Miserable half of football for the Bruins, you can't win games turning the ball over FIVE times in one half.

OK, let me just start out by saying this...Katy is the real deal. Plain and simple. WB's game plan was not wrong, IMO, but when you turn the ball over 5 times in the first half, and they score on all those TO's....that was the equalizer here folks. WB could play with this team. In the first half, they could not drive the field against us. WB, on the other hand, was moving the ball fairly well against the state's best defense. The game changed when Reyes went down. Stump was not ready to face a defense like Katy's, and it showed when he tried to run the offense. Reyes will be OK, and will probably be back next week against Lee. My hats off to Katy, ya'll were the best team tonight. We got a bad case of "I cant hold onto the ball", and ya'll made us pay. That is what good teams are suppose to do. I would like to have seen what we might have been able to do against ya'll if Reyes hadn't gotten hurt. Katy was able to capitalize on our mistakes and fumbles, and that is what makes them one of the state's premier teams. Katy will win the state title this year, IMO. Bruins will be fine, and will live to play another day. KUDOS.....much respect to Katy tonight.

It was pretty shocking to see how quickly WB deflated when Reyes went down. You can't be that reliant on one player and be a championship level team.
Katy eventually made some adjustments to WBs unconventional defense. Had the game still been somewhat competitive with Reyes still there, you would have seen a lot more of what Katy did in the first few minutes of the second half before shutting it down.

I have to agree...with or without Reyes this game was going to get ugly! Personally I think Katy had mercy on them which is a credit to Katy when you look at all the crap they talk.

I really makes me wonder....If you take all those TO's away, and Reyes hadn't gotten hurt, what would have happened in this game. I'd like to think we could have made it a more competitive game. It was almost like our offense quit when Reyes went down. Hopefully, we will be rebound from this embarrasing loss and take out Tyler Lee next week. One of the things that really bothered me, was how much our offense took a nose dive without Reyes in there. Throwing Stump in there was like watching Garrett Gilbert get thrown in the National Championship game last year against Alabama. He will only get better from this experience. Again, my hats off to Katy......ya'll are bar none the best team in Texas. I hope we dont have to see ya'll in the playoffs this year. Come on Katy Taylor!!!!! LMAO!:D

This! Just got back from the game! Reyes is certainly the difference maker for BWB. W/o him, BWB is average, at best. Katy looked very good. I like the balance the Tigers have. I must admit that Katy looks, right now, like the best team in 19-5A. How far ahead of CR? Not far enough to consider it a done deal. QB play and overall defensive play is the biggest difference.
On a side-note: Taylor and Haack will be BEASTLY to deal w/ in 2011!

Well, thats easy to say when you've got three offenses worth of players out there. Unfortunately, we dont have that. We have to play what we have. You should see the post someone made on the other board.....I'll post it here if t hasn't been deleted. Lemme check. Ahhh, here it is......
Well, the BISD administration has spent the last 30 years doing everything possible to run all of the white people out of BISD and to make sure no white kids play football in BISD. So, I find it a bit ironic that we hardly play any white kids and are being dominated by a nearly all white team. Why don't we have any white kids playing football? when you only allow the black kids to play then you are shorthanded right off the bat. Oh well, maybe someday BISD will realize that whites aren't totally stupid.

Good game Katy, we'll see you again...and round 2 will be a little different.
Trust me Sarge, you dont want no more......If we saw katy again it would be the third round.....assuming Katy and WB both win their districts. Just to clarify this, In 2000, Katy played Alief Elsik in the regular season and won 49-3. In the playoffs that year, Katy won 54-14. In 2002, Katy played Humble in the regular saeson and won 37-36. In the playoffs, Katy beat them 24-7. In 2004, Katy played Jersey Village and won 21-14 in the regular season. In the playoffs that year, Katy won 31-7. So you see, Katy doesn't falter in the playoffs....they only get better. I could do fine without seeing them again this year. I dont think the outcome in the playoffs would be much different. Sorry, just sayin......

When your whole team depends on the QB running the ball then you expose him to injuries. It's a dangerous game and when that is all you have it stands to reason you lose. Reyes doesn't equal Vince Young no matter how you try to make it so.

You don't see many players showboating when your down by 35!!
Katy could have put up 60+ if they wanted to. Our back up back ups saw plenty of action.
I loved the standing ovation that Nick got when he came in. Matt Dimon had two great hits.
Katy came back home with all the white on them, red bellies and all!! Sometimes it is best to let your play on the field do your talking!!

I agree. I think its foolish to have your offense built around one person. The same thing happened two years ago when Christine Michael was in our backfield. But we will rebound, and we'll be OK.

You'd have to see the Administration to understand. I hate it, but this is the world we live in. Things that the rest of the world outgrew 40 years ago, still haven't necessarily changed in Beaumont....only the roles are reversed over here. I dont want to get a race war started, but people of certain ethnic heritages definitely have all the power in Beaumont. And they like to keep it that way.

