Well someone is going to be 2-0 and someone is going to be 1-1. So if our Dawgs play well we should be able to win. The fans travel well with Waco when they come to Cove. I always have to hear the Waco crowd say WACOOOOOO, WACOOOOO, lol. Can't wait to see the game. Should be a good one.

Off topic. But I figured cove or Waco fans might know this from experience. Does Waco University have a internet broadcast? Trying to hear the Waco U v. Forney game tonight.

Waco never gets "killed" by Cove even in our worst seasons.
If Cove can pass and have success at it... it won't be close. But, if they struggle passing.... it's Waco's game.
Stupid penalties really hurt Waco.... same as Austin High. Both teams looked pretty good and it was a battle. If Austin didnt' have that four star WR we would have rolled on them.

Agreed. First game that comes to mind is the 2005 season. On paper, it wasnt supposed to be close. Ended up going to 3 OTs.
The outcome of the game might all be decided by if our QB plays or not. This may become an defensive game! Cant wait!

That's a fact! This is one of my favorite games of the season! No matter how good or bad these 2 teams are....they ALWAYS play each other like the State Championship was on the line!! This will once again be a classic Waco/Cove game!!! Looking forward to another Friday evening in the Dawg's House! http://forums.5atexasfootball.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

I wasnt really a big fan of changing our offense from the I to spread option no huddle but you can see just how effective it is and the great potential with our athletes. They just need to forget about last year as it was a learning curve. I don't know if the Austin high defense was just bad or the waco offense was just that good. I've never seen us throw down field and score that many times so it was good to see and weird at the same time. LOL
Could be a plus for is as cove faces the unknown..... but then again the cove defense may be good enough stop us.
The waco no huddle is so fast..... if we can limit penalties we will be a force.

I am glad to see this exciting match-up continue. These two schools always have some interesting games. Regardless of the classifications or records the Dawgs and the Lions step it up against each other. If Waco's new offensive sets up fast, the Cove Defense will have to adjust to a faster pace, since SLC was very predictable in their slow set up. Cove's OL may be the deciding factor in this game, BIG, STRONG and able to make holes for some very quick backs. It will be good to see the D-backs tested with a long ball since it did not happen last game. I look for the Dawgs to win this game, but it will be exciting. Go Dawgs! :heli:

First QB start for junior Deonte Phillips for Waco High. I just heard his stats from last week....
9 for 18 234 passing
2 TD passes 18 and 22 yards
17 rushes 93 yards
no turnovers
Kinda weird to see 234 yards passing by a Waco QB. LOL
Those are remarkable stats for a first time start for the QB tho. We were all pretty shocked to see what they were doing on offense. LOL The spread option is a perfect fit for us I think. I like that Coach Ramsey coaches the offensive line.

This is a good rivalry game. i know the Cove fans look forward to it every year. I believe Cove is capable of winning this one. The dawgs need to stay focused and not let the win over SLC go to their heads. It sounds like Waco is looking better this year than last year. This should turn out to be a great game. Hopefully Waco brings a good crowd. My prediction- Cove wins in the second half 31-21.

I won't make a score prediction, but I say that I believe Waco will get burnt with their "blitz" packages. I noticed that they like to blitz on defense. Anyway that may or may not be the case this week knowing that we are a running team. Although our QB has a great completion percentage going. He is 100% pass completions and everyONE for a a touchdown! Should be a good game. It's getting tougher each year for opponents to win in the DAWGHOUSE! Go Dawgs!

If you ask me, I say Green doesn't play until 3rd non-district game and just briefly. Or not until 1st district game. Or maybe he becomes back-up? So I guess you shouldn't ask me if you want a straight answer. There are a few scenarios that could pan out for the benefit of the team, one of which might hurt them. It's going to be interesting what transpires at the QB position. Go Dawgs!

#1 was a WR last year and in the game last week he was 1/1 passing for like 47 yards and a touchdown on a screen pass.
Waco people, does Waco ISD put up video of games? Some Waco U people were saying the Forney v. Waco U game would be on the internet somewhere sometime this week.

Most of our line returns from last year-I'm not sure how many exactly. The JV did pretty well. One loss because we had to move so many JV starters to varsity due to injuries last year. Cove is built around speed and stamina, which is how we outlasted SLC in the second half. I really don't know what to expect against Waco. Does Waco have stamina?

That is Waco's forte now.... they run no huddle....and that is what Coach Ramsey stresses is to snap the ball as fast as they can. They might not have as much stamina early in the season...but, I bet they will towards the end.
If Waco does well on offense I look for both teams to be winded by 4th quarter. LOL
I have a feeling it is going to turn into a defensive battle...especially if Cove does not have success passing the ball. I just can't see Waco giving up rushing yards unless Cove does well with the pass.
Waco's offense is still so new that I can see Cove keeping us in check too.
But, you never know it may be a Cove romp.... at least that is what everyone thinks.
Everything is just so unknown at this point in the season.... for both teams.
Not used to that as we used to play each other the last game of district and people knew what to expect.

I think the RB #20 for Cove is their best individually since Donald Buckram. I had really really high hopes for the running backs last year and it never seemed like they had that one big time player.

Waco High (1-0) at Copperas Cove (1-0) Last week: Waco High defeated Austin High, 34-32; Copperas Cove defeated Southlake Carroll, 35-14 Breakdown: Waco High coach Danny Ramsey is prepping for the fastest backfield the Lions will see all year. Indeed, the Copperas Cove running game is no joke —the Bulldawgs racked up 380 rushing yards in a romp over Southlake Carroll. Quarterback Orlando Thomas rushed for 136 yards and backfield mate William Randolph had 129. There are more weapons still. Cove attempted a single pass all game, a 47-yard screen for the Dawgs’ first score, but Ramsey said they can change offensive philosophies in a snap just because of the talent of their personnel. “We have to worry about the run game,” Ramsey said. “It’s not like they can’t throw, they just didn’t need to in that particular instance.” Waco High’s run defense gave up just 109 yards on the ground against an Austin High team that didn’t care much about running. The reverse is the case against Cove. Equally important is the Lions’ budding spread option system under first-year starter Deonte’ Phillips, who thrived in his debut last week.

Watch out for #20 Randolph, he is a 2-way (3-way????) player and very good at both. He'll score and then kill your return guy on the ensuing kickoff. #37 (Brown?) plays LB but also some FB? and has it going too. Well-conditioned and good speed, the 2-way guys got stronger in the 4th as we got weaker.
Believe me, they are pretty good if I remember their numbers a week later.
Don't count on winning this one Waco, CC goes 2-0.

486 yards for Cove. 441 yards for Waco.
Game is when Cove stopped Waco on the Cove 1 and also the other time when Waco had it inside the 5.
Both defenses need some work.... Waco needs to shore up the penalties on offense.

Waco has the potential to be pretty good. They mix it up with the offense to keep the defense unbalanced.

Well "Super", you were right. Waco hung in there with the Dawgs as far as stamina and speed are concerned. They looked good. The Lions just wouldn't go away! Dawgs gave up some big plays though. They can't do that and expect to go deep in playoffs. Need to get that passing game going by district play also. Waco has some pretty big boys that played hard all game. We have to remember that Cove is a 1 high school town as compared to Waco's numerous schools. That gives us the upper hand in talent, at least in Waco's case. I hope the Lions do well this year and will be rooting for them. Although we were predicted to finish 3d in district....I say no way! District championship for Cove! Go Dawgs!
