It'll be tough, considering they play 12 games. They'll shock some people, but for the most part they'll beat who they're supposed to beat and lose to who they're supposed to lose to.
Clemson (Elite talent that returns 12) - loss
Rice (Returns 13, but RB-McGuffie and QB-Cook will be huge) - loss
Army (Returns 14 to a solid team that beat UNT in 2009) - loss
Florida Atlantic (Returns 10, but lost nearly entire offense) - win
ULL (Returns 12, including QB and 11 starting seniors) - loss
Arkansas State (Returns 10, but lost all impact players) - win
FIU (Returns 7 from a 3-9 team) - win
Western Kentucky (Who cares how many returns? They went 0-12!) - win
Troy (Returns 9, but always reloads) - loss
MTSU (Returns 13, including SB POTY, QB-Dasher) - loss
ULM (Returns a potent offense that beat UNT, 33-6) - loss
Kansas State (Returns 10, including RB-Thomas and HC-Snyder) - loss
I see UNT going 4-8... and (don't look now) Dodge going back to SLC! Dodge, obviously, can't compete in recruiting w/ OU, TCU, and SMU for DFW athletes. My suggestion is that they go back down a level. I said, in 2008, that Dodge needed about 4 or 5 years. He's going into his 4th year. I think he understands, now, how much recruiting is key... and how much he sucks at it.

Folks, I'm telling you, Dodge has bigger ambitions. If he leaves UNT, expect him to go on as a WR coach, a QB coach, or something along those lines at the college level. I don't expect to see him back in the high school ranks for a while if ever.

I agree with you on him having bigger ambitions, but where would he really go? And why would he go from HC at an FBS program to a WR coach at.. (for example) Tulsa or ULL? Truth of the matter is... he should've been given a coaching spot at a place like Mississippi State or Auburn or Arizona State. He's likely in a no-win situation at UNT! Going back to SLC isn't all that bad, depending on what options are available.

He probably should have followed a path similar to Gus Malzhan (Auburn OC). Become an OC first, have some success, etc. Then been in line for a pretty good HC job.

Given his ambitions, Dodge would probably not be back for that long at SLC. With that as a consideration, why would it be advantageous to Carroll to bring him back? He is young enough to have lots of other options.
His decision I believe had something to do with family. He could stay close to his son playing in school, and not disrupt the rest of his family as they finished. If TCU/SMU/Baylor/UofH didn't have resurgent programs, he might have been able to recruit better. A lot of 'if's'.
I wish him the best, but don't see it happening.

Nope. And maybe they will get smart and fire Todd Dodge as coach. Then they can go get a real college football coach that can coach defense.

winning record or dodge is gone.
the only question mark for the offense is the QB situation. i think either tune or thompson are capable of putting up solid to good numbers but i don't think a starter has been named. both did well in the spring game. the OL is probably going to be the best in the sun belt, dunbar is a beast, and the WR's should be good. the defense? well...let's hope the O can consistently put up 40-50+ a game. :D

He better win. Or us students will be carrying signs that say "Fire Dodge" and "Learn to play defense" to the games.

Way more than that. Upwards of 1000. Most of the side where the band sits is usually full of students. It would be less if we didn't get into the game for free.

That would be nice but I don't see it happening. I really would like to see it happen though because I really want to go to New Orleans.

It's more possible they go 12-0 than 5-5!:D
Bigger question is this.......
UNT has a new stadium opening in a little over a year......
Absent the wins from the past, the program is definitely on a more stable foundation on the inside.......
May be an even greater risk to open the new house with an entirely new brand at the same time?
Safe bet says the AD will stick with TD to open the "GreenHouse", and if the product on the field isn't filing the seats.........

Completely agree, I thought that when he took the job.
I think 5-5 is a stretch for them this year.

Bold prediction: Lance Dunbar starts to make a name for himself on a national level as he outshines McGuffie in a shoot-out win over Rice.
And on UNT, I really think the offense will turn the corner this year with Coach Canales leading the way. He had great success at South Florida and is a big reason for their quick ascent in the college football landscape. If Nathan Tune or Derek Thompson can manage the offense without turning the ball over, something Riley could not do last year, then UNT should have a top 3 offense in the Sun Belt.
UNT's defense will still be suspect this year, but I expect them to hold opponents below 30 pts per game (a vast improvement from the past couple years).
Last years team was better than their 2-10 record, as they lost six games by seven points or less. I don't see that happening again this fall.
