Congrats to the Eagles in their win over Leander 56-35 despite mistakes and turnovers that are often displayed in the first game of the season. Eagles displayed that they can score and from anywhere on the field. Polite despite his three interceptions showed his arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. Cuddos to the special teams for a fg block and ko return by Jimmerson. Defense will be a surprise to many and will definitely get better as the season progresses. This team will improve in all aspects of its game as the season progresses. One game at a time.

W-1 L-0. Next Up: Arlington Bowie Volunteers @ Cowboy Stadiium on Labor Day. Tickets are going fast. Parking $10.

Congrats to the Eagles on their victory at Cowboys Stadium against the Bowie Volunteers and putting up 49 points what a showing. The Eagles appear to have started getting some continuinty on offense. Cudos to all the players, coaching staff, and supporters.

Also congrats to both Freshmen teams for their victories against Bowie as well as the JV team.

Next up for the Varsity is Saturday against Miramar Fla at the Eagles Nest in the Fla v Texas showcase, while the Frosh & JV play Cedar Hill.:heli:

Kudos to the Eagles with their thrilling overtime victory(42-41) over Miramar Fla as they chose to go for the win rather than to extend the overtime, to cap the finale of the Fla-Tx Classic. The Eagles were the only Tx team to record a victory. The team continues to get better each week. This week the Eagles will face another tough opponent in Round Rock Stony Point which could be an area playoff opponent in the later rounds.

The JV teams were unsuccesful against Cedar Hill and the Freshmen A were victors and the Freshmen B tied.

We need the same type of crowd this week to support the Eagles as we had against Miramar. Go Eagles!!!

Tough loss to a great team... look forward to a rematch down the road. I'm sure the Eagles learned a lot tonight, and I'm glad they faced a team this tough early on, rather than breezing through the season and not facing any real competition until the playoffs. I think a lot was gained from tonight's game.

Congrats to the Eagles on their first district win over the North Mesquite Stallions. This game was a lot closer than the 30-20 score would indicate. The Stallions were determined to use Bergeron (36-229 3 td) and the clock to wear down the Eagle defense and keep the ball away from the Eagles' potent offense. After making half time adjustments, the Eagle defense were able to contain Bergeron while Polite (333 yd 4 td) and receivers (White 111 yds 2 td & Ajala 117 yds), Vincent & Thompson took over for the victory in the absence of Porter out with turf toe. Good opening win for the Eagles.:)

That "overrated" Eagles team just keeps chugging along with a W over Lee. Next up is Horn.

Eagle2
10-18-2010, 12:59 PM
Way to go Eagles' Varsity on their victory over the Lee Red Raiders 42-28 as well as to the JV and Frosh teams as well.

Victories will not come easy for the Eagles as the 0-6 Red Raiders made it close with a 14-14 first half tie. As has been done all season the Eagles manage to make adjustments and find a way to make a needed stop to get the offense going and pull out a victory.

It does not get any easier for the Eagles this week, as they go into Jaguar territory to face a Mesquite Horn team that is good and talented with athletes that lost to Longview last week 8-13. Horn will be ready to upset and slow down the Eagles. The Eagles will also be expecting and ready for the Jaguars.:)

However "overrated" it remains a "W" in the win column. At this point of the season how many teams would like to have a "W"? I'll take it.

No doubt. Just repeating what I have been told by everyone. DeSoto is overrated, yet they're still winning. I'll take "overrated" with a W all day.

Fify. :D

I think EagleMom posted some details about a charter bus being available in the game thread. I know that a good number of DeSoto people supported Cedar Hill after they eliminated us during their run, but I don't expect our neighbors to return the favor with the games generally being so far away. If the games were in DFW we'd be looking at much better turnout (I know, duh) from DeSoto fans and surrounding fans. I have only been in the Metroplex ONE week the entire football season (last week, which I spent at Cowboys stadium for the Abilene/SLC and Cooper/Guyer games) due to being in school but I will be back in time for championship weekend. Lets hope that I will be able to catch my first DeSoto game of the year at Cowboys stadium!

And the long offseason begins...

Being away from DeSoto most of the year, I'm not familiar with the JV or second team, so I'll resist saying that we won't have a team as talented as this one for awhile. I said that after we lost to Cedar Hill in the regional finals and Cyrus graduated, then a couple years later here we are in the finals again. So I hope that we can reload and finally break through with the next class.

