So it's been a while since I actually started a thread...it's about that time again. This one is pretty lame too. I just finished watching Slap Shot for like the 100th time and, at the very end, there is a marching band playing a song - I kept rewinding it on DVR because I couldn't figure it out - then it hit me - they were playing the Cypress Falls school song:) That was pretty cool. Then I thought of another topic to add here - humor me, it's Saturday night and I'm bored out of my mind. I thought we could post our favorite sports movies by sport. Here are mine:
Hockey: Slap Shot, of course
Football: Remember the Titans
Basketball: Hoosiers
Soccer: Haven't seen any
Boxing: The very first Rocky
Baseball: Field of Dreams (2nd choice Bad News Bears)
Bowling: The Big Lebowski
Golf: Caddyshack
Tennis: Who cares - don't know of any
Car Racing: Haven't seen any
Swimming:Back to School
Feel free to add any other sports - this was all I could think of!

I thought about Miracle too and, while it is a very good movie, it doesn't come close to the feeling we got when we watched it actually happen - that was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in all my many years of watching sports. Then when 1984 rolled around, I was hoping it would happen again but it didn't and hasn't since.
The only good thing that came out of the 1984 games was Pat LaFontaine, whom I met in New York when he was just starting out with the Islanders (he was quite the hottie too). I saw where the Sabres are retiring his number - where does the time go - he was just a kid yesterday it seems!

i think the USA needs to start using college players again, because a) they can practice together more b) all dont have egos
the nhl players fly there a day or 2 before their game, and they play right away, which doesnt allow them to pracitce at all, maybe one practice

Actually, some of the team members showed up at the last minute this time due to the storms in NYC. And they are arrogant and I think some see it as a waste of time. I agree - bring back the college players. In fact, bring back the amateurs completely...the Olympics were more fun that way. And to go another step - bring back the USSR - they really made it fun and annoying at the same time. I sit near a Russian woman at work and we were joking about that - the Big Red Machine...it was scary and awesome but we watched with much interest. The only thing I would never want kids to go through are those stupid bomb drills where we sat under our desks and put our hands over our heads - yeah, THAT's going to stop a nuclear bomb in its tracks!!

Dang AZ, I forgot about Ladybugs. You are right. And that is a GREAT pick on Forest Gump. That would be my favorite Ping Pong movie too.