Well, good morning. I was expecting and hoping for a much closer game. WB really stunk last night. Our Sophomore team could have played with them. It was unfortunate to lose your QB1, but that can happen when he is your only weapon. Regardless, the Tigers were just too much.
And yes, we are really that good. I was happy to see us tweaking the passing game. We know we have a solid ground game. I was digging the shotgun. Good to see #9 making big plays again. Scary to think he is only gonna get stronger.
Looking forward to district play and hoping for D1 playoff run and some real match ups with the states best. Fear the Tigers people.

It was pretty shocking to see how quickly WB deflated when Reyes went down. You can't be that reliant on one player and be a championship level team.
Katy eventually made some adjustments to WBs unconventional defense. Had the game still been somewhat competitive with Reyes still there, you would have seen a lot more of what Katy did in the first few minutes of the second half before shutting it down. this ... Simply put... what I witnessed, last night, was a BWB team that functioned only on the shoulders of one player vs a team w/ a ton of young talented depth... only getting better. Did Katy look as dominant as a Euless Trinity? No! But, Katy is certainly in the talk for the #2 spot in the state. Their balance, and potential, sold me on how good they can really be. I still think Cinco's James and K.C. are better than Katy's Young, Jefferies, and Taylor... but overall... Katy is clearly (like normal) the best team in the GHA. However, I plan to see Cinco (again), The Woodlands, and Pearland over the next month, so we'll see if any of those undefeated programs get better.
That Cinco Ranch vs Katy game just got a lot more interesting... if that was at all possible.

Depth and more depth. I was amazed when I counted only about 40 to 45 WB players fully dressed. Absolutely no way you can play deep with those Numbers. I truly do not think the outcome would have a lot different had #5 played. Adjustments and depth would have won out.

I agree with you 100%. We cannot compete and win the games we need to win with the 45-50 kids we have on the sidelines....we just cant. It was quite impressive to see the Katy machine in action last night. Constantly rotating in fresh legs......it wore out our defense. Playing with the players we have is fine in the Golden Triangle, and we usually dominate. But we cannot do that successfully against some of the states elite. Katy is where WB wants to be. The powers that be might want to look at adding some more depth to our program. Its not like we dont have the student population to do it. Just my .02

While we were texting last night and Reyes went out I told you "This isnt the game we wanted"...What I meant by that is that not only did losing Reyes hurt West Brook, it sort of hurt Katy, in a bit....you get better by facing the best. The challenge for Katy was would they "adjust"...now, we will never know. No pun intended, but if you "Feed" a Tiger too much, he forgets how to hunt.....you have to throw a live deer every once in awhile to let the Tiger be a Tiger and HUNT for it's meal.....keeps them from depending on man and when you release them into the wild, they starve because they forgot how to hunt. Game last night didnt prove anything, didnt try any new plays.....we were just ready to get out of the healthy when the score got to 35-7.

I didnt say we didnt respect them. After last night, I think everyone that supports WB respects them. All I was trying to say was that, typically, when Katy beats a team in the regular season, if they meet that team again in the playoffs, the outcome is usually the same.....ONLY WORSE the second time. You dont have to like what I had to say, but facts are facts. They would beat us again. Sorry. Personally, I could go without seeing them again. Now, dont go questioning my loyalty to my team by me saying these things. You know me well enough to know that I love and support my team, but that I also call them like I see them. And my gut feeling was right about last nights game, and my gut feeling is that we'd lose if we had to play Katy again.

Does anyone have the stats from last nights game. I like the way the second team offense put together a solid drive in the third quarter. Actually looked better than the 1st team in the first half. The only good drive out of the 1st team offense came when the refs spotted the punt at the 1 foot line. Katy put together a 50 yard drive there. Other than that we had to settle for fumbles, penalties and turn overs to help us move the chains. Seems we ended up with the short field most of the time with Westbrook's mistakes. I also give a lot of credit to Katy's defense.

Based on the game I saw, losing Reyes wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game, just the score. I understoof what you were saying, but by that time, I was so disgusted by what I was seeing I was ready to go home. But at my wife's suggestion, we stayed till the end of the turd quarter...I mean, third quarter. It just got too out of control for us too early. We wouldn;t have been able to come back even if Reyes had returned to the game. Looks strangely familiar to the Cinco game last season. We've got to quit doing this to ourselves.

The stats look closer that I expected after the final score. As far as the field position.....well, it was all in our half of the field all night. We gift wrapped a short field for Katy all night, and great teams take it and run with it. Thats exactly what Katy did with it.

