If the South would've won........

we would a had it made.
I'd probably run for president of the southern states.
The day Elvis passed away would be our national holiday.
If the south would a won we would a had it made.
I'd make my supreme court down in Texas and we wouldn't have no killers getting off free.
If they were proven guilty then they would swing quickly,
instead of writing' books and smiling' on T.V.
We'd all learn Cajun cooking' in Louisiana
and I'd put that capital back in Alabama.
We'd put Florida on the right track, 'cause we'd take Miami back
and throw all them pushers in the slammer.

Oh if the south would a won we would a had it made.
I'd probably run for president of the southern states.
The day young Skynyrd died, we'd show our southern pride.
If the south would a won we would a had it made.
"Play a little Dixieland boys. Ah yes!"

I'd have all the whiskey made in Tennessee
and all the horses raised in those Kentucky hills.
The national treasury would be in Tupelo, Mississippi
and I'd put Hank Williams picture on one hundred dollar bill.
I'd have all the cars made in the Carolina's
and I'd ban all the ones made in China.
I'd have every girl child sent to Georgia to learn to smile
and talk with that southern accent that drives men wild.
I'd have all the fiddles made in Virginia, 'cause they sure can make 'em sound so fine.
I'm going up on Wolver ton Mountain and see ole Clifton Cowers and have a sip of his good ole Arkansas wine.

Hey if the south would a won we'd a had it made.
I'd probably run for president of the southern states.
When Patsy Cline passed away that would be our national holiday.
If the south would a won we'd a had it made.
Olay he he he . I said if the south would a won we would a had it made!

Might even be better off!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist...... :)

If the south had won....

my mother's side of the family would have kept their plantation and wouldn't have lost everything when the north came down and punished everyone.

Assuming my dad would still have been born and met my mother and I would have still been the lucky sperm to make it on that arbitrary night, I would be uber rich and probably loving life right now more than I try to already.

Oh well.

I think it is rather foolish to assume that slavery would still be around in any fashion today had the South won the war. The political movement at that time was so strong that regardless of the outcome on the fields of battle, change was inevitable.

I think it is more logical to assume that had the Confederacy won the war, the South simply would have remained it's own nation. Remember, the South had already seceded from the US before the war began. Reality is that had the Confederacy won, you would probably have at least two separate nations right now in stead of the US we all know now. I think it is even further logical to assume that we could have three separate nations because I believe Texas would have seceded and gone back to being it's own Republic. Texas wasn't really in the Civil War because of slavery, but because of the issues that really drove the Civil War.

Remember, the Civil War was not so much a battle of slavery as it was a battle of state's rights. The state's that would eventually form the Confederacy were strongly opposed to the ever growing Federal government, and believed that more power should be entrusted to the states and that was the central force that led to the Civil War. All else, including slavery, was nothing more than a branch of that central battle. It was that theme that drew Texas in to the war.

The reality is that had the Confederacy won, you would probably have one nation (the North) that closely resembles what America is today in terms of it's government and ideas, and a separate nation (the South) that would have probably abandoned slavery within' the near future anyway, but the government would be vastly different. I would imagine you would have a government in which the majority of power is held at the state level. Any kind of Federal government would probably be rather weak and nothing more than unified representation of the collective of states. It is logical to assume that each state would have a powerful leader and maybe it's own court system and laws. It is hardly logical to assume that slaves would be sold on QVC had the South won.

Frankly, this sounds like a Michael Moore film. Very light on the facts and very heavy on the shock and emotion so as to appeal to and dupe the ignorant masses who choose to be spoon-fed a distorted view of reality rather than think for themselves.

Slavery would've ended eventually anyway. Technological advances provided for turning a larger profit. It was actually REALLY expensive to keep slaves. That's why only the big plantations had them.

DO NOT fool yourself dragon. Just because the north didn't believe in slavery does not mean they liked black people. They were still racist, and there was still plenty of segregation. Yes, African Americans were allowed into the Union Army, but they were not in the same units as whites.

A new reality show where expert moive make up artists make a Black Family White and a White family Black and let them go out into the world to see how we treat one another when the other one is not around. Sort of like a spoof Eddie Murphy did back in the day, but this time it's on a serious note.

But back to what this thread was about. As someone pointed out earlier. If the South won, there would be north and south. Slavery would've most likely been phased out at some point. Due to the inventions of farm machinery. And I think by this time the slave trade ended.

Yeah, it is. Bruno may have a point when he said some of the racism may just be how a person percieves it. Like how he was treated at the car lot was the same as when he was white. And how they were walking down the street, people moved out of their way. Bruno took this as them being nice, while the real black guy (can't remember his name) took it as them staying away because of their color.

I didnt see that part but I understand it pretty well. I mean, I'm not saying were all the same cause lets face it we're all different. But we are equal. Because when I saw it on good morning america it had LL cooljay or whoever is the creater talking about how "white people should go through what a black person has to face everyday"

I agree...I tend to think the Black guy was "Looking for it" to try to prove a point to Bruno. No matter WHAT color you are...people treat you like you treat them...SOMETIMES. But also know that walking around one day as a black man is not gonna give you the whole "Black Experience" I expected more out of it...hopefully it gets better. I kinda felt bad for the white kid who was saying he was taught to wash his hands off after shaking a black guys hand....I honestly think he felt bad about it.

ANOTHER Story....did anyone watch America's Next Top Model and the girl from Spring? A classic example of "Talking too much" I dont think she was racist..but how do you go in and say "You hate gays...this that"...when 99.9% of the modeling business, designers, make up artists, etc....are openly gay?

Actually there were accounts of slavery up into the 1960’s; if the south had won you probably would have slavery in the form of servitude as well as plantations. Slavery is still in the Alabama Constitution as well as the confederate constitution and I think Mississippi changed theirs in the 1990’s. You would have Jim Crow which was as equally worse, putting people in prison on trumped up charges so they could work as free labor for businesses, segregation, murder, stealing of land, willful **** of women, some inventions/innovations might not had happened. On a world view Israel might not exist, the Ottoman Empire might control Europe, the Japanese might control Asia and Prussia (modern day Iran and Iraq) might control the Middle East. I think the North and South would not even exist, what is now Mexico and/or Canada might have invaded.
