Congrats to the Eagles in their win over Leander 56-35 despite mistakes and turnovers that are often displayed in the first game of the season. Eagles displayed that they can score and from anywhere on the field. Polite despite his three interceptions showed his arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. Cuddos to the special teams for a fg block and ko return by Jimmerson. Defense will be a surprise to many and will definitely get better as the season progresses. This team will improve in all aspects of its game as the season progresses. One game at a time.

W-1 L-0. Next Up: Arlington Bowie Volunteers @ Cowboy Stadiium on Labor Day. Tickets are going fast. Parking $10.

Congrats to the Eagles on their victory at Cowboys Stadium against the Bowie Volunteers and putting up 49 points what a showing. The Eagles appear to have started getting some continuinty on offense. Cudos to all the players, coaching staff, and supporters.

Also congrats to both Freshmen teams for their victories against Bowie as well as the JV team.

Next up for the Varsity is Saturday against Miramar Fla at the Eagles Nest in the Fla v Texas showcase, while the Frosh & JV play Cedar Hill.:heli:

DeSoto showed good pose last night, all around talent on offense and defense.

Kudos to the Eagles with their thrilling overtime victory(42-41) over Miramar Fla as they chose to go for the win rather than to extend the overtime, to cap the finale of the Fla-Tx Classic. The Eagles were the only Tx team to record a victory. The team continues to get better each week. This week the Eagles will face another tough opponent in Round Rock Stony Point which could be an area playoff opponent in the later rounds.

The JV teams were unsuccesful against Cedar Hill and the Freshmen A were victors and the Freshmen B tied.

We need the same type of crowd this week to support the Eagles as we had against Miramar. Go Eagles!!!

Tough loss to a great team... look forward to a rematch down the road. I'm sure the Eagles learned a lot tonight, and I'm glad they faced a team this tough early on, rather than breezing through the season and not facing any real competition until the playoffs. I think a lot was gained from tonight's game.

Congrats to the Eagles on their first district win over the North Mesquite Stallions. This game was a lot closer than the 30-20 score would indicate. The Stallions were determined to use Bergeron (36-229 3 td) and the clock to wear down the Eagle defense and keep the ball away from the Eagles' potent offense. After making half time adjustments, the Eagle defense were able to contain Bergeron while Polite (333 yd 4 td) and receivers (White 111 yds 2 td & Ajala 117 yds), Vincent & Thompson took over for the victory in the absence of Porter out with turf toe. Good opening win for the Eagles.:)

That "overrated" Eagles team just keeps chugging along with a W over Lee. Next up is Horn.

Eagle2
10-18-2010, 12:59 PM
Way to go Eagles' Varsity on their victory over the Lee Red Raiders 42-28 as well as to the JV and Frosh teams as well.

Victories will not come easy for the Eagles as the 0-6 Red Raiders made it close with a 14-14 first half tie. As has been done all season the Eagles manage to make adjustments and find a way to make a needed stop to get the offense going and pull out a victory.

It does not get any easier for the Eagles this week, as they go into Jaguar territory to face a Mesquite Horn team that is good and talented with athletes that lost to Longview last week 8-13. Horn will be ready to upset and slow down the Eagles. The Eagles will also be expecting and ready for the Jaguars.:)

However "overrated" it remains a "W" in the win column. At this point of the season how many teams would like to have a "W"? I'll take it.

No doubt. Just repeating what I have been told by everyone. DeSoto is overrated, yet they're still winning. I'll take "overrated" with a W all day.

Fify. :D

I think EagleMom posted some details about a charter bus being available in the game thread. I know that a good number of DeSoto people supported Cedar Hill after they eliminated us during their run, but I don't expect our neighbors to return the favor with the games generally being so far away. If the games were in DFW we'd be looking at much better turnout (I know, duh) from DeSoto fans and surrounding fans. I have only been in the Metroplex ONE week the entire football season (last week, which I spent at Cowboys stadium for the Abilene/SLC and Cooper/Guyer games) due to being in school but I will be back in time for championship weekend. Lets hope that I will be able to catch my first DeSoto game of the year at Cowboys stadium!

And the long offseason begins...

Being away from DeSoto most of the year, I'm not familiar with the JV or second team, so I'll resist saying that we won't have a team as talented as this one for awhile. I said that after we lost to Cedar Hill in the regional finals and Cyrus graduated, then a couple years later here we are in the finals again. So I hope that we can reload and finally break through with the next class.

Booster club members, parents and supporters of the Desoto High School football program,
Thank you for your continued support of our young athletes! This past year with your assistance, we accomplished a lot including a record number of football scholarships awarded, a record number of football academic all Americans, three televised games, participation in the Under Armor nationally televised game and many other honors for our football program. This coming year promises to be even more successful as we participate in a district that has been realigned. As usual, we will need your unwavering support as the Desoto Eagles soar into even greater heights for the 2012-13 season!
I also wanted convey how happy I am to be back at Desoto High School. As you know in January, I was challenged with some tough decisions that I had to make quickly relating to my future and for the benefit of my family. I left Desoto in haste and deeply apologize for any hurt feelings or undue stress on the players, parents and supporters. I’m back now and more committed and determined than ever to ensure that Desoto High School’s football program is the finest in the country. Desoto athletes are groomed for greatness as evidenced by the numbers who go on to accomplish great things beyond their high school careers. I appreciate your kind words, positive energy and commitment to that end. I am expecting His “Unprecedented Favor” for the coming year!
Sincerely,

Claude Mathis, Head Coach
Desoto High School Football

DeSoto’s Claude Mathis a finalist for National Coach of the Year

DeSoto football coach Claude Mathis is among the six finalists for the 2013 Xenith National Coach of the Year Award, as selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee.
The Coach of the Year will be announced during the U.S. Army All-American Awards Dinner on Jan. 4 in San Antonio.
Mathis has led DeSoto to a 13-0 record and national No. 1 rankings from Rivals.com and MaxPreps’ Freeman computer rankings, thanks to impressive playoff wins over Coppell and Arlington Bowie. DeSoto faces Southlake Carroll (12-1) at 2 Saturday at SMU’s Ford Stadium in the Class 5A Division I Region I final.
More background from my colleague, Corbett Smith:
In five seasons at DeSoto, Mathis is 47-16, with his teams advancing to at least the second round of the playoffs each season. Mathis left DeSoto in January to join Tony Levine’s new staff at the University of Houston as running backs coach, but reversed course and withdrew his resignation.

The six National Coach of the Year Award Finalists:
Claude Mathis, DeSoto High School
J.T. Curtis, Curtis High School (River Ridge, La.)
Butch Goncharoff, Bellevue High School (Bellevue, Wash.)
Brian Hales, Butler High School (Matthews, NC)
Mike Jinks, Steele High School (Cibolo, Texas)
Joe Kinnan, Manatee High Schol (Bradenton, Fla.)

I look forward to the game this Saturday! I just hope the eventual winner comes out of this game healthy. Deep down I think the winner should be the odds on favorite to win State. I have seen Desoto's team and they look great. I know what our boys are capable of and hope they are at their best this week. I will tip my cap to Desoto if they win. I also hope that Wilson is a 100%, I heard he got knicked up last week. Oregon will be getting a great player. If White was bigger, no doubt in my mind he would be getting looks from the big boys. Anyways see yall Saturday.
