How far will Trinity Go?

The Trojans have a pretty salty record since the arrival of Steve Lineweaver.
After many successful years at Commerce, he has taken marginal talent and made 2 trips to the state semi-finals and posted one of the winningest records during that time frame. On paper it would appear that THS will benefit from an easier road in Division 1 as they did last year. I think they will likely end up playing Tyler Lee once again but I have to qualify that by stating my affiliation (THS Class of 87). I'd be curious to know what you "fellow experts" think of their chances - and of Coach Lineweaver.

Respectfully submitted,

The Great Evaluator.

Coach Lineweaver is a great coach and I think Trinity will do very well. They Return alot of talent from last year's team. Including thier starting QB.RB.FB,and district sophmore of the year TE.

Coach Lineweaver has always been one of my favorite coaches and is a very underrated coach. He has one state tilte and should have a co-championship but instead elected to go for 2 in 95 against Sealy and came up just short. Southlake during their 3A days was a power, but it could be argued that they did not become dominant until Lineweaver arrived to run the offense. I think the results he had at Southlake speak for itself. I wish he would have come to take over the Farmer program, but he has a good thing going over at Trinity.

I also have been a big fan of the Trojans since 93, they used to play a lot of games behind us at Tx Stadium during out title run, and they have just been a favorite of mine since. I remember watching them and Plano in a all out war during the 93 semis, that Trojan team might have been the best Trinity team to ever walk the halls in that school. I think they have a great shot at winning a state title this year and would love to see them bring one home for all the players that came up just a little bit short.

Coach Lineweaver's son Aaron (who played at Carroll) is in charge of Carroll Middle School Athletics in Southlake..a chip off the old block?

Lineweaver has quietly built a legacy that few can match. You guys all bring up good points about Carroll taking off once he arrived - I always thought that was no coincidence. Then he takes Commerce to a 3a state power - then resurrects a Trinity program that was going nowhere. In fact when he was an assistant at Trinity in the early to mid 80's he was also the JV coach and that is where the legend started - 7 years of undefeated seasons earned him bigger and better positions. I was looking at his winning percentage at the varsity level and it was almost exactly the same as G.A. Moore's! I believe it stands at 85%. He seems to be a players coach and as for the Sealy loss, I would have done the same thing he did. I applaud a coach that plays for the win. It makes a great argument - should you kick the extra point and call it a state championship? Years later in the history books most people forget it was a tie ballgame. Personally with division 1 big school and division 2 little school - I kinda like someone who's got the stones to say we came to win! He later admitted he wished he would have kicked the xtra point but I give him credit - i was there - it was 15 degrees. After all that no one wants to see you "kiss your sister".

I hope he and the Trojans find a way to get back to state. It will likely come down to defense...Can they find enough. It will be interesting to see, they are in a tough district with quality coaches. SGP and David Fischer is my darkhorse.

Trinity's offense is going to be extremely tough for anyone to stop. The Trevor Vittatoe, Dmitri Nance and LaDerrick Handy trio should be fun to watch. I believe Trinity can get back to the semi-finals, and possibly further if they stay healthy on offense and improve over last year on defense. As TGE said, defense will be what has to push Trinity over the top in the playoffs.

I think Trinity will play Tyler Lee in semifinals again if Tyler Lee beat Garland.

I think that is a good possibility as well, but Trinity projects to have the tougher road right now. Most all of Region 2s strength will be in Division II; however, it is nearly the exact opposite with Region 1. Of course, this is all just according to the pre-season research we compiled and put on display in the Gridiron Guide and very much subject to change :D .

Careful, that's a big if. I dare to say that Williams Stadium does just as much for Garland as the Rose does for Lee. Something's different about those kids when they play at home.

Tyler Lee players don't have a problem with it and they feel like they will win anyway like they do at Rose. They have been beating teams on the road in the playoff.

KT, Trinity's defense should be vastly improved because thier are alot of returning starters on that side of the ball as well. The only concern I have is the secondary. They could be the strongest unit or worst. Good thing our district is geared toward the run.

I am a junior at trinity now and play on the football team backing up a couple of the best runningbacks in the state. I think we have the ability to go far in the playoffs this year. We have the coaching, the talent and we have the desire so lets see what we can do this upcoming season. I think I speak for all of the players at Trinity we are going to do our best for Coach Lineweaver along with the other coaches here and work our butts off to get us a state championship. I think Lineweaver deserves another dont you?

Lineweaver is a great coach and motivater. Nance is a bad boy--period!! look for Trinity to at least make it to the semis, if not bring home the title.................

Ed Hickmon did a great job at Trinity, went undfeated in 93 and again in 98, to bad they had they had Duncanville on a neutral field in 98 they might have been able to pull out the victory. Hickmon had some great teams while at Trinity and advanced to a state final as well as a semifinal, its just to bad that he had to deal with the situations that he did.

thsramos: One of the coaches on the staff is a guy named Jeff Kawolski, he was my posistion coach at Liberty in 98, the guy is as good a coach as I have ever had and will one day be a fine head coach, im glad to see him at Trinity and hope he gets his shot at a big time program one day.

Coach Kowalski doesn't coach at Trinity anymore. I went up to school to workout and one of the coaches told me he got a job somwhere else now. He was a good coach though. Also Dimitri is a very bad boy. This guy can juke you out of your shoes or just run over you. Right now he's holding offers from Missouri and UTEP. Go to trinitytrojanfootball.com and go to multimedia then look at the highlight tape. You will see why he's so special.

They might have. I haven't talked to him about offers in a while. He also said Oklahoma State was about to offer him.

I think they will be in the Semis in Region 1, against whomever.

If we do make to the semis I think we'll probably play Tyler Lee again or Garland. I think al three of these teams can win a state title.

Trinity has alot of power in there offense, I hope they do well, I really do even though there in the same district as Coppell...I think Coppell, Iriving, Trinity are the teams to beat in 6-5A
