View Full Version : Dallas Celebration Penalties

Come to find out - the penalty was on Sam Hurd for a dual hook 'em horns sign - vs. Miles' leapfrog.
Watch the video (right after the leapfrog):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kOWehlrTqk
Clearly a celebration bias against Dallas. It's ok for GB or Houston to do the Lambeau leap for 90 seconds - but Sam can't hook 'em.
Take away these two biased penalities and Dallas is going to the Super Bowl.
Where's Lonny?

prolly cuz the hook 'em isn't as popular as whorn fans would like to believe.

refs from either Corn or dirt - clearly some Lonny investigation is needed.

I think the whole celebration penalty is a joke the way they enforce it. What about the dancing after a sack? What about doing multiple chest bumps after a score or like was said earlier, the lambeau leap? Pure chickensh*t to call the leapfrog or the horns sign as excessive celebration. The refs are just being ******. I do believe that this will be talked about at the next owners meetings. The leap into the stands is excessive and always has been.

As long as the celebration does not cause a delay of game I say this is chickenpoop.
And I think that goes for High School and College too.
It can get out of hand. But this was NOT it.
And I am not particularly a Cowgirls fan so it's not a homer opinion.
CM has spoken. Someone take a memo and get it to the owners.

Touchdown Celebration = More Viewers
Take that away and the game becomes less interesting.
Lambeau Leap is a classic so they won't ever say it's excessive.

classic or not, it is excessive and needs to be flagged

I agree on the celebration issue, but what about the other 10 penalties averaged per game?
The NFL VP of Officiating came out today and said the flag on the Cowboys first TD was not for Miles Austin leapfrogging Roy (he actually said he would be upset if that was called), but for Hurd flashing the Hook em Horns with Roy. Leapfrogging is OK but you can't flash the Horns. Seriously, WTF?
Roger Goodell wants the players to be robots and stoically walk back to the sidelines after scoring. I think it's all a bunch of BS. I don't like when players celebrate every F'n tackle (like KO returns, does anybody ever NOT celebrate then?) but good grief let them show some emotion after scoring a TD. It's an event that usually only happens 4-5 times on a good day for a team, let the players celebrate it as long as it doesn't hold up the game.

So, A HS or College game is less watchable, because this senseless crap is NOT allowed???
That is but ONE reason, that I find HS and College Football MORE fun to watch.
But that's just me.
I think most of the penalties for excessive celebration are dopey and don't bother me. When I thought the penalty was for the leap frog I thought it was jsut kind of dumb, now that it is because the second guy did the hook 'em, it's real stupid.

Roy Williams did that after every score in college as well. A ton of horns do it. It would be kid of funny if they got flagged. What about the tons of players that raise their arms in a "TD" signal after a TD or FG? how stupid...

Refs are piling on Dallas because they want to. I could care less - but, that's what they are doing.

All things in moderation, I say. Even from a stonch Aggie, the hookem sign is moderate.
However, If you feel like you gotta drag your butt on the carpet to show everyone how great your touchdown catch was, go do that crap on your sideline.
Miles DOES have some hops, though.

Think about it. The most well known players in the league are the celebrators.
I agree with you that HS and college are better because less time is focused on celebrating and more focused on other IMPORTANT things.
Soccer gets annoying when people celebrate. After I score a goal in my men's league I just jog back up the field and give a high five to someone who runs up and says good job. The flips and crap like that just get under my skin. It's plainly crap which just shows you how the Cowboys are this year.

I guess it just comes down to what you want to see. I don't give two rats about Angelina and Brad, but I'm gonna see it in the check out line! You know, because it is "news worthy". I have just held out hope, that sport would not become as rehearsed as the rest of "real life". I have watched Ohco and Terrel's show on Versys. It's dang funny! It doesn't mean, that I need to see him sign a ball with a Sharpie, right after he scores.
I've got it!
Instead of showing these "celebrations", how bout they show the reaction of the cheerleaders????
That way, feminists could be offended as well!!!!
TV viewership would skyrocket.
:D
So, anybody else hear about all the hubub about stricter helmet to helmet rules??? Heard part of it this morning on Mike an Mike.

I heard about it. It was a weekend of strong hits. They want to make the NFL, a peewee woman's football league or something. "Anything that looks malicious...." was what an announcer said.

The celebration this is ridiculous. First off, Roy... you graduated like 7 years ago... seriously... cut it out, if you're gonna do that bull crap why not do the Mojo hand roll thing? Hurd should have been penalized and cut from the team for doing that (sarcasm) I asked my dad where he (Hurd) went to college and he laughed and said "I dont even know if he went"
They went off on the celebrations when T.O. and Ocho started taking over ESPN with their celebrations. Which I think it was ok to crack down on the celebrations. But I think they need to take a look at the other side of the ball and the stupidity that is celebrating after EVERY SINGLE TACKLE. I mean, its just annoying. I understand after a big stop on third down or a big hit or fighting off a block and getting a tackle, but when a 300 plus DT gets a tackle 5 yards down the field...(act like you've been there before)
Part of why Favre is such a DB to me, is that he acts like hes about to give up the ghost and then all of a sudden, touchdown guy acts like hes never thrown a touchdown pass before. Maybe I'm lame (probably) but I like guys like Barry Sanders, never celebrated, he handed the ball to the ref cause he'd been there before.

i hate tu with the best of them, but i can't imagine getting penalized for throwing down a hookem.the nfl minons are not handling this celebration thing very well. i would love to see it be a penalty to celebrate anything other than a td. post sack dancing drives me nuts.

I don't mind celebrations that much, or really at all for the most part. Sure the guy who celebrates the big play when you're down by 28 is kind of funnny, but who cares.
There have been many players who have simply handed the ball to the ref, and that's cool too. I'd suggset many times it's not just because their upstanding guys, but because they'r kind of boring. Barry Sanders was a great player, but not that intrguing of a personality.

I don't mind celebrations either. I'm saying, its going overboard.
Roy flashing the Horns is just stupid. A tackle on special teams is stupid. After throwing like 600 td's passes, stupid. Keep it fun, but if you're going to call a penalty on a player falling down, call a penalty for excessive celebration after a tackle in the first quarter.

And, as everyone knows, THAT is why we watch. To see what sort of personality a player has.
:D
It is genuinely refreshing to me, when a player shows that type of restraint. Whether it be a sack, a good run, a tackle, a touch. All the "look at me" chest pounding makes me NOT want to watch.
As for celebrating, Teammates genuinely spontaneously celebrating as teammates is about as good as it gets.
But the obviously choreographed stuff is just tired.

That jerk Mark Gastinuea was the first clown I saw do a sack dance.
I was saying to myself........"did the Jets just win the game?".

Me too. Earl Campbell is the ideal to me. Act like you have been there before, business as usual.
And here he is, getting ready to jog for coyote :D :
