View Full Version : New SLC Logo?

How long has SLC had the "State of Texas with the 1980's looking fire-breathing dragon coming out of it" logo for helmet decals, etc? Was this the winning design from a design competition or has it been this logo since the school opened? Is there a new design in mind or will they keep this one forever since it's part of the tradition?

I was at a "History of the Carroll Dragons" function and the story was told about the logo & as I remember it, the logo has been around since the late
60's and I've never heard anyone say anything about changing it. Why would they? You see them on rear windows all over the state & country...I was in Colorado a couple of months ago and a fellow Dragon honked & waved...

You know, I was on the off topic thread expressing an opinion on rap, and was told to stay out of it if I did'nt like it...I say you get to express your opinion on a discussion board regardless..take yours for instance, who cares if you don't care, but you got a right a to say it..

the logo had originally been adapted from a navy fighter squadron logo.

I like the logo....and I see it down here in Austin some also.
I have the Lion helmet sticker on the back of my truck....not like anyone is going to know where it's from. Too many teams are the Lions. I'm sure Pflugerville fans know who it is. haha I see alot of those P's everywhere here.....
I hope I can get it off when I sell it. ....the sucker is TOUGH

Ours are pretty tough too, more than a couple of people have tried to peel it off at games..those Dragon claws grip pretty good...:D

We're cool, I've had some issues with my oldest son and the wall shaking effect of his rap comin out of his truck...:eek:

Change the logo and you change tradition. I dont like it, but keep it.

Don't change the logo!! Looks great. Doesn't look dated. Easy to recognize on the road. Don't mess with success!! You can always change the striping if you need a little change on the helmet, and of course jersey and pant styles are always changing with the fashion set by the NFL and college ranks.

We have a special relationship with the Katy folks...also the purple people from Lufkin..we take shots from Smithson Valley, but we can handle it..they'll come around

I was just stating the the Katy Tiger Head is very unique and you see them everywhere and they are easily identified.
I respect SLCs program.

The current Dragon logo as seen on the Carroll helmet is not the original. The original hemet design from the mid-60s was a "C" similar to the Cincinnatti "C" of the baseball team. This was followed by the use of a Pittsburgh Steeler type of logo for a brief period. I emphasize brief, since no one had a clue as to what that logo had to do with Carroll or Dragons. This logo was replaced by the current green dragon outlined by Texas. The Dragon itself was adopted from a Navy airborne electronic warfare squadron amd placed over the Texas outline. This logo has been in use for about 30 years, give or take. There is certainly no move underfoot to change it, although some damn crazy members of a previous school board discussed doing so briefly several years ago. Those folks are no longer on the board.
The logo is very widely recognized, not only in Texas, but nationwide, I suspect from a combination of the mobility of the Southlake community and frm Carroll's exposure on national TV. Hence, it is somewhat valuable. Changng would have been quite a stupid thing to do.

As I have mentioned on this board before. That is the BEST logo in the State of Texas. I love it. I hope they don't change it. The only way they could improve on that is if they started calling them "THE PACK" and printed that on the helmets.....LOL

I was thinking he may have started going there but was forced to move to Katy. But there are other schools in Katy. That is why I ask him/her if they ever went to KHS.

those things are kind of hard to come off, i had to take the ones off my parents cars, and it kind of was hard, but whats cool is you can restick it to something else
