UIL: NO LIVE BROADCASTS ON FRIDAY NIGHTS (LEE-COLERAIN OR OTHERWISE)

UIL athletic director Charles Breithaupt called me today and we discussed in-depth the options of the Tyler Lee-Cincinnati Colerain game being televised live on ESPN-U on Friday night.

Breithaupt told me point blank..."I see no way the game between Lee and Colerain, or any high school football game in Texas or involving a high school within the UIL will be televised live, not this year, and not until the THSCA and others change their stance".

The exception to a live broadcast on Friday night would come during either of the two state championship weekends in December.

Breithaupt also told me the only games that can be televised live, based on UIL approval, are games on either Thursday night and/or on Saturday, and even then it would need approval from the THSCA and the UIL.

Breithaupt also confirmed he'd been in contact with Fahlgren Sports Marketing of Ohio through a Dallas-based marketing firm, and that he was about to return the calls from both John Fahlgren and Ken Halloy from Fahlgren.

Breithaupt told me he's been out of pocket at a national convention in San Antonio, and hasn't been available for comment until now, and then added "I decided to return your call first because I knew it had to be important for you to call, and I had an idea of what you were calling about...and now I'll start calling others who might be asking about the same issue, including the people at Fahlgren and another media outlet out of Tyler".

Tyler Lee will play Cincinnati Colerain on Friday, September 9th at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The game could end up being tape-delayed on ESPN-U. Regardless, you can listen to the game broadcast on AM600 KTBB, AM1490 ESPN, and on ktbb.com.
