Its funny how some people think rap is crap but rappers like 50 cent, nas, jay-z, M, cassidy, etc. . . make over 7 figures. If it is really crap then why does it sale so much. Wait maybe because there are alot of people on this board that have had to much hatarade. Now its time to sip on some truth syrup. If you ever jusy listen to rap lyrics rappers talk about there life what all they have been threw. Example 50 cent one of the most lyrical minds out there was shot 9 times and dies on his way to the ER before they revived him years down the road he has turned something negative into positive. If you havent seen the movie "get rich or die tryin" watch it. I promise you you cannot look at 50 cent the same. What rappers do is no difference then what other music artist do. I truly believe alot of people cant understand rap becuase they dont take time to listen to the lyrics and really understand it. There ia other rappers that if you listen to what they say you would be like damn (Trae,Z-RO,Paul Wal,Big Tuck,Young Geezy,Chamillionaire,Lil Flip). I dont like country but I wont say it is crap just becuase I dont listen to it. I think country and rock artist are very talented just not my style.

Rap is not my style. And their are certain rap songs that I enjoy. But, I do not like any rapper that talks negative about women, positively about drugs, violence, killing cops, killing each other, etc. It is teaching a negative way of life to the young people of America. I stand in the hallways between classes watching kids wearing their pants down around their knees, grills in their mouths, using the word Mother F***** like it was a good thing. Calling each other bitc***, *****'s, etc. Where do they get this from? I am not saying it is just rap, I am saying that rap glamorizes this way of life. Will Smith has been able to make a pretty good career out of being a clean rapper, no profanity, ain't killing nobody, etc. Why can't more? These kids look up to these people and want to be like these people, What chance do these kids have?

I went through the same thing in the 60's when the Beatles came out. Parents didn't like the music, at first. The older rockers didn't like foreigners dominating the rock charts. I just never told people they had to like them or accept them. I just went in my room, closed the door and played their records on the phonograph. Just PLEASE don't preach how virtuous rappers and their music is because they make a lot of $$ doing it. Making a lot of $$ doing something isn't what validates the worthiness or how good something is. If that is so, drug dealers make even more $$. Look at how much $$ those T.V. evangelist charlatans make. Just listen to your Rap, enjoy it and don't expect anyone else that doesn't like it to be convinced otherwise.
Let's just agree to disagree. At least everyone on this board likes High School football!! And let me convince you to be a Katy Tiger fan! :D

You seriously underestimate the number of stupid people in this country. Pauly Shore still makes 7 figures every time you see him. Try and defend that.

Most rap now days is absolute garbage. Nothing more than the same tired old lyrics re-hashed over and over again with a new beat and a new profane adjective to describe women. There is some great original work out there and that work is outstanding, but the nature of the rap business now days is to find something that works and keep doing it until the buying public is ready to shove flaming cacti in their ears. That is when the industry moves on to it's next flavor of the month.

The true giants of the industry like Jay Z (who by the way earns close to 9 figures), Eminem (though his most recent stuff is complete crap), Nelly, etc. have been able to last for as long as they have because they continue to evolve and create. The rap industry is full of more one hit and no hit wonders than any other genre in history mainly because the genre is bogged down with a lack of creativity. Let's face it, there are only so many times you can say "b*tch" and "ho" and only so many ways you can grab your crotch before people start wanting more.

The genre has fallen a long way since it peaked for me personally in the 90s. Controversy aside, the stuff that Dr. Dre, Snoop, B.I.G., Tupac, the Fugees, etc. did in that time was amazing and still continues to impress to this day. That was a time of creativity and excitement in the genre. The industry is so stagnant now that 10 minutes of exposure will make you sick.

FWIW, there is only one young "up-and-coming" artist that I have heard that is worth a damn and that is Chamillionaire. I'm really hoping he will be able to hit it big soon and elevate to the top so he can displace some of the garbage being produced by the Kanye Wests and Lil' Johns of the business. Chamillionaire is a breath of fresh air and a much needed boost of creativity. The only problem is that if he does hit big, the industry will find 100 different no-talent hacks that kinda sound like Chamillionaire and they will start copying his stuff until it is all crap. That is the state of the rap industry now days.

jtk- that was damn straight.

purplenation- you are so far off on the rap industry. 50 cent writes about 0% of his own lyrics now. His first cd was partially written by him, but now he has ghostwriters who do it, hence the change in style. Also his life in the movie was so far blown out of proportion. If you read police reports he wasn't even shot 9 times. Something like 6 or 7. Does the movie also show 50 snitching and ratting out all of his friends and crew just to save his ***? Hell no. But that's how it went down.

