One of the best and oldest rivalries in the Houston area! Rankings and stats are all thrown out the window for bragging rights between these two neighbors. :heli:
Going with LaPorte......as of NOW they are the D2 favorite in region 3(assuming Katy goes D1). They have seperated themselves from the pack by playing great defense. I watched Deer Park struggle past Westside...maybe they were looking forward to this game.
Going with with the Bulldogs by 3 scores.

I mentioned this in an earlier post...this is the best La Porte team I have seen in the 16 years I have lived in La Porte. Not necessarily the most talented, but definetly the best team.
Past teams had more individual talent but they did not have the discipline to combine with the talent.
This team has talent, discipline, heart AND the coaching. The past couple of years it has been a combination of the above mentioned traits that have carried the Bulldogs 3 rounds deep into the playoffs.
IF Katy goes D1, then I like the Dawgs to go the furthest they have ever been.
Having said that...I think they will destroy Deer Park. It will be over by halftime. ;)

I have to agree with aug here. I have lived in LP since 1997 and this is our best team. I do think this is the most talented team as well though. The defense is a force to be reckoned with. I'm not sure if it will be over at halftime, but I'm thinking DP will have a very hard time putting many points on the board.
I have a preview at the blog.

Hate to be the downer here, but I think we're getting carried away with the "game over by halftime" mentality. La Porte's rushing strength plays right into the hands of dp's best assets: their defensive line! Coach Massey comes from Katy, and they've always had a tradition of having great defenses, and La Porte has had a little trouble with that tradition of late. That being said, the dp offense doesn't scare me in the slightest, especially with what may be the best, nastiest Bulldog defense since Shaun Rogers was tearing up opposing offensive lines. Now from what I've read in the Atascocita game, LaReau unleashed McNeil a bit more, and hopefully he continues that this week, I'm seeing more of a 21-10 sort of game in which our defense sets the tone, and we all get to eat some Bambi burgers! :D

...I like that!!!
I agree with you to a point, but looking at the avg. rush per carry (5.35) they allow, tells me that things aren't quite the same as they used to be. And giving up 17 yds per reception and giving up 24 pts a game, really bodes well for LP who avg. 38 points a game.

My sons best friend from Katy now plays for LP so I pick LP to rout The Deer! Go Hickey! :D
If you're talking about Chris Hickey, he has done very well and had a touchdown on a blocked punt vs Baytown Lee and also a interception in that game when he came in with the backups. Against Atascocita he actually got in with the first team on about 1/3 of the plays and made one big hit on a back coming around the edge. I've been impressed and the coaches are rewarding him. No surprise if he is from Katy... :D

I really think that if La Porte plays like they are capable of playing on both sides of the ball, it shouldn't be a close game. Having said that, I think Deer Park will bring any and everything out of their bag of tricks to keep them in the game. I.E. offensive Tom Foolery, fake punts, surprise onside kicks, etc. I think this will have to happen for the Deer to stay in the game. Just my thoughts.

I believe that deer park will be the toughest test so far for laporte but the port will win this game. I will root for all 215a teams this weekend because it seems like we are all playing 225a teams. So lets represent this weekend and then get down to business next weekend.

I would agree with this, because of the rivalry factor. Many times in the past there have been teams from either of these schools who may have been 1-8, or 8-1, and the underdog won. so like thebone stated earlier, you can throw out the records in this one. it's a back yard brawl.

And for any/all LP fans out there- does anyone know if they're going to bring the barbq pits to Ashbier for the game? I've really gotten attached to eating those sausages-on-a-stick and the turkey legs, it just doesn't seem like a La Porte game without them, unless they're planning to serve venicen afterwards :D

I think DP's only chance is if they lock down LP's offense all day. DP is going to have a very hard time getting points on offense. Last year was 7-2 LP, so it could happen, who knows... Overall I think LP will win by 3 scores though.

No, I don't think DP would be to keen on LP bringing their BBQ pit over to the Deer stadium. The booster club still sells them at home games. Both items are excellent and taste even better watching the Bulldogs playing lights out.:D

Haha...no I cheered for them...the cheer squad and drill team could have played better than they did however! Those NS football days were not fun...scores I guess...games were fun...losing stunk! The best team NS had back then was 1975...9-1 with a loss to Baytown Sterling 7-0.

DP is way too vanilla... anyone with a little talent and creativity on offense is going to be able to beat them. I haven't been a fan of Massey since after his first season there...

I agree. I think Massey still thinks he's in Katy, where the players will lay down their lives, run through a wall of bullets, fall on grenades, etc, for the program. Knowing the idiots I did who went to dp, they've got the mentality it seems, that they're gonna go out afterwards and get drunk/laid anyways, so in the end its not that big a deal. There's no reason dp shouldn't have won last year's game by 3 TD's, but wow, talk about predictability! Onyechi to the left, Onyechi to the right, and if they were feeling adventurous, a play-action call in which usually ended up with Sutherland taking out the quarterback. Unless you have massive amounts of discipline like you do in Katy, or talent like you do in North Shore, that kind of play-calling/strategy just isn't gonna cut it at the 5A level anymore, and it shows whenever they go 1 and out in the playoffs year after year

Abshier holds 10,000. Bulldog Stadium (it will always be D.O. Laird to me), Im not sure of the capacity but Ive heard 8,000 but I saw on a website saying it holds 10,000 which Im not believing. Ive been watching the Dawgs from 1987 when Curvin Richards played, even when I went to school there and still today and I cant see the stadium holding 10K.
On a side note, Pasadena Memorial Stadium is one of the biggest in the area with a capacity of 16,800 and Stallworth Stadium in Baytown hold 16,500.

Thanks for the info, yeah I call BS on Laird holding 10K, and while Pasadena Memorial may hold 16K plus, I don't think I've ever seen it full- so whats the big deal? Same with Stallworth, although I haven't been to Baytown in years, don't really miss that stinky place though. Where's everyone sitting? Its not hard to find me, my right leg is messed up so I walk around with a black cane in my left hand, which has a silver top-handle instead of the usual curved handle. I've got dark hair and black glasses also so if you see me don't be a stranger, go Bulldogs!
And hopefully the sportswriters remember, its "La Porte", not "LaPorte"- two words!

I'd highly recommend anyone who's going to the game to park as far away from the stadium as possible- we're planning to park around the local business next to the stadium. It may be a pain in the butt walking back and forth through the parking lot, but its gonna be a heckuva lot better than waiting 30-45 min to get out of that death trap known as Abshier Stadium. Go Bulldogs!
