? Most all the Lufkin people know what i am talking about. Let's just say it was interesting at the ball park the other night. RT will not be playing baseball anymore for the pack. It is unfortunate and hope he will be playing football next year? He is one of best of a very very good team returning.
Hey Rclisle Lufkin deals with this hype almost every year now. They have been ranked in the top 3 at one time or another for 5 years straight now like kt said. Nothing new here. Lufkin has been ranked #1 several times since the 2001 season. They are used to that pressure as are other great programs.

That kind of thing is best kept to PM. Potential player issues are not something that should be aired on a public board.

I watched most of those guys play when they were sophmores starting on jv except for ralph thomas who was on varsity then. The offense was dominant in the running and passing game offensive leaders were Dez Bryant, Jacorey Turner, and Jeremy Claybon. The defense was explosive and were smash mouth hitters unlike the jv from this past season the d-line was led by A.J. until he got moved up then Jeff williams and brendan mckelvey stepped in an proved his dominance. They had some surprising big hitters Cam Davis was one along with Kendall Adams, Demarkis Redmon those where big time hitters and they had two good corners cam flakes and daquon landry(who moved up to varsity) i would of loved to see the offense play that defense that would be a great game, so i am looking forward to this spring game to see the plays that will be made on both sides of the ball.

Robert Inman was on varsity fron the conroe oak ridge game, started quite a few games. Zach Taylor was on varsity from the klein forest game as the deep snapper. he will also compete for time at wr next year. the sophs are very good. kind of scary actually. most of the players mentioned could have a huge impact on this upcoming season

ol Matt Adams 6'0 210 sr- smaller in size but smart and strong hopefully can add weight in the off season.
ol Max Taylor 6'2 230 sr- best lineman on the team and the leader of the squad plenty of mean streak here but must watch his temper.
I diagree that Max is the best lineline on the team. True that he has a mean streak and he is well capable to execute his job on his blocking assignments, but he's not the best linemen in my opinion.
I think Matt is the best linemen. He is small in size at only 6' 210 lbs, but he is the fastest and quickest linemen(about a 4.9 in the 40, is what I've heard). We all know that speed is deadly and that goes for the same on the o-line. He is small for an offensive linemen, but I have heard from people that he is getting stronger in the offseason( benching over 275 lbs and squating over 375lbs) and he has gained weight that is muscle weight. I heard he weighs in at about 225 now.
Matt did have one set back during the season though, he hurt his knee in the first playoff game and had to sit two games out. From the stands, I could see how bad he wanted to be out there playing. He came back in the Copperas Cove game and did well for someone coming off an injury, and from what I can tell, he played great during the SLC game.
I think the coaches would agree with me by saying he is the best o-linemen because Matt received the "Most Outstanding Offensive Linemen" award at the football banquet. Don't get me wrong, I think Max and Matt are both outstanding athletes and are both leaders on the offensive line, but I think Matt is the best linemen in this returing senior o-line.
