Hats off to Shiloh, you have to tip your hat to anyone willing to come down and play Trinity in their own backyard. In talking to the coaches, they knew it was a distinct possibility that they could get their heads handed to them and that's how it played out.
The game was eerily similar to the Flower Mound playoff game, only worse. If memory serves Flower Mound had six turnovers and kept throwing the ball which made for short fields and easy scores.
#4 for Shiloh was an ironman! He played both ways and returned kicks, including the touchdown. As many people on here have pointed out, it would be great if the folks at the Herbstreit Classic could do a little better job of matching teams up that are competitive. I think Aquinas would have been a much tougher test for Trinity but it's too late now.
Here's some pics from the game.

Considering their coach has proclaimed himself repeatedly as "the greatest team ever from the state of arkansas", I just don't see him saying this unless you talked to him right after the game.
The egotism on this team is abound. That is easily seen in the way they play defense.

To be clear, it was one of the assistants but your point is well-taken. They did seem to be very confident coming in but that's to be expected. Privately, they were noticeably concerned. I will say that watching them in warm-ups, they looked the part on offense. The defense was a whole nother story (outside of Harvill).

I respect them for coming down here and taking on Trinity.
Not to beat a dead horse....but, they need to get a kicker. Handing Trinity the ball at the 40 each time was just suicide.
And, I watched the Aquinas game and those kids would have given Trinity all that they wanted and more. Very impressive team...especially on defense.

What happened to #53 for Shiloh? He was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher middle of the third quarter.

I never saw him go down, so my guess would be dehydration. Going both ways against a good team for 3 hours will take its toll. IIRC, #53 was one of their studs and he's probably accustomed to pushing around a 215 lb. guard from PoDunk High. It takes a little more energy to move a good sized Tongan.

It wasn't dehydration. I was sitting on the shiloh sidelines (easier to find a seat) and they were working on him for a while. He was laying down so I couldn't get a view at what the were working on from where I was sitting. When he would sit up you could tell he was in some pain. They very gingerly placed him on the stretcher.

That's a good question, I assumed he was pulled once the game was out of reach to prevent any injury. I did talk to him after the game and he seemed fine but I did notice a band-aid on his arm where one would take an IV.
He had some pretty big bruises but my guess would be dehydration. A lot of players throughout the day suffered cramps at different times. To his credit, Harvill had his head held high and was really a good interview.

That is good to hear. From where I was sitting it looked like the were working on a leg. Never would have guessed dehydration, so I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.

Considering he is the strongest high school student ever recorded, I doubt pushing around anyone had much effect on it.
Word is he was really sick the week going in.
Sam is one of the few guys on the team you will hear from again in the college ranks and probably the pros. He's not getting much press right now because he chose K-State early in his selection process (hopefully he changes his mind).
Shiloh is overrated, unprofessional, unworthy of the credit they get; but Sam is the real deal.
6'1 1/2
279 pounds
555 pound bench press
225 pounds x 41 times
560 pound squat
sub 5 40
he is also the 15, 16, 17 year old world record holder in bench press and is the "combined powerlifting" world record holder for a 17 year old as well.

My point being that you can only keep up a performance like that, going both ways, with no replacements, for so long. It has nothing to do with ability, strength, or toughness. The human body can only tolerate so much. It was like a tag-team match out there, but Harvill didn't have anyone to tag and the Trinity linemen did. He was probably taking 2.5 snaps to their 1. If that dehydrated him, I don't think anyone will think any less of him. I know I sure don't. The guy was a beast.....his only problem was that he was fighting 3 other beasts.

I stayed and watched the Skyline game and was pretty impressed with ST. Thomas, their defense was pretty fast and that defensive end #99 was a big boy but he seem to wear down quick, I would have like to see the Trojans line up against them, overall pretty good day, until me and the kid left only to fine someone had smashed my truck and took off!:Censor: I thought the intro to the Trinity and Shiloh game was pretty cool and had me thinking for a sec we were going to be in a dog fight! that feeling lasted about 4 minutes.

I agree...we need more close games.
They should also consider scheduling 4 local teams to play the early (9AM -10AM may be a better start time) game and the late game -- because the schedule gets out of hand as the games get to running late.

ANY coach that pooch kicks to the opponents 45 yard line is patently stupid(special situations aside).
Why pooch it to the 45 when you can onside kick it to the 50 and have a 25-30% chance of a recovery?
Yet they do it over and over. Unreal.
Of course these are the same type of coaches that punt on 4th and one at the opponents 35 yard line when they have averaged 7 yards a carry to that point.

