Be very careful- Some of those houses are armed with bottle rockets to shoot at the boats. :D
Have fun and be safe on the lake. We are usually out there. Not sure why we are not this year.
I'll be in a church van starting at 8:30 tomorrow AM and most of the day Sunday going to Kentucky for a youth mission trip.
Have no idea if we'll see any fireworks. THought about bringing some, but I think I signed something that said I wouldn't bring any and don't want them to call my mom.

Safe travels and enjoy the time. I bet you all can find some fireworks wherever you are Sunday night.
Or send you home at your mom's expense. ;)

It's going to be a real quite week end for us. Kids are spread out everywhere and we are resting for a huge family re-union across from Schultz Garden in Austin next week end...

Most people I know are just kind of taking it easy this year. No huge plans- keeping it simple.
We have been running since school let out and I am ready for just some quiet time.
Enjoy your family reunion. Great times.

Good old fashioned small town 4th with family, hot dogs and hamburgers for the evening, party at the town square and go through the museum to view all the things collected over the years, then fireworks at the baseball field in town.

Nuthin' this year. It's supposed to rain down here for the next 7 days which will put a damper on fireworks plus it's hard to BBQ in the rain(Hello Nonmaucher's). No one is going to the beach house. It will be quiet around here except for my 2 yr old grand daughter.

Of course I misspelled it. :o
Nonmacher's
Their brisket, ribs and beans have always been good. Best around here since Dozier's in Fulshear sold their place.

All my kids and friends just pulled out to go to Amistad and watch the rain rather than stay here and watch the rain, Odessa is soaked but I bet Del Rio is worse.

My wife has a cousin who always hosts about 15 family members for a day of food, family, and fireworks out in the country at her double wide.
This year her son is marrying a "New Yawk" girl that nobody has met yet, only seen on Facebook.
About 100 people have been invited (prolly 50 will show up) and the funeral....ur...uh...wedding will be Sunday afternoon after the food and before the fireworks.
I know this bunch and it should be a redneck fest.
I'm going to get there early, 8 AM, so I can get a seat at the main table, get my sweet tea and ice ready, and get a ringside seat to what promises to be a day of purely magical observation of the human condition.
I do expect to be thoroughy entertained...even moreso than when I can get a rise out of the YDB's here...:D
BTW, it will hopefully kick off a magical week of vacation and harrassment of the board....I'm looking forward to next week, boys and girls....8 days out of the heat and bringing some here, in kind.....:heli:

I got an early start on the 4th (Now, the 5th), but I went whitewater rafting and it was great. It was Class II and III rapids and we got plenty wet!:D That's not bad for a deployment. I'm still planning on doing some more hiking.

wow !!!! just got in from the fireworks at Lake Grapevine. We put the boat in around 3 and just took it out. You could see the Flower Mound fireworks across the dam, the Gaylord fireworks on the south end of the dam, the Las Colinas/Irving fireworks, and the right in your face Grapevine fireworks. IT WAS AWESOME !!!!
Now, I do not usually go out on holiday weekends. But I did today. What I saw was incredible. The cultural diversity was overwhelming. Not only Latinos and Anglos, but Middle East descent, African descent, and any other immigrant nationality that you can think of. I never knew that there are sexy looking headscarfs. But there are. amazed. There must have been 1000 people on the one beach area that we settled on. I tied up the boat and we talked and laughed for a good 6 hours. Everyone got real excited around 9 and with what looked like the Spanish armada anchored in front of us, there was an electricity in the air. The weather couldn't have been any better with cloud cover and breeze to keep the temp down. We took the boat and went to the ramp, loaded the boat, turned off the truck and sit there and watched the fireworks. After the finale, we pulled up the ramp, out of the park, and were home within 15 minutes. I love it when a plan comes together. Now an iced cold beer to end the day.
God bless America !!!

it was a great day and evening. My house is still sleeping. Rare for us, as there is usually workouts or activities to be at. Gonna' be a recharge kind of day. :D

We have done the Grapevine ones on the lake several times and it is something to see. Especially sitting out in the middle of the lake looking up. I like that one the best.

And it was a great one. We usually see it from the shore as well but three years we went out. Didn't get home until midnight but it is worth it to do it at least once. We knew several other boaters and all got together in our own area.
Had the usual. At least, the usual for me for the last Twenty years!!! I can't believe I just typed that.
We Live in a small town. The parade comes right by our house. SO, we have lots of people we invite out, and others we don't, hang out in our yard for the parade. Then, it's an afternoon of BSin, eating grilled Hamburgers and Hot Dogs with all that stuff. Can walk about a half block to the City park, and visit with folks there, or, head down to the river for some swimmin. OR, shoot fireworks. Or eat and drink some more.
OR, in my case, watch the NASCAr race on that night!!
Now, since all that came a day early this year (this celebration will NOT be held on Sunday), for the actual 4th, I did NOTHING.

Follow-up:
Great day....got there at 10AM and got the most prime seat at the table....the one where you can see the whole action in the kitchen and living room. Got ahold of cuz' laptop and played on it all day while working in watching the drama and the endless parade of half-clothed redneck females and the overabundance of silicone/saline funbags.
Note: (I'm not related to any of these women, they are all distant relatives or friends of Mrs. GoOwls cousin....I was within the boundries of regulation window shopping)
Further Note: (Mrs. GoOwls is a cool as it gets....she is comfortable with our relationship....she knows I'm a shopper and not a popper....she was pointing them out for me most of the day.....like a wingman with benefits...)
Topping the list was the New Yawk bride in question.....about 5'6", hispanic, about 120 lbs, well toned from working out, tanned, and sporting at least DD's on that frame......way too stout and unmoving....like they were plastic and molded on.....looked freakishly unnatural.....for the first 20 minutes or so you can't take your eyes off her, then you begin to see the faults and the New Yawk attitude, and she becomes less attractive as the minutes pass.
After a while, she was just another misshapen, misaligned, misproportioned freak in a room of freaks that ended up being not as freaky as her. As the evening wore on, I began to realize that the regular girls were actually the most attractive women there, and the misshapen freaks were the high maintainence objects of our desire that really don't deserve to rate it.
Overall, I got a bunch of new respect for my all-natural wife....like I needed to respect her any more....her head is already as big as a house... ;)
