Hey folks, you may or may not know about the Massey Ratings system, but I thought I would post the state of Texas link here and let you do the narrowing down by classification, region, district and team if you want.
Pretty neat as Massey uses more of a numeric formula to determine rankings and such.

13-5A's representation:
# 12 - Klein
# 23 - Klein Collins
# 28 - Westfield
# 38 - Dekaney
# 39 - Klein Oak
# 88 - Klein Forest
#103 - Tomball
#136 - Spring
So, ceteris peribus (pardon the spelling), one of the 40 best teams in the entire state, regardless of classification wouldn't make the playoffs.

It is an algoritm, devoid of human opinion my friend. It is much like the calpreps site and both have been very, very good at projecting. Not 100% for sure, but very good nonetheless. :)

Don't be too quick to judge the numerical system employed in these rankings. Considering that Massey is ranking virtually every high school (and college) in the United States, by state and with each other, it is a remarkable achievement to even come within handwaving distance, especially this early in the season.

Well no offense to whoever posted this and to their system, but it is COMPLETELY off base. if i had a poll that listed tomball in the top 12 in the state people would say it's a joke and lose all respect for it, and rightfully so. same thing as klein, they would even admit theyre not a top 12 team in the state. ridiculous...and youre wrong, no its not very good nonetheless

they had a nice postseason run, but lets not forget they did only go 4-3 in district play and made the playoffs because of a tiebreaker. not to mention they only return 6 starters from that team, not to mention they lost their head coach and are putting in an entirely new offense.

Like a couple of posts stated...Massey uses an algorithim to come up with each teams numbers. Before you start hating Massey or other simular rating systems, educate yourself and track not just one team but a couple for a few weeks to see their numbers change on a weekly basis. For each team, Massey has several areas that they rank...every Monday around 1pm in the afternoon all the numbers for each area for every school change.
True, it's not 100%, but still very accurate none-the-less.

Why would people not look at just one team? would you take the ncaa top 25 poll serious if it had temple listed in the top 12?
and ok, lets take a look at another team in that district, westfield at 19 in the state. COMON MAN....really?? would you like me to keep going here?? and stop using an algorithim as an excuse for having an extremely flawed poll.

can you honestly tell me that you agree with those two state rankings???

IMO, 13-5A is turning out to be a pretty tought district in the GHA, might even be the toughest from top to bottom. Klein may have a new coach, a new offense, and a lot of new starters, but they have a plethoria of talent. and it is showing up on the field. I think Massey has it right my friend. :notworthy

well im ratting out my own team on the massey gig which i find to be very inaccurate...San Antonio James Madison is ranked 55 and we all should know by now they are at least a top 5 school so get a clue will ya massey...ok just kidding with that but how are they ranked 55 and Kerrville Tivy is ranked 75...umm hello there genius massey..kerrville Tivy beat James Madison and you have them ranked 20 spots lower..you also have celina ranked in the top 50 hate to tell you they are a very good team but bring em to 5a and they get seriously beat up by the number 55 team..you cant mix classes cause they are getting their stats against weaker competition for the most part..not to knock any of the lower classes...hell we got beat by a 4a team this year and im sure there are 20 other 4a teams that can beat us..my opinion is that this is a bad poll

As far as West Texas is concerned, they have 3A Monahans ranked over just about every team in 3-5A except Abilene. The Loboes are a solid 3A program, but there is no way they are better than Permian, Midland Lee, Odessa High, Midland, Abilene Cooper, etc. No way.

I view Massey Predicts sort of like the GPS in my car... It's only intended to be an aid to navigation. I still have to apply common sense to what it's telling me.
The other thing that can be confusing is that this is a statistical algorithm, and in Texas they rank just under 1200 schools. This means that a school with a ranking of say 50, is statistacally a tie with a school ranked at 86 (+/- 3%).
Again, the Massey Prediction is just a guide. Just like the GPS, you have to apply common sense to determine the validity of the data presented. Just because the GPS says turn left - over the washed out bridge - doesn't mean you should blindly follow it.
Those of you close to any team in question will of course see the flaws. This is good. You're exercising your cammon sense. But if you're trying to get an idea of how your team stacks up against a team you know nothing about... well Massey may be one of the best tools to assist you. In fact, for one team I'm following they have been accurate in predicting the winner 100% this season.
Remember... it's just an aid. The kids still have to get out there and play the game.

That was well said friend. Unfortunately, there are just way too many of those common sense teams that are not where they should be listed at for my liking.

The Massey system is great to look at (sometimes) but I would trust anything that was writen as a modified verision of Massey's man application which has been a key component of the college BCS ranking system since '99. I mean seriously does anyone trust the BCS?????

If it gives us a Boise St. vs. TCU championship game, I trust it... a 3rd straight year those two schools would be meeting in a bowl game.

You have to look at the algorithms just like the dream teams of old. The ones that pit the 78 Steelers vs. 85 Bears, and 72 Dolphins vs. 92 Cowboys. In truth, if the exact same players lined up, there would be more broken hips and fatalities than a train wreck. True, if a 3A team like Brownwood went up against a 5A team like Coppell, Coppell would probably come out on top. Due to the larger size of talent pool that the bigger schools have to pick from, 5A tends to have more cards to play especially if starters get injured. Does it mean 4A is not as good as 5A? No, but if the 4A starters get hurt, it damages to team a lot more. This algorithm takes into consideration of how teams perform against similar opponents. Will a 6-Man QB throw for 500 yds against a 2A defense? Probably not, but compare apples to apples and assign a number. Sort the numbers and come up with a power poll. Do I agree with the numbers? Not always. I like that the Coppell defense is #1:notworthy, but know that it is just a number.

Yes, it is good. Sorry buddy but Massey has been very accurate in years past. Did you read the previous posters about it being void of human opinion and is simply a mathematical alogrithm? I guess not.

I have to tell you, that any poll that has Klein rated higher than Dekaney is just flat wrong. Klein Collins managed to survive that game, and I am not sure anyone else in district can hang a L on them.