I don't really have that stat as a stat, but here's what I could out from my updates.
Katy 1st Half Starting Field Postion & Results
WB 5 - TD
KT 48 - Intreception
WB 16 - TD
? - TD (This was the Reyes injury/ fumble. Best memory is this was well in to WB territory)
WB 17 - TD
midfield - Punt (within a couple of yards of the 50.)
WB -38
Haven't dug through the 2nd half (and probably won't.)

Very nice pregame at Katy-Westbrook in Beaumont. A message with condolences followed by a moment of silence for the young man and the West Orange-SE Tex community. The cheer leaders were collecting and raising money for the family. Very emotion pregame. You could have heard a pin drop.

This dichotomy is usually the result of a play making defense that either scores points themselves or gives the offense a very short field to work with. The offense simply can't put huge yardage because they either don't get the ball or they don't have far to go.

can't always look at the usual stats, sometimes the team matchups are a better cursor to who the team really is. Stats that I like to see are, scoring inside the 20, field position and time of position.

This is what will make the difference vs Cinco Ranch.

Geez, you mean Taylor and Haack will be back next year? Damn, that sucks for ........everybody!

This dichotomy is usually the result of a play making defense that either scores points themselves or gives the offense a very short field to work with. The offense simply can't put huge yardage because they either don't get the ball or they don't have far to go.
For KtCarl -
dichotomoy [dahy-kot-uh-mee] noun
division into two mutually exclusive, opposed, or contradictory groups: a dichotomy between thought and action.
Is this a football term? Wait that would offense v defense:) Football vocabulary....

Actually is the case the noted dichotomy was between the statistics and the winning margin.
Looking at those statistics you would expect a close game.

Man, I have been a Katy hater since 1994. But I cant help but be terribly impressed, and envious, with your program over there. Ya'll have got great coaching and a great staff, with great numbers participating in your program. You guys have set the model that other teams aspire to be like. Whatever ya'll are doing over there, it's working. Keep it up. Ya'll are slowly converting me over to the Dark Side......:D I still love my Bruins, but I cant help but like what ya'll do, and I'd like to.....nah, I cant say that!

I watched the game on the internet. BWB is literally the same team that Cinco beat in the playoffs last year.
The difference between Katy and BWB is this. BWB QB goes down, Katy wins easily. If any key player for Katy (QB or anybody else) goes down, Katy stills wins.
If these teams play again in round 3 or 4 of the playoffs, it will be the same result.
Hope BWB's QB is okay.

Depth and more depth. I was amazed when I counted only about 40 to 45 WB players fully dressed. Absolutely no way you can play deep with those Numbers. I truly do not think the outcome would have a lot different had #5 played. Adjustments and depth would have won out.
Glad to see you coming over to the Dark Side;)

You have a great stadium. Good sight lines and a lot of space. I have to confess when I first saw the name of the facility stretching across the press box it reminded me of a story.
"Once upon a time there were 11 cowboys who pooled their money and bought a ranch. They were all the best of partners and knew their ranch would be a success. All went well until they had to design a brand for the ranch and they could not agree because each of them had an idea of what it should look like and what letters it should contain to represent each one of them. Since they were such good partners they decided to compromise and include all the ideas of the 11 cowboys. After the first calving season the ranch went broke. None of the calves survived the branding process." :D
Here is a link to the stadium listing with a new picture:

Beautiful stadium aesthetically speaking. Felt very far away from the action (sat a 3rd of the way from the top in the top section on the 50). Couldn't clearly see the entire playing surface (sideline) when everyone was sitting or everyone was standing. For the last two reasons I didn't care for the stadium at all.

Agree. The top section went too far back instead of up.
But....a great job by the BISD police getting everyone out of the parking lot and out to the Freeway!

Several things that I didnt like:
You couldnt see the players from the top level standing on the sidelines.
There were only one set of down markers being used and they were hard to see from the upper level on the visitor side.
No access to the players after the game in the bus parking lots.
Very nice stadium though.... The speaker system needs to be fixed for the wireless microphone... : )

Something else that is odd about the stadium is that the visitor side will seat more people than the home side. To me it looked like both sides are equal in size but the home side had the entire section with fixed seats which would seat less than the bench seating. Can anyone confirm this?
Big Daddy Cool

I don't remember the exact number but I saw a sign on the home side that said seat capcity of like 8,200. Of course one of our West Brool brethren can give us the exact numbers I'm sure.

so that would be 2,300 on the visitors side?

I don't like stadiums with tracks. But the upperdeck is too steep. At Berry and Pridgedon you can see the sidelines.....we were up high on the 50 and couldnt see the sidelines, the band walking in...etc.....you almost had to stand to see plays coming to that side of the field....
Nice Stadium though, Very nice.

Stadium supposedly seats 10,500. You might be able to squeeze more than 1/2 on the visitor side because of the reserved seating on the home side. Not sure about that. The visitor side seats at least 5200.