Pooch kicking is acceptable if you have faith in your defense, - Not the case yesterday so I don't know the reason, maybe figured the run back would have been worse
The kid just didn't have the leg, I wonder if he was the usual kicker?

I was thinking the same thing. You don't lose any more yardage with the onside kick and at least have a chance for a recovery. After Trinity figured out to call a fair catch on the kickoff it was just a gift of field position. That may be the only thing that kept the total yards as "low" at it was.

The video "introduction" of Trinity before the game was very cool. WWF style. Lots of hard hits with helmets flying. I had to think the Shiloh players were wondering what their coaches got them in to.

I was most happy with the continued good form of QB Kautai. No, he's probably not a game breaker, but what poise he's shown in only his first 2 starts, it's like he's had 2 years allready under his belt. He's come a long ways since spring ball.
The offensive line, can't give them enough credit. They asked the guards or center to single block the 3 tech (Harvill and Goss) depending on who was uncovered or covered. The chemistry along the Trinity front is really something beautiful to watch. Not enough is said about the level of coaching they recieve from Coach Cansler. Now before I get to far ahead of myself, the personell on defense probably attributed to some of that percieved excellence, but still, the teamwork is terrific.
Runningbacks, was great to see Tevin run again. He certainly looks explosive again and with the added power he really is a different back to when he first lined up against Curtis 2 yrs ago. Tusan, his dip and go runningstyle/with his explosive first step really gives the Trojan running game a different look, and then ofcourse #4, #8, #30, did I miss anyone? It really was an embarrassment of riches.
WR's again Brandon was dynamic even if he didn't score, his pass in trafic on the reverse will make a nice addition to his long list of highlights. Rader and Dorsey both showed good hands but are keyblockers (especially Dorsey) for the Trojan ground game.
TE - see offensive line, but nice catch big guy. Don't get too used to it
DL - were given a hefty assignment this week due to the special attributes of the opposing QB. Get pressure, stay in your lanes and don't lose contain is probably what they were told. I thought they did well considering the circumstances. They did well considering Keihl didn't run for his usual ground stats. By the time the season is over, this may be one of the most complete units to ever have come thru Trinity.
LB - maybe the stars of this defense? Yenga, Nance and Richardson (will all probably be playing on saturdays. Throw in the heady play of Paipa and talented backups like Fonokalafi, Leota etc, it's a unit that's got speed, physicality and great instincts. The ability to close down open spaces was really on display yesterday.
DBs- inexperienced group that made some errors but made up for it in plays like the tight hi/low breakup of the beauty of a fade pass to the corner. They were told all week to stay with their coverages, even if the QB looked like he was in trouble, because Keihl can heave the ball 60 yds flat footed. I think they kids learned their lesson.
Trinity on defense we all know is schematically very conservative. Lots of zone and most blitzes, if any, are also out of the zone. The defense stayed fairly basic against Shiloh, no fancy stunts, slants or stemms that I could see. The depth along the Dline gives the Trojan coaches that flexibility, the flexibility to stay simple and still contain a pretty good offense.
Really was elated at the performance. Is it a championship team? That all depends on how they respond to adversity. This is Texas football and the depth of outstanding teams goes especially deep this year, adversity will definately be waiting for my Trojans

In all fairness, I'm sure other teams have considered it, but they probably lack the personnel to do it the way Trinity did it. They may not have 275 lb. linemen 3-deep and an entire stable of good backs. Sure, Lineweaver's an excellent coach, but much of his success comes from the depth of the talent he has to work with.

U saw us stemm last year against STP. It's that line shift when you saw us go from a 3-4 to a 4-3 or visa versa. Stunt is a trading of assignments between 2 DLs or even a DL or a LB, etc...lots of zone blitzes are run this way. Slant is exactly what it is, say the dl is lined up in a 3 tech head up on the guard, a slant would be penetration to the gap either between him and center or him and tackle. typically you'll see the whole line slant in the same direction for gap discipline and the LB's are usually in a read (reacting), usually.

Their pass defense was their downfall, but that little school plays real big boy football.

Exactly what I am saying. They were not doing anything offensively with the pass game so they started with the time consuming run scheme. It worked well and kept trinity's o off the field.

Couldnt have explained it better myself. Nice one DH

Lineweaver does it. Not all the time but he does it. That settles it.
This year we actually have a kicker that can kick for a change, so you might not see it as often.

I don't think anyone benefits from a mismatch like that; Trinity nor Shiloh. I think you just burn the tape and move on.
I got a few smiles from it