Booster club members, parents and supporters of the Desoto High School football program,
Thank you for your continued support of our young athletes! This past year with your assistance, we accomplished a lot including a record number of football scholarships awarded, a record number of football academic all Americans, three televised games, participation in the Under Armor nationally televised game and many other honors for our football program. This coming year promises to be even more successful as we participate in a district that has been realigned. As usual, we will need your unwavering support as the Desoto Eagles soar into even greater heights for the 2012-13 season!
I also wanted convey how happy I am to be back at Desoto High School. As you know in January, I was challenged with some tough decisions that I had to make quickly relating to my future and for the benefit of my family. I left Desoto in haste and deeply apologize for any hurt feelings or undue stress on the players, parents and supporters. I’m back now and more committed and determined than ever to ensure that Desoto High School’s football program is the finest in the country. Desoto athletes are groomed for greatness as evidenced by the numbers who go on to accomplish great things beyond their high school careers. I appreciate your kind words, positive energy and commitment to that end. I am expecting His “Unprecedented Favor” for the coming year!
Sincerely,

Claude Mathis, Head Coach
Desoto High School Football

DeSoto’s Claude Mathis a finalist for National Coach of the Year

DeSoto football coach Claude Mathis is among the six finalists for the 2013 Xenith National Coach of the Year Award, as selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee.
The Coach of the Year will be announced during the U.S. Army All-American Awards Dinner on Jan. 4 in San Antonio.
Mathis has led DeSoto to a 13-0 record and national No. 1 rankings from Rivals.com and MaxPreps’ Freeman computer rankings, thanks to impressive playoff wins over Coppell and Arlington Bowie. DeSoto faces Southlake Carroll (12-1) at 2 Saturday at SMU’s Ford Stadium in the Class 5A Division I Region I final.
More background from my colleague, Corbett Smith:
In five seasons at DeSoto, Mathis is 47-16, with his teams advancing to at least the second round of the playoffs each season. Mathis left DeSoto in January to join Tony Levine’s new staff at the University of Houston as running backs coach, but reversed course and withdrew his resignation.

The six National Coach of the Year Award Finalists:
Claude Mathis, DeSoto High School
J.T. Curtis, Curtis High School (River Ridge, La.)
Butch Goncharoff, Bellevue High School (Bellevue, Wash.)
Brian Hales, Butler High School (Matthews, NC)
Mike Jinks, Steele High School (Cibolo, Texas)
Joe Kinnan, Manatee High Schol (Bradenton, Fla.)

I look forward to the game this Saturday! I just hope the eventual winner comes out of this game healthy. Deep down I think the winner should be the odds on favorite to win State. I have seen Desoto's team and they look great. I know what our boys are capable of and hope they are at their best this week. I will tip my cap to Desoto if they win. I also hope that Wilson is a 100%, I heard he got knicked up last week. Oregon will be getting a great player. If White was bigger, no doubt in my mind he would be getting looks from the big boys. Anyways see yall Saturday.

Depending on how some of the teams in DeSotos's district improve or not they should roll through that district. Their non district is gong to be their toughest challenge.

Well based on what I saw in week zero 2013 I think Desoto once again proved that they truly belong in the discussion or discussions around D/FW when it comes to being a true 5A powerhouse. With all of the mixed messages coming out of the Allen and Martin scrimmage, Desoto and Allen proved that they are that good once again and really have good depth across the board.
I'm willing to say that Claude Mathis has once again put together another outstanding football team, now I know that its only been one game and there is a lot of football left to be played still.
However from where I was standing this Desoto Eagle team DOES have the ability to SOAR higher than ever before.
Have a good one.

Desoto is the real deal again this year. Desmond White was clearly the Offensive Player of the week as named by the DMN. He showed off his athletic talents in admirable fashion.

However, the quote he made after the game was rather rash. “We’re the number one team in the state – no doubt." Gee, I wonder if that quote will find its way on to some opponents locker room wall?

(or alternately headlined, “How I justified jumping the unbeaten, defending 5A champs … and how Allen will probably move back up to No. 1 next week”)
Allen has been outstanding all season. There’s little doubt that it is one of the elite programs – if not THE – in the state at the moment. If I were going to pick a state champion in Class 5A Division I, I’d probably pick them at this point in the season.--------Corbett Smith......same article

I can understand the logic he is using to justify his vote. If Desoto defeats Cedar Hill and Allen defeats Coppell the Eagles will be back on top until things get settled on the field. It comes down to him being more impressed with Desoto win over Trinity than Allen over SLC. It's not really a big deal other than for bragging rights.

I agree with you on what cete whoever said.
However after watching Desoto rip 2 state ranked if not nationally ranked teams in impressive fashion scoring a combined total 100 points plus. The eagle defense looks really solid and I believe that they're better than last years eagle defense. That secondary is lethal.
The most impressive thing is that the offense has only 2 returning starters on it and the Eagles are better this season pretty AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Westerberg is a very good coach and does an awesome job of putting that great amount of talent to work in the right places.
Two state titles very impressive.
Claude Mathis all I can say is WOW!!!!! what a tremendous, awesome, great ok heck there are no words that can truly state on just how great a job he's done at Desoto.
Mathis and his darn good staff put players in positions to be great and excell at the game of football no matter the position the players play and his players in my mind are ready for the next level truly a fine testament to coach Mathis.
I know that some will say look at the number of state championships which is true, however in my opinion its only a matter of time till Claude Mathis and the Desoto Eagles will have STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS!!! If not more than one.

