and enough about the hype of tre newton he has not done anything special yet. luna was better his sophmore year. put any old running back witht he offense SLC has last year and they would do the same

hey kool, you need to watch tre, we have already seen somethings that most sophmores, or jrs. don't ever get in his physical aspects. as time goes by, he will be everything you would want in a rb.

im not putting him down im just saying lets not praise him just yet until he becomes a leader. last year he was a follower when he steps up and is looked up to from his team mates for his leadership and not his name then people can say hes gods gift to this earth. i think he has the skill to do this as well just hasnt yet thats all

Luna ran a 4.37 at the A&M Nike camp and could run over people. He was very special, but it's not like he did'nt have skills! Tre should really show what he's got this upcoming season...he has a chance to be really special, but to say any old running back could excell in the Dragon's offense is silly...the RB in the Carroll spread has to be multi-dimensional, must block, run like the wind, catch and read the d very well.

SV is still in 5A. Their branch off high school is taking forever to open due to delay after delay. Had it opened when it was originally intended it be, it would have already been open for a while now.

yea ill give it to ya that tre newton is going to be good,,,but, im not sure he will be the best Running back in the state his senior year which is what u guys are kinda sounding like. I dont see him as a Jamal Charles, Benson, Peterson type back. Hes more Tech syle running back. But thats just my opinion.

I'm with you..I don't know if he is a classic RB in the mold of Charles, Benson, Adrian Peterson...he is good enough that he got 175 yards against a good Katy team..as a sophmore! How good will he get? Only he can determine that..

linebackers should be hazel, russel, and the 3rd spot should be ether dustin atkinson or blaine saatholf,d-tackle is up in the air.

and dominic hamilton ive heard will be a backup quarterback this year instead of a starting cornerback.dosnt make alot of sense to me,but he would fill ether position great.

Luna was a great (RB) for SLC. I always thought he ran with a lot of power, speed and skill. I remember watching the last SLC vs Lufkin game and he made a great "one-handed" catch on a swing pass out of the backfield for like a 15 yard gain.

Dang good player.

Hearing from some of the under classmen at SV the roomer was..

Tyler Hazel- weakside
Blaine Saathoff-Middle
Zach Russell-Strong
Atkinson and harding backing up Hazel and Russell.

All are great individuals. Hearing from my son, Blaine ran a 4.5 and zach ran a 4.7 and Hazel ran a 4.7 40. There speed is going to be very hard to stop on the field. Look for all three next season to shine.

I also heard some where that Parsin was going to D tackle???

No matter who they have playing SV has always had a solid D, which is especially impressive is they are never the biggest/strongest/fastest, they just seem to get it done somehow. Their special teams are ALWAYS top notch and a good number of their points come off of special teams plays (blocked kicks/punts and fake plays) which is a staple of their system. While they lack a "highlight reel" type of offense I've noticed that which each passing year the are implementing more and more spread O plays, which eventually will work, but I'm not quite certain the Hill boy has the arm for it (but then again I haven't seen him throw lately so he may have gotten better). I would like to see an SV QB that did have the arm (like '02's Laron Bybee) use the growing system they have now, thatd be scary.

To make a long story short the defense of SV doesn't really concern me its more of a "have they worked out the problems they had last year on O" type of deal just because its seems to me that when they needed to put big numbers up on the board they'd get flustered and couldn't produce, all while the D is slowly getting tired from being on the field so much.

Correct the small things and they have a legit shot at a title run IMO.

its going to be interesting to see how the D does last year but when i played we always wanted to be on the field for instance during the clear lake game we were praying to let us back on half the time with the way the O was playing

For sure, defense wins championships and the way the SV's O played in that game was horrendous and took a strong Defensive stand from SV to pull through. When you don't play good D you dont even give yourself a chance to win (i.e. SV vs. SLC in '03 45-14) but it seems that win the SV D is clickin, then it inspires to at least TRY and win it and doesn't seem so out of reach (i.e. SV vs. SLC in '05 27-24)

For the record, the 45-14 game was in '02 and the 27-24 game was in '04.

Your point in the two SV vs SLC games is really a rather simplistic view of “the single” variable that resulted in their respective results. I’m not so sure that the play on the “other side of the ball” didn’t have as much to do the outcome.

BTW, Not an attempt on my part to hijack. But given the opening to correct the dates, I simply couldn’t shut up on the other!

Sorry.

my apologies, i have a tendancy to refer to when they graduated as opposed to the season they played.

simplistic, yes, but gets my point across
