North Shore - read somewhere they returned 13 all-district players? Thats amazing.

While I certainly hope that Carroll finds a way to win it all again, I would truly be surprised if that were to happen, especially with the talent that Lufkin has coming back next season. Therefre I give teh nod to Lufkin. However, if Carroll manages to get to play Lufkin next season, I would surely not bet against the Dragons to win again.

I better not answer this. Can't give away the Gridiron Guide this early. :)
We do have a pretty well defined top four right now though. Subject to change between now and June 1 for sure.

They do have a bunch returning. There were 30 or so jr's and sophs on the 05 team. Most played and obviously not all were starters. I think Shore is another year away from really being a hammer again. They have another hot shot freshman qb in the Bobby Reid mold coming up. I wish they were in a tougher district. I would settle for a grueling non district schedule. Truth be known, they could lose all their nd games and will still win the district title and get in the playoffs.

I voted for Lufkin but think it will be Carroll. To be the man you got to beat the man. I'm constantly amazed at the amount of respect the teams, coaches and the fans of these two schools show each other. Its turned into one of the best rivalries in the state.

Actually I think that is a good question. I mean Katy just doesn't get talked about on this forum because everyone knows how good they are and they come out to play. They are by far the most disciplined team that I have watched. Talent doesn't come up much but the coaching staff does. They should above all teams have made that list.

Hey, when does the Gridiron Guide come out? They were really good last year. One of the things that encouraged me to join the site.

Most teams are picked by the amount of retuning starters and senoirs, that is why SLC may not be #1, they lost a tons of starters. Lufkin,s offense is missing only a couple of starter, so they should be rated high at the start of the 06 season. The week before Xmas will show the true #1 team.

I voted Lufkin. You probably should give the vote to SLC based on them being State Champs but Lufkin was in the semi-finals and they are returning more players while SLC is reloading. I would put Katy on that list but not up too high because we are reloading too. Coaching is what keeps Katy and SLC up there but Lufkin has good coaches too and as I said they are returning with experience plus you never know how many of their underclassmen will step up and contribute this year. Plus, you would think the odds of the Pack beating SLC in a semi-final to be high just in the statistical sense.
Go Pack.

it's a great rivalry for the best of reasons.
great programs with huge followings and some great games that mattered in the biggest way.
We all had our local rivals, but this one developed out of 3 titanic games that came down to who had the ball last in 2 of 'em, and a game last year that was close into the 3rd Q, even with LP losing their QB the week before.
It is reminiscent of the Cowboys/ 49ers in the 90's. When they played it was football at its best. These games have been too.

statistical variance plays little/no role in picking these games. i went with the pack because of their returning talent.

You're correct since graduation prevents continuity with players playing against each other year after year like in the Pros.
I sit corrected.

I agree. Two years ago when Humble was tied with Katy in area and was like 4th in state is they year that everything fell apart and they went 5-5. The talent they had just goes to show you that nothing is proven until that final game.

and that an all-star team of talent won't beat anyone , when they play together like an all star team, too.

I've only been in Texas for 8 years and have not missed but 1 ET game in that span. Started following them because I settled in Euless. I guess what I am asking is Lufkin has only won 1 championship correct. (Correct me if I am wrong) which I'm sure yaw will! As far as I know the rain game with us which Lineweaver lost is the only time we have played? Trinity as far as I see has accomplished just as much in the 8 yrs. Can someone tell me why when yaw talk about teams it's always SLC,KATY, LUFKIN etc.? 2001-semi's, 2002lost to Lamar, 2003 lost to Lamar, 2004 semi's again,2005 STATE CHAMPS --ET 1 CHAMPIONSHIP--Lufkin 1 championship . Just would like to know. Thanks and Peace!

Gritty52 has a good point, Euless has been up there every year and won D1 IN 2005, so they should be put in the mix also unless they lost a ton of kids.

For the most part, this is a D2 board. I don't like it, but that's the way it is. They don't even think about D1 and treat it like a red-headed stepchild. I won't take anything away from D2, because they have some great teams. I just think D1 doesn't get enough credit for the teams they produce. For all the crowd talking about D2, there are people like me who care about Judson, Tyler Lee, Trinity, Westfield, and North Shore who are top teams in D1 most years.

They lost a ton of kids on the Offensive line!:p That was too easy to pass up!:D Trinity will be pretty good every year and 2006 won't be any different.

Trinity lost the best backfield in the state. Going to be almost impossible to replace Vittatoe,Nance, and Handy. The offensive line took a hit too,but from what I hear this years line will be bigger and faster. Our RB will be by committee. Ryan Taggart will be our QB. He has 2 of the WR'S returning. Our kicker will be returning. The defense didn't get enough credit. They gave up 1 Td in the semi's and state championship game. 6 of those guys are leaving. I believe after our nad busting scrimmage(CARTER and MIDLAND) AND OUR NON-DISTRICT(TYLER LEE, WACO, and ODESSA PERMIAN) these kids will be more than ready for district. Playing these top class teams has been great for us these past 2 years and the results have shown(semi's 2004 and State Champs 2005). HAKAAAAAAA!!!:D :D