I really hope that young man gets an opportunity at QB before they look at moving him to the slot. The more I see of him the more I'm impressed. I don't think his height would be all that much of a hindrance at the next level either, especially with these spread offenses.

Our QB my first 2 years in college wasn't all that much taller than Des, but to this day I say he was one of the better QB's I've seen at the collegiate level. And we ran a true to life dedicated option. I'm talking line up in the I, fake it to the fullback, and get at it.

exactly. I don't think his height is an issue for places like Texas State or UNT or UT-SA, I think it is a big factor for others. If he had 3-4 more inches, then that is different. Missouri took a chance with a shorter QB (Chase Daniels) and that turned out well for them. But he was/is 5'11" or 6'

Ok different worlds here my friend. You can have a midget run the option, you are reading the guy in front of you not looking down field over very tall d linemen to find a receiver.
An option QB is a running back who is an above average passer.

I know, I was just speaking more in terms of taking punishment. Really off-topic, so that's my bad.

But our QB did alright throwing the ball too. I just think with most of these schools operating out of the shotgun it wouldn't be as much of a problem as it might've been back when I was playing, when the majority of schools still had their QB's lining up under the center.

True. The shotgun or pistol helps. It would be interesting to see some very good RB's with a little size running the option.

Congratulations to both JV & Freshman Teams on their victories over Duncanville and securing district championships. Its disappointing to see how the Duncanville fb program has fallen down in participation. With a school enrollment of 4k+ and 3 feeder schools, the freshman teams each had 25 players on the team compared to 50 each for DeSoto and also similar participation numbers on the JV and it also reflects on the playing field. Definitely can see these being the last days for Dicus and the football program at Duncanville. Here's to the varsity team tonite will make it a clean sweep with a victory.

This policy does not apply to bands, cheer and drill teams but it will apply to all spectators coming in via the public entrances.
Attached is the sheet with more information and specific sizes that are allowed. Please make sure that you distribute as necessary so all parents/ families are aware of this!

This also means that noisemakers are only allowed if they fit the sizes mentioned in the sheet attached and they are able to be inspected by security personnel!

As I said on a earlier post to this thread its bad in when officials make horrible calls and miss calls, and quite frankly screw a game up.
Screw really isn't the word I would describe the refs of the Allen/ Desoto game this past Saturday but ill keep it clean.

After being told to look at max preps and seeing a pic from the game its pretty clear just how AWFUL the refs were. The Desoto defender was held so badly if it wasn't in a football game someone would be charged with assault its that obvious.

Then some of the stats got pointed out to me 9 holding calls against Desoto and only 1 against Allen that's too much of a gap to be considered a evenly called game.
Even as bad as that was the call that was a gamechanger was the chop block call against Desoto when Desoto was moving the ball very well it was a imaginary call because it didn't happen.

Now I'm not going to blame Allen for the calls but it sure looked rather "suspect" to me all day on Saturday and it looks even more "suspect" to me day as I'm writing this.

Basically Desoto yall got ripped off.

Have a good one.

Now I'm confused, A Colleyville Heritage poster said "you missed the point", wouldn't you want to know what point was that they were thinking of?

Hadn't seen any discussion on this yet DeSoto to play Cibolo Steele at Baylor’s new McLane Stadium (Hadn't seen any discussion on this yet DeSoto to play Cibolo Steele at Baylor’s new McLane Stadium.).

Driving back & forth to Austin that new stadium looks pretty cool and this should be a good game to go watch there.

Went to the first practice as well and a few since to Desoto has the talent once again to make a deep run.
All they need is for the chemistry to come around and Desoto will be just fine.

Have a good one.

Scrimmage Tonite 7:30pm at Eagle Stadium.
Lots of fun activities planned and many college scouts and coaches will be in attendance. Defense wins championships. Defense stood out in scrimmage, making play after play against the high powered offense. Offense again will have speed and playmakers and will score. Offense will have depth and players for the next four years. But it is the defense in 2014 that has changed the attitude in the Eagle camp. Defense will be a force that opponents will have to seriously contend with. Many college scouts and coaches in attendance. Louisville, Texas, KState, SMU,UTSA, Colorado, BYU and and others. Good first scrimmage.

Went to this one. If the QB doesnt learn to hold on to the ball, the Def will def. have to win it for Desoto.

Most definitely lots of new talent, new defense, new kicker and some emerging athletes that will covet plenty of exposure.

I watched a live scrimmage of the first team defense and first team offense. They are loaded and will be pushing for that State Championship game with Allen again. That defense is just nasty.

They reloaded and was very physical and agree they will be ready. State Championship game with Allen again, I like that.

That I correct that was the most physical spring I've ever seen.
A true testament to the off season conditioning program at Desoto.

Have a good one.
