Our churches High School chior has been in New Orleans this last week for a mission/choir tour. Last night they were singing in the French Quarter and singing Lenny Kravitz's song I'll Fly Away. He was in the area and came and joined them. The kids are on top of the world and have not calmed down.

I'm friends with a few of the people that went on that trip, they were so crazy excited it was almost funny! I'm real happy for them, I bet it was insanely cool. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

They just got back this evening and I don't think any of them have slept. LOL

I was in San Antonio last night with our middle school choir and right after dinner all of the adults cell phones started going off. We were getting updates and vidieos.

The kid whose drums Lenny played on is walking on cloud 9 and I think he is going to frame his sticks.

Doubt it. Granted some of his songs are not "church" songs but as a musician he is great and what he did last night with those kids is special.

And you never know, maybe they touched him as well. ;)

I may not be a huge Lenny Kravitz fan but he just jumped 10 points in my book. Thats really awesome for those kids and says a lot about his character as well.

Agree. He was not on my top favorites list but he is now. That was just a really cool thing to do.

I have some of his CDs. I do like his music quite a bit, even if he has always seemed flaky to me.

It's also a trip to me that his mom was Roxie Roker( the one married to the white dude, Tom,) on the Jeffersons.

It would be awesome if he has something on his heart driving him to use his talents to make an impact on kids and others like this story.

I never knew that was his mom.

He put it on his twitter account and I hope he does something like this again. It was a great thing he did and totally spontaneous. That is what makes it special. He was there, they were there and it just worked.

It did make it to the news. The kids did their home concert last night and are still just floating.

They said what happened is that they opened each concert with Fly Away. They were warming up and apparently Lenny was near by. He heard them playing his song and he and his friend came over and asked if he could play with them. The director said, "sure do you want to play guitar?" and Lenny said "no, that guy is smoking on the guitar, I'll play the drums."

Our kids finished warming up and then it all happened.