And please don't even act like the crap Paul Wall raps about is deep and meaningful. His lyrics are a joke, kinda like this crap you keep posting on here.

50 cent writes his own music that is lil bow wow who has Jermaine Dupree write his music. Its funny how I post something and its crap but then the crap that you post is worth reading. Look if you dont like it dont reply to it. I stated only facts. Talk down on Paul Wal all you want he still has 50G's in his mouth while you still are living off mommy and daddy. So do me a favor keep your smart *** southlake comments to yourself and next time ill keep me ghetto comments to myself.cause I dont care to hear what you have to say. As far as someone else not understanding grills what is the difference between some white kid buying a rolex then a black kid putting a grill in his mouth. Plus the femals tend to like my diamonds in my grill. SL Thug does it matter how many times he was actually shot he took one to the face and still is the most successfull rapper right now..

I have people on here getting on my case over rap music. If you dont like it dont say nothing. Im just passing time until football season starts. My little brother is close to signing a record deal with universal I just though I would like to see who on this board thought who the best rapper alive was not the only good rapper is a dead rapper.

Im not upset it is just stupid when I post a thread about who the best rapper alive is and idiots come on here and say the best rapper is a dead rapper.(And who promotes violence). Never did I say Paul Wal has meaningful music. I would never buy a Paul Wal CD but I like his style and would want them to play his music in the club. What is a fact about saying 50 cent was shot 7 times when every single Bio has him shot 9 times. SL Thug also said 50 doesnt write his on music. If he can find some where on the internet 50 cent saying I have someone write my music for me then ill believe him. The only reason his style has changed is because 50 knows were the money is at like he said on BET. If you want to get down to the facts. How can Southlake Thug really be a thug. Thugs dont stay in the suburds with fenced in housing complexes and go to a school like SLC. IF you want to get down to it not only was 50 shot 9 times but he was also stabed. SL Thug can call my post crap but atleast my crap is more true then his.

50 Cent is just like Kanye West. Both popped onto the scene and were a breath of fresh air. They brought something new and it looked like they could single-handedly change the rap game and put it back on track. However, just like Kanye (who went off the deep end quicker than Tom Cruise on Oprah) 50 Cent has gone down the same old tired road of mediocrity that is cluttered will all of the other crap-rappers in the genre. Both guys are extreme talents whose talents are going to waste in the awful garbage they are producing. I'm still trying to figure out what's worse, "Candy Shop" or anything by Nickleback. What I do know is that having to listen to that wretched song one more time is going to make me vomit. Utter crap.

From what I have heard (and I try to avoid it) rap is very destructive and abrassive. I might be able to handle the "music" if it were not for the lyrics.
I know it's not all that way but it is disturbing that we tolerate the absolute immorality that's being shoved down young peoples throats. If you admire and idolize a rap star I think you might want to set your sights a little higher.

Teacher BUILD kids...then society tears them down by letting them skip college to go strait to the pros...etc...etc. I'm not going to bash ALL rappers and entertainers because there are some good ones, but you can get out of prison and write a rap and make millions without an education....Slap in the face to all teachers.

I see crap-rap has spread to the other side of the pond. Or maybe it was the other way around. I for one wouldn't mind blaming Fat Joe and Ja Rule on Europe.

BTW, Chamillionaire is definitley worth a listen if you even remotely like rap. He's from your neck of the woods (Houston) and seems to have a very original sound... at least compared to the garbage you normally hear.

I used to listen to the old Chamillionaire stuff, before I got kind of sick of rap and have found comfort in Classic Rock, Jimmy Buffett, Texas Country, and 80s goodness. All the new Chamillionaire makes me sick, I can't stand that "Turn it up," 'song' of his. All his old mixtapes were money, as was a lot of the stuff he did with the old old Swishahouse.

I'm the same way with Chamillionaire...All of his old stuff was better...not the mainstream stuff that the industry wanted to but out....He was the mixtape king for a reason. Like I said...go pick up "Get your mind Correct" if you want to hear Cham at his best.

It doesn't matter what color you are, if you rap you are stupid. Look at Vanilla Ice and M&M. Not only that, earning a seven figure salary doese not justify calling your neighbor's wife a #@$&% just because you feel like it.

Biting the head off a bat. That's even worse than rap. Not only is that stupid to do, it is cruel for the bat and a health hazard for the person. As far as I am concerned Ozzy should still be banned from the state of Texas. I never watched his show because of that reason.

