I'm not a rap fan (I don't HATE it, just don't listen to it much) so.....
Who are is the best band from the 80's?? (For the old geezers like myself). They can have formed before the 80's and stayed together after.
Anything from Metallica to Van Halen...
Personally, my fave was Queensryche.

I'm gonna have to go with AC/DC *sorry if they weren't 80's I was born in 1989* lol...
Personally though in the 90's Nirvana was my favorite. and the 60's Hendrix was the man

Hahaha...Queensryche. I would have to thank Geoff Tate for writing Silent Lucidity... I definitely made a baby to that song. :D
Personally, I loved Anthrax. Also, early Metallica was tough to beat.

There are allot of good ones for sure. KISS, AC/DC/, U2, RUSH, VH, Motley Crue the list goes on and on. Ted Nugent is one of my favorites but he started before the 80's and is still going. (he can hunt too) The Hairband Ballads were the best!

hahaha... BigArab. I bet you aren't alone.
Okay, U2 wasn't considered a rock band way back when. AC/DC was and they were amazing... "BACK IN BLACK!!!!"
Best concert I saw in the 80's - ZZTOP, so I would have to mention them too. Still like them!

So much of the GREAT music in the 80's came from bands that started in the late 60's and 70's. And that music is still great by today's standards, ie, AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Nugent, etc.
Many of the bands that started in the 80's died in the 80's, or should I say burnt out in the 80's. ;) They were great, but not allot of legends came out of the 80's. There were a few but not allot. IMO

We got to meet them when they played at Dos Amigos here in Odessa about two months before their first record took off. The drummer was the nicest guy and just hilarious! Brett was just eye candy for the girls.

Ok, it looks like some of you need a remedial course in "What Is Metal?"
Not Metal- INXS (?!), Def Leopard (hair), Poison (hair), ACDC (hard rock), Queensryche (prog rock), Depeche Mode (pop), Rush (prog rock), Whitesnake (hair), Van Halen (rock), Bon Jovi (rock) and especially not Motley Crue (hair)
Fringe Metal- Scorpions, Deep Purple
METAL- Metallica (all around), Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath (nuff said), Slayer (speed), Anthrax (thrash), Megadeth, Manowar, Exodus, Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest
Class dismissed. :)

Hey, KT2000, My band plays some Judas Priest!! The lead guitarist was in the original line-up with Twisted Sister, left that band and played for an East coast band called TT Quick. You forgot to mention that U2 is definitely not Metal. It's interesting that a 60's rock band (Steppenwolf) coined the term 'Heavy Metal' yet were singing about Harley choppers.

No. Rush= Progressive Rock. Billy Squire...umm no.
In response to other posts above...I'm guessing Metalmania was a VH1 special...therefore it= crap. Hair bands are not metal. It's Glam Rock.
GnR wasn't all out glam (though they were close), so they can qualify as fringe. The only remotely metal album GnR did was Appetite for Destruction, but songs like Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine, etc. prevent it from being considered a true metal album.
No Motley Crue, Warrant, Poison, Whitesnake, Def Leopard, etc., etc. allowed in a metal discussion. Basically, any band with the words "Oh, Baby" in a song can't be in a sentence with the word metal.

I don't know if you decided to skip part of what I wrote, but I did specify Journey is in no way metal. I just think it'd be a little much to create an entirely new thread talking about all the other 80s music. Although we can, if you'd like. I mean this is gonna be a hell of a long off-season...

No, no, I know what you said. And I agree with you about Journey. I was just making a joke because KT2K didn't like some of the bands I picked. And I know he is serious about is metal. :D I am not sure Journey would even be in his vocab. (jk)

Good job!
I'm not sure exactly where the line is between metal and hard rock, so I put them in the same category. (my favorite type of music)
Here are a few hard rockers that played consistantly the fastest:
Motorhead, The Ramones, Saxon, Eddie & the Hot Rods, and (early) J. Giles Band.

Well if we are talking old geezers, I go back to the Beatles era - I actually saw them live on Ed Sullivan - I was only four but I remember it.
As for the 80's, I don't remember much about the music except what my teenage brother in law was singing at the time - I was just too busy with babies. BUT, a few years ago, Enron sent a few of us on a trip to NYC where we were supposed to be going to a class but they also bought us tickets for plays too...now we know where all THAT money went -went to Disney World on their dime too.
back to my story - so, I went to see Jeckyl and Hyde and had the pleasure of meeting a singer named Sebastian Bach - cool fellow that one - and he grabbed my camera and took a picture of us together. If I could figure out how to post it on here, I would. He was like 6'8" and dressed in full leather - I was having hot flashes. Anyway, that would be my favorite 80's metal rock musician but I've never heard him sing anything but Broadway tunes.

Bach was the lead singer for Skid Row. Another fringe, borderline glam/metal band in the mold of Guns N Roses.
