I'm interested in knowing how many returning starters each team has... I'm counting 8/8 for Strake Jesuit. Biggest problem for SJ will be filling the shoes of the four top playmakers they will lose to graduation, and depth... Who else has what?

Carroll has the fewest returnees in recent memory...just makes it that much more fun to see who will step up! I'm sure the coaches feel the same way....:D

SLC's 2nd team would probably win most districts... Y'all just "reload"

I'll go ahead and set the over/under for Riley Dodge's total yards in '06 at 3,500. That's probably conservative.

As best I can see the Dragons return 2 starters on offense, Arius Ford WR and Tre Newton RB. the defense also returns 2 starters, the other Ford Twin, Anthony CB, and Linebacker Justin Padron.

no, im being dead serious...college park is going to be an option team, never played a varsity down...and magnolia had 2644 rushing yrds last year, and now they get to play lufkin and "teh" woodlands defense!!!!

Katy technically has 1 on O and 1 on D, but thats starters. We had a few ppl across the board that could have started but the coaches gave it to a Senior instead. We actually have 9 or 10 non starters with alot of experience. 2 or 3 of the backups we had made all district.

It looked more like another jab at some of the other teams in your district which, if form holds true, will be responded to by your rivals and lead to another juvenile thread...

Everyone has a "chance"..It really will be fun this year, watching who will step up...we know Riley and Tre will be very good, but who's going to block for them? I'm sure Coach Dodge has some ideas....

Humble has 5 returning lineman although one is headed to atascocita. I think all but the running back, quarterback, and one wide reciever are returning on offense and the defense is just full of returners.

I started to type it all, but I lost count. If we successfully fill in a few spots on the O Line, we'll be fine. The coaches always seem to put together a good line of quick strong guys every year. Knowing what is coming up from JV, I think we'll be good there.

D Line needs to replace the two tackles, but I see no issue with that either.

Backs on both sides of the ball will be solid and mostly returning starters.

Strake is losing a big time player in Tim Bandy who has grown up on the football field since being thrown in at varsity QB as a sophomore leading sj undefeated the rest of the season, had a tough junior year and then stepped up huge in 05. other players strake is losing are scott coffman at LB, brian algerier at DT, tyree at wr/fs, jonathan madsen at wr/k, ryan keel at de and carlos garcia at ot.
but with graduation comes the stepping up of other players. the youngters did exactly that in 05 and will be doing that in 06 too. most of them will still only be juniors! among these elite are jr davis burke at clutch and consistent WR/db, jr jeff mcvaney at rb/utility, sr moses ogbonnaya at db/wr, sr john stell at rb/db, and jr aaron jackson at ot.
strake was tough in 05 but they look to be even in tougher in 06. the 2 major gaps to be filled seem to be in the kicking game and quarterback. strake's last 2 kickers have been big time in jonathan madsen (no explanation needed) and current Rice kicker Luke Juist.
the last 4 quarterbacks have been tim bandy, chris ogbonnaya (texas-rb), mike bandy and a current Rice baseball scholarship player. this strong tradition at the QB position seems to not worry jesuit fans because the young ones are just as good. moses ogbonnaya, jeff mcvaney and a baytown lee transfer are the top 3 runners for the position.

If SJ ever has a media guide, you should write the copy. :) My concern is SJ having kids become difference makers like the graduates you mention did... Depth is also a concern but the freshmen teams did well so I'm sure some of those kids will play a big part of the upcoming season just like the sophs did last year... Seems like every team has these concerns every year but then the younger kids do step up... I'm looking forward to their season even though I think we may have landed in one of the toughest districts in the area this year... My inside source says the team is enthused and working hard, which I believe is a good indicator of how the players feel about their team...

You guys are going to get to watch a couple of games in the Cy-Schools' new sports complex. I think it's near completion but if you drive by it on Barker-Cypress you will notice that it is an extremely nice complex. I hope it gets used for regional play-off games and maybe a semi-final or State final.

he sat out a year of varsity ball as per UIL rules. his parents liked the academic situation at Jesuit better, so they moved him. there was no recruiting involved there.

just thought I'd note, the Rice baseball player was Colin Matheny, who is not listed on the roster for Rice this year, and missed all of the 2005 season with a an injury. the Baytown Lee player is Josh Jones.

Should be a solid season. Hopefully the team can step up in the absence of such a good group of seniors and do well in their new district.

Speaking of Rice Stadium, I still think if they upgraded the turf and replaced the wooden bleachers with aluminum they'd have one of the best venues around, well, except for parking...
