Oh my... I started watching Cheers again... and it brings back great memories of my young adulthood.
I am reminiscing about the eighties when I live in the CENTEX! I lived in Killeen from 1985 to 1990 as a young single guy. Not much to do in Killeen back then except drink. I went to a place called O’Phelans. We called it O’s. I walked into this place 4-5 times a week and was greeted by the bartender, a travel agent in a 3 piece suite, and a blue collar Irish guy. I felt like Norm on Cheers. The bartender was a great guy… though an alcoholic I think. I was always drinking shots of rumplemintz with him. I will always cherish this time in my life. Not only because of O’Phelans, though I love those memories, but my grandmother was alive and always had great food ready when I rolled into my home town back then in South Texas.
But back to my point… do you have a current bar or dive you frequent, or do you have memories of a place you hold dear?
Unfortunately for me, O’Phelans is no longer there. I went back to Killeen on assignment a few months back, and it was gone.

The Chilis bars in Stephenville and Mineral Wells. I know everyone there. I used to work in the Stephenville one and my girlfriend works in the Mineral Wells one. Needless to say we always get great service and a few of the bartenders are my friends outside of the bar too. Even after a few mishaps when I have had a few to much they still call me asking me to come by and visit them at work :D

In college it was J. Patrick O'Malleys. Very fun place right across from campus. They had decent food too. We called it J Pats.
We would be there a few times a week. Good friends good times.

We may have set next to each other...I was there at that time and use to go in often. Lunch was always spent at Buds Gun Shop though...:D
