I was listening to the Dan Patrick radio show just a minute ago and he and Keith Olbermann were ranting about the stupidity of the Wonderlic. Their main reason was because of the absurdity of some of the questions it ask. Questions that have no right or wrong answer. The example they used was this actual Wonderlic question...
After you use the bathroom, do you look?
How f'n stupid is that question?
Here are some more actual Wonderlic questions for you to ponder...
I find my personality to be very hyper and intense.
A. Yes
B. No
C. Sometimes
Most people can be two faced.
A. Yes
B. No
C. Sometimes
Have you ever eaten a turnip?
A. Yes
B. No
C. Not sure
Would you ever sing in a choir?
A. Yes
B. No
C. Maybe
Can somebody please explain to me what the f' these questions have to do with anything and why there are some people out there still trying to pass this stupid test off as some kind of measuring stick for one's intelligence? It's absurd. Patrick was commenting on how the NY Giants managment is trying to get rid of this test because it is "useless". I can see why they think that now.

Try this one from the 1999 Wonderlic:
Which one of the following does not belong:
A) Australia
B) Antarctica
C) Eurasia
D) South America
E) Madagascar

They are spinning just like everyone else does... There are hundreds of Wonderlic tests to measure or evaluate all kinds of things... The questions you show examples of is probably from a personality evaluating test... Since there are no right or wrong answers on these tests, this wasn't the one that's been reported on...

E) MadagascarEurasia - my guess because its the only one not completely surrounded by water? (Assuming the Panama Canal counts...) I'm probably wrong, but I'm still proud of my reasoning... It could be "South America" because its the only one with a two word name... It could be Madagascar because its the only one that DOESN'T end in "A"

The question Dan Patrick mentioned was a question from the '01 NFL Wonderlic I believe. The questions I listed were all taken from various NFL Wonderlics including the Turnip questions which was on one of the '04 Wonderlics.

That's a good guess, and arguably correct, but that's not the answer. I'll let y'all have a few more cracks at it before I give the "correct" answer.

My guess would be Madagascar since it's the only one that isn't a continent or a combination of continents (Eurasia).

My guess would be Madagascar since it's the only one that isn't a continent or a combination of continents (Eurasia).
That was also my answer, and probably the most 'intelligent' and logical answer to this question, but it is also wrong.
In other countries, they actually teach 5 and 6 continent models versus our traditional acceptance of the 7 continents. Often, the Americas are considered one continent, as is Europe and Asia.
But, according, to the '99 Wonderlic, Madagascar is not the right answer to this question.

There is just one 50 question test. It is not divided or anything. The point is that the possibility exist that a player could get a test that has questions with no right or wrong answers.

My bad, StrakeDrake...I only saw your post before you edited it.
Yes...
Believe it or not, the answer is South America, because it is the only one that is two words.
...and this is supposed to measure intelligence...

Not knowing the answer beforehand...I would guess Antarctica since it is the only one of the above not populated.
However, I'd probably think Eurasia is the answer afterwards since we never refer to the region formally by that name any more.

There's a difference in intelligence and knowledge... Every one of our first stabs were based on knowledge, experience, and learning... The correct answer is correct because it doesn't require any knowledge of those places, only the intelligence to see the obvious difference...

Wouldn't it take intelligence to reason that although most people don't refer to Eurasia as a single continent that, in the context of this question, it would be the most logical answer?
Also, what is most obvious to the eye isn't always the most intelligent.
Although you may see rolled up corners and deep safeties, the most obvious conclusion would be that it's Cover 2, when in reality, one of those corners is going to blitz and the other DB's will roll their coverage to Cover 3. Knowing that a defense has a tendency to do just that in certain situations requires intelligence to read it initially for what it is, rather that what it appears.

I make a living dealing with these types of tests. Usually these tests are designed to evaluate problem solving, emotional stability, social style, work ethic, and attention to detail. The reason they are to be taken in such a short period of time is to get gut answers instead of contemplated ones... We pointed out 3 different answers that could be correct on KTChamps sample question... Have you considered that perhaps there is no wrong answer to the question and that testers can make determinations about you based on the route you took on it?
Regardless, the NFL needs some way to take the results and RATE the test taker, so a scoring model has been formulated, probably using criteria set up by NFL player personnel execs... What I mean is, a players answers might not be incorrect but still may reveal that he has poor work ethic, so the NFL has instructed Wonderlic to deduct points from that player ... Kind of like a credit score... I'm not explaining this well, but you see what I mean?

You could put Einstein in at QB, and without any experience or learning he'd probably suck...

Which proves exactly why the Wonderlic is useless for the NFL. :D
Also, couldn't intelligence be described as the ability to correctly apply knowledge and experience?

Which proves exactly why the Wonderlic is useless for the NFL. :DLOL... But jtk has brought this into a new light... Apparently, from the examples he's shown, the test thats being given is measuring much more than intelligence... If thats the case then perhaps VY isn't testing out well for some OTHER reason than his reasoning?

I agree with you guys - and, again, I only brought it up initially based on my concern that these guys start getting picky and dopey -- and we all know theres a "slider" or two in every draft - last year it was Aaron Rogers from Cal. VY is a complex draft pick - but certainly in my mind a top 4 pick. If he slides to 10 or below - he'll use that fuel for years as motivation - not a bad thing.
We can all agree that these draft experts are a dime a dozen. Theismann says VY is great and forget the test; Peter King says VY is dropping like a rock. The trendy thing is to knock Vince this week - who knows about next week.
One last thing - hate to say this - but I think race plays an issue. There are still some that don't won't the "athletic" qb - read between the lines - I think it exists.

Wonderlic is totally useless? Again, what if VINCE had scored above a 20? The Katie's, who are in the "refuse to accept anything bad about VINCE" camp, would be touting his score. I have a novel idea, why don't you wait until he's drafted and plays before any more pronouncements? And, Katies, please stop dissecting the varous formations, etc., as if you're trying out for John Madden's assistant.

jtk...
I've taken the real Wunderlic several times for jobs (with a high of 36 :) ), and that question from your first post wasn't on there. Now...I've taken other stupid personality tests for jobs, and questions like that were on there. I can't remember the name of that test that asks those questions, but it's gay. On the Wunderlic, there are right/wrong answers.

The Wonderlich offers different test based on the job and supposedly, different test for every player. In fact, supposedly, of the 300+ tests given to the players at the combine, every single test was different from the other meaning the questions you get would differ from what the guy just ahead of you got.