I like most all types of music besides country and have been a big fan of rap/hip hop in the past but like jtk and several others said, It is getting harder and harder to like it because it is the same old same old. pants down to your ankles with ugly looking grills saying a cuss word every other word and talking about all the money they make. I prefer white teeth myself but i understand it is a image. The cussing in the music used to not bother me, but you change some when you have kids of your own and you do not want them to hear that. When i am going to a game or to the mall etc etc and see some of these kids trying to represent this new era of hip hop, then it is hard to stomach. I will be with my wife and little boys, and they will walk by saying 4 letter words like it is no big thing all with their underwear hanging out and calling women *****es. Now i understand that cussing is part of being young. We talked plenty foul on my hs basketball team and all of my hs and college baseball teams and friends BUT! You talked like that with each other and you had respect for those around you. You had respect for your parents, the elderly, little kids, and families. If they were around you would show respect. You see so many young kids talking and acting like this now with no respect for anybody around them. i am talking 9 and 10. They are just copying their idols and it is kind of sad.

Banned from the state for urinating on the Alamo. Biting the head off a bat is just fuel to the fire. State troopers should be at the border with flash lights saying " No Osborne in this vehicle, let him in."

The guy is harmless these days. He can hardly talk. He was wacked out of his mind on drugs and alcohol that night like usual. I am not a big Ozzy fan but to ban him from Texas for that is crazy. If he is harmless these days then we should just forget what he did in the past, right? I have heard that argument before. Why don't we just let all death row inmates out of jail if they seem harmless? Payment for what you do in the past does not go away just because you change in the present.

We were held responsible for our actions and actually had consequenses and reprecussions to deal with...Now...kid gets out of line...teacher cant do anything...kids can call CPS on parents...so they are untouchable. We have to find a scapegoat....."hey buddy what's that you're listening to?..Fitty cent?, Ok, it's his fault"

yeah thats a whole other topic though talking about the parents. and yes although i am only 18 i can see that things are way easier for kids now a days. i have parents that have raised me very well but the reason they let me listen to rap was because it was the "normal" and the last thing you want is your kid to be an outcast. and ask yourself, what is the main groups that rappers try to get there music out to? the kids hat dont have a good childhood to begin with. not so much now but when rap started it was directed to the young black person that grew up in the wrong neighborhood

You ARE a cool kid...lol...in reference to what you said, here is what i wrote in another thread on that topic and My opinion:

I try to look at things from all angles, some may say I think too much or "outside the box". But a lot of people say society is a result of the music, kids are trying to be like these rappers...etc. etc. It can actually be the OTHER way around. The culture, for good or bad has been around waaayyy before rap music. Rap music started as guys talking about their everyday lives, making it rhyme. They talked about what they saw everyday and what they related to. As the times changed, the music changed to keep up. We started ranking on each other(dozens) and rapped about what we did as teens(house partys, etc) everyone put what they did on a daily basis in the form of a rhyme.

The West Coast, ala N.W.A. did they same thing...even though it wasnt positive...it was real...they talked about what they did. If they knew it or not, they were sending out a cry for help. "Hey world, look what goes on around US"...the drugs, the gangs...and all this stuff that the rest of the world dosent know about. Drugs and gangs didnt start with NWA....NWA brought it to the front. Instead of dealing with the problem...we shoot the messenger. BAN RAP. Same thing in Miami when prostitution in strip clups ran the city....instead of taking care of the problem...ban Luke and the 2 live crew.

The rappers with the longevity are they rappers that change with society. That's why gimmick rappers like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer are things of the past. These days you cant talk about the things you did and go through because today's consumer has changed. You have to keep up with them. and today they want to hear useless gibberish over and over again...that's why you have all these "Wack" rappers on top of the charts and they great ones arent really selling.

I don't get these people that think if you teach your kids right from wrong, and that includes learning that every action, bad or good has consequences, will break their "spirit" and "creativity". That is a crock. My daughters, although far from perfect, have lots of spirt, personality, and creativity. Exactly...kids today say things to their parents that If I say to mine, even at 31 I will get slapped. Not YOU Miss Kitty, but most single moms I know...tend to let their kids do anything. They are afraid their kids "Wont like them" and that since it's only one parent that have to make up for the other one and be EXTRA nice. I, for one can not argue with a child. If I say do something you do it...dont ask why, and try to reason....growing up that was the law. You respected your parents. I also hate repeating myself. and when I'm out at the mall I see kids and parents just going at it...it makes me mad. Not saying that I or my kids are perfect...but its funny that this is going on and when the kids become older we wonder why they do some of the things they do.

LOL...A little trivia...Bling-Bling was started by BG of CashMoney records a few years back. He had a song called bling, bling...which was the "Blink" that was created when light hit his jewlery, cars, teeth and rims. They were so shiny that they went "Bling".....and the media picked it up and ran with it...Stuart Scott was the first.

Here are the lyrics...you can call it the BIRTH of the Bling:
